((Yes, it is true, but what about the sentence "Tel popped underground for a moment and then popped back out as..." signals that he's still underground? ^^ It's okay. Simple mistake if you weren't reading carefully enough.
Annnd the random number generator gives you: magnitude 4))
The two waves of power met between the tow pokemon with a crash, and cracking of the rocky floor. Tel whistled as the rocks literally ripped themselves apart in a perfect line of demarcation. He scooted back a bit through the rock, in case the wave was going to carry back on him. However his magnitude had been stronger. The ripples continued toward Benny, but their power was halved.
Tel grinned to himself as he heard Matt smack his head, and mutter about redecoration costs.
((Since magnitude 4 would cancels out 4 powers of a magnitude 8, Benny would be getting hit with a magnitude 4))

Benny gets hit by the magnitude attack head on, and gets knocked back a little bit, but retaliates with a water gun. "Uhh, sorry about the gym," Rain says appologeticaly. Not like I meant to do that, she thinks.

"Dive, Magnitude," Matthew stated simply, not really paying attention. He figured Tel would be able to handle a water gun (he was faster than Doe, after all, and hadn't lost the use of a limb due to water paralysis). Inside, he was thinking more of how much money he'd have to fork over to the gym repair company this time.
Meanwhile, his diglett burrowed down quickly, missing the brunt of the water and only catching the part that dropped in after him. He leveled his tunnel out as quickly as he could, diverting the falling water to the soft ground below him. He then burrowed over to the side of the arena, where there wasn't quite so much hard rock, and released a Magnitude. ((Number generator gets you Magnitude 10...sorry...@_@))
This one was even more powerful than the first, and Matthew actually had to work on balancing himself for a moment, not just his budget. Then he rolled his eyes in dismay when, just as Tel popped back up, a stalagmite fell just centimeters away from the little mole.
"<That was...close,>" Tel remarked, grinning sheepishly at his trainer.
"Make sure it falls on the fish next time," Matthew growled.

Benny took that quick moment of distraction to launch a water gun attack. The Magnitude hits, knocking him down, and he just barely manages to stand back up. Alright, I gotta think, there has to be something to make this battle go by faster, Rain thinks.

((These attles are supposed to be about a page per pokemon that the gym leader has. Nyaa slapped me around for making Doe faint so early on in the game. Despite the fact that water gun pwns geodude... Oh, and how does a barboach stand? ^^ Where's it's legs.)) "Tel, behind yo-- The diglett's bullet head pitched forward slightly as the watergun hit it, and he then disappeared under the ground, and the jet of water continued to hit the sand, creating a gloopy mud. <You know, Boss, that really stung,> Tel muttered, his voice subterraneanly muffled. "Get back up here!" Matthew ordered, knowing that he was going to have to tone down the attacks a little bit if he wanted to keep his gym in one piece. Good thing Tel was near the sandy walls, anyway. The diglett popped out of his hole, just as Matt yelled: "Sand Attack!" Tel zoomed into the sandy wall creating a shower of loose grit with mud blobs that flew towards Benny in a Sand/Mud Shot Attack.

At the same time, Benny used a Magnitude attack on the Diglett. The attack hits him straight on, blocking his view for a moment, if you want to attack, probably now is a good time. Now it all depends on what he does next... Rain thinks.

Matt just smirked. This attack, although it stunk in gym repairs would be easy enough to counter. Besides, it was getting harder and harder for the magnitude to get through the already broken rocks and stones, because there was no resistance to give the shockwaves any power.
"Tel, magnitude!"
<You said it, Boss,> Tel slammed into the earth as Benny's shockwave rolled toward him, and two small waves pushed outward from the mole pokemon. However, the two waves, when they did meet, barely cracked the floor, and Benny's attack surged over Tel's pushing through as barely a ripple in the ground.
"Back up to totally minimize damage!" Matthew yelled.
Tel zoomed backwards, using his impressive digglett speed. Benny's magnitude hit him half way toward Matthew, but the weak attack barely had any effect on the ground type.
((Number gen gave you a mag. 3, and Tel a mag. 2, and put together Tel got hit by a magnitude 1. More like .5 since he moved.))

