Fog Path:Fog Path is a seaside footpath along the coastal cliffs in the south. Fog Path goes along the south coast of the island, taking you from Coast Village (on the southwest corner of the island) east towards the beach house settlement closer to the eastern edge of the island. The school boat will pull up on the fog shrouded beach near the Rope elevators. This beach is a pebble, and barnacle encrusted strand, without much sand, although a lot of seaweed is strewn around the beach. You'd better be wearing shoes. Other than the pebbles and barnacles, the standard ground cover is seaside moss, small plants such as pickleweed, and bare (wet) rock. You're stuck between the cliff and the sea on a long strip of land. There are salt water rock pools to be found, and there are plenty of pokemon along the strand. Pokemon:Several wingull, who fly down from the top of the cliff, but there are a lot of shore pokemon around, mainly small grass-types and water-types. There are a few scattered flying types as well. The level range is 3 - 15. Common: (50% of the time) Krabby (1 - 25) Shellder (26 - 50) Uncommon: (40% of the time) Paras (51 - 60) Seedot (61 - 70) Wingull (71 - 80) Tenatcool (81 - 90) (These can be found washed up on the beach) Rare: (6% of the time) Spearow (91 - 96) Super Rare: (4% of the time) Scarmory (97, 98) Zubat (99, 100) ~ ~ ~ Rock PoolsHere you can find a few more fishies washed in on the tide and the occasional hungry bird. Common (60%) Shellder (1 - 12) Krabby (13 - 24) Staryu (25 - 36) Corsola (37 - 48) Tentacool (49 - 60) Uncommon (40%) Wingull (61 - 80) Paras (81 - 100)

The boat anchored in the shallows as the early morning fog roiled. Professor Vervain, in a yellow slicker, seemed to be satisfied. Pulling out the little metal tackle box he trudged over to the hatch leading to the cabins. After having been woken up at three in the morning to be hustled onto the boat, most students had tried to catch some shut eye in the small bunks.
"Right, everyone, out of bed. C'mon, move it. You've all got your pokeballs, and we're only lightly beached with the anchor holding us steady. Get up, climb down the rope ladder and into the dinghy. You'll make it to dry land. Get up!"
Fifteen minutes later he had sculled over to the coast line in the life boat, and swum back to the school's ship. He happily baited his hook, and sat back. He loved to get the fish at their dawn feeding time, and he had sent Zirica to keep an invisible eye on the kiddies.
~ ~ ~
Okay, just as a reminder -
If you choose to capture a pokemon here you will be graded on: - Throwing Ability - Battling Ability - overall Attitude
If you miss the pokemon with a pokeball that's minus five points for every miss (only 20 points may be deducted in this way).
If your battle comes apart because you can't control your pokemon, that is automatically minus twenty points. You've had your pokemon for two whole days now, you should know how far you can push your loaner.
If the pokemon manges to free itself from the pokeball then that is minus five points from the catching score, and minus five from the battle score.
If you throw a nutty because of conditions or complain incessantly that is minus ten points.
When you have caught your starter you may battle with it or lounge around and talk to others until the thread is locked.
When the thread is locked your character needs to drop off a paragraph about why they choose to capture the pokemon they did manage to get. OR, if you chose not to capture a pokemon from Fog Path, please state the reasons.

Sophie groaned... She wasn't a morning person, but that didn't stop her. And she had to give a good attitude if she ever hoped of passing this class and moving onto breeder. And co-odinator. So she slapped herself angrily said, "Owwww," then got out of bed. She changed into suitable clothing for the Field Trip, grabbed the stuff she needed and went outside.
She was wearing navy blue tracksuits, a warm sweater(Sp?) and underneath a warm long-sleeved top saying 'Pokemon Breeder in training. DO NOT DISTURB!!!'. She was wearing old but comfortable and fitting white trainers with grub-marks on.
She climbed down the ladder, while holding her stuff (she didn't bring her notebook), jumped into the dinghy... Oh she was soooooo excited! She'd recited and practiced all the things she'd written down and she still remembers them. But she was a bit worried she'd go all wrong... But then Sophie shoved that to the back of her head. She wanted to go catch some pokemon now! Then Sophie started wondering, for a bit, what pokemon would be out there. Such excitement!