That was what Benny was waiting for. While the Diglett was moving, he attacks him with another water gun attack.
Rain on the other hand is thinking calmly, trying not to show any signs of frustration as she plans her next move.

((Um, Water gun would probably have been more effective while Tel was standing still...))
Tel was a fast moving, er, digging machine. The water gun, although it followed him for several yards, only grazed him. He swiveled around when he came to the far wall, and glared at Benny in annoyance. <Coward. Attacking when a man's back is turned. How low. Well, take this!>
He chugged through the crumbling rock until he was at the half way point between Ruin and Matthew, only feet away from Benny, inside the blasted zone of rock and crushed debris. Tel slammed down on the ground in a fury, blast waves of rubble radiating out from him, deadlier at close range.
((Sadly, the number generator gave you a 9.))

"Benny, Magnitude!" Rain commands, and crosses her fingers. I wish I had something that wasn't so random, she thinks.
(*crosses fingers* The Random Number Generator has been hating me.)

((It don't hate you at the moment. You got a magnitude 8. Although this is going to be a looooong battle if we keep pounding one another with magnitude ones... >.> You know, Benny and Tel are really too evenly matched. Do you have another pokemon that might work for a quicker end to this? I mean, you've still got his rhyhorn to go, too.))
The massive magnitudes blasted into one another, and sandstone fountained into the air, hitting both Tel and Benny indiscriminately. Matthew cringed, the costs of this battle were going to be staggering. The gym rumbled and shook, the stalactites dropping from the ceiling to hit the floor, barboach, diglett, and both humans, as Matthew dived back from exploding rock shrapnel.
The rumbling decreased, and the dust settled to show piles of rock and rubble. Although it was hard to see over the now lumpy remains of the floor, Matthew thought that he could still see the barboach, and it appeared to be alive and wriggling. Of Tel there was no sight, until the ground shook behind Benny and the diglett popped out in a shower of earth, running forward to scratch the mud eel's side. <And this is for attacking me from behind!> the diglett cried, scratching Benny with his massive digging claws.
((I dunno how diglett perform scratch attack, really, but since they are moles they must have massive digging claws some where.))

(To be honest, I don't know either. Whether I switch or not will depend on the result of this attack.)
Benny, having felt the rumbling, managed to twist around just in time to use a water gun as he gets hit by the scratch attack. "All's fair in love, war, and pokemon battles," Rain says with a shrug. I'm taking a chance here by doing close combat, and this gym isn't exactly looking very good, Rachel's going to kill me if she has to pay for it, Rain thinks.

Tel, however, darted back underground as soon as he felt the first wash of water. Digging a little way back and to the side, he erupted from the earth. <This is so personal. You're going down you little fishy!>
He stamped underground again, and a huge wave of loose earth and soil spurted up to engulf Benny.
((Magnitude 6))

"Benny, Magnitude!" Rain commands, and Benny releases his own attack. Okay, if Benny doesn't fare much better, I'll switch to Lynn, she's still got the advantage, Rain thinks.

((Righty Ho. Now, how on earth does a barboach riding in a swell of dirt make a magnitude... Hmm. Well, here goes nothing in the descriptive writing circles.))
As the ripples of loose stone and earth closed around Benny his own waves of magnitude blasted out, decimating all but the top layer of soil which cascaded over his body.
Matthew, his face set in a grim scowl, yelled: "Scratch, Tel!"
<Aye, aye, captain!> Tel saluted Mathew jokingly, and then plowed through the broken rock to slash at the buried barboach with his claws.

Only to find nothing there. In the split second before Benny was buried under the rubble, Rain had recalled him to let out her Lombre Lynn. "Not a bad tactic, I'll give you that, so what'll it be next, Matthew?" Rain asks.