<Come on, up, up.> Bear sat on Carolyn's chest and poked her in the face, only hopping down when she sat up sleepily and yawned. Like many of the other students, most likely, she was not a morning person, but rather than get grumpy she simply stayed half-asleep.
Which was the reason she had already dressed for the day, before they had loaded onto the ship in the first place. It was, perhaps, a bit light clothing for such weather, but the weather couldn't be any worse than it had been on winter days at the beach in Fucshia, so the pair of brown cargo pants and red sweatshirt should be plenty to keep her warm.
"Up...up...into pokeball, Bear..." Yawning again she returned the jigglypuff to his pokeball and trudged out onto the little lifeboat. She was the second into the boat, and despite still thinking about going back to sleep, she smiled at Sophie.
By the time they had reached the coast, she had succeeded in waking up-in part to the fact that the morning air had turned her nose a bit red, but mostly because she'd remembered that this was a test.
She'd read the paper at the school, and so was prepared for the likely pokemon she would run into. And one of her favorite-of course, it was only her favorite because she was somewhat used to it, and she thought it was cute-was tentacool.
And there might be some to be found, if she walked up and down the beach. The best part was that they might already be weakened from laying up on the beach in the first place. All she had to do was find them, weaken them enough to capture, and poof. She passed the test.
Of course, knowing her, she probably wouldn't find one, or she'd find one that would be too strong for Bear, Bear would be knocked unconscious, she'd get lost, by the time she finally got back to the coast where the dinghy was at she'd have outrun a ton of scarmory, zubat, and spearow since they were rare and she wouldn't run into them if she had the oppurtunity of catching them, or she'd find a million tentacool she could have captured, when she finally got to the ship to heal Bear, it'd be time to leave, and she'd fail the test.
Odd, what ran through an anxious teenager's mind.

((So, we can understand our pokemon here, and the wild pokemon? Just considering where it is I was confused. )) Elroy, somehow having fallen asleep in the cramped and musty cabin, awoke with quite a shock. Professor Vervain's voice seemed to fill the cabin, and threatened to cause a spill for then teen. Vivian miraculously supporting his rolling mass, pushing him back toward the wall. The snubull had been out of her pokeball for the 'nap', eyes totally open, guarding rather than cuddling. It was times like this Elroy wanted a...snubull. Lucky him he got a little pink soldier. Sitting up with an exaggerated sigh, Elroy ran his fingers through a messed, fiery head of hair, lowering his hand to wipe the sleep from his eyes. He might not have been given a lot of time to sleep, but he was out the entire time allotted. Smiling down weakly at his miniature guardian, Elroy swung his legs over the side of the bed. Joy written across his face, the Level One rose to his feet, looking around the small cabin. Two of the beds were unoccupied, but the rest still snoozed away on those corpse-filled body bags passed off as mattresses. Chuckling hollowly to himself, Elroy snatched Vivian's pokeball from his light blue belt. "See yoo een ay while, Vivianne.", Elroy whispered, the Normal-type nodding its reply. Swallowed in a beam of light whose color paled in comparison to the teen's hair, the snubull was gone. Inspecting his dress, Elroy was pleased. He had been one of the few dressed before the trip to the boat, ever prepared. Clad in and old pair of blue pants, a light blue, short-sleeved shirt, and a thin blazer to match his pants, Elroy exited the cabin. Fidgeting with his beret momentarily, the teen, climbed the ladder down into the dinghy. Eet shood bee colled ay dingee.Unlike Sophie, Elroy had come with a small notebook and pen, for use documenting the various pokemon. Sure, he had a good idea of what there would be, but the teen wanted to see all he could. Elroy was not one to rush in and get the second best pokemon, and although he was no artist, he was sure that he could illustrate the creatures well enough. How hard could it be?

Sophie looked at Carolyn and said happily, smiling, "So? I wonder what pokemon we'll find and how are you? Are you excited?" She sighed, her eevee had to stay inside his pokeball or he could start crying again. That would be a disaster! Oh god she hoped she wouldn't run into any tentacool! She abolutely hated tentacool just as much as she hated geodude. She found they were annoying and ugly. I mean, she does kind of like tentacool and geodude, it's not like she wants them all destroyed, they're just annoying. And too common. She hoped to run into a skarmony, corsela (She LOVES those) and/or zubat or paras.
During the trip she'd brought a book called, "So what do you wanna be?" And underneath it had, "This is the guide to becoming a fantastic and famous breeder!" And she had read most of it. But she only reads a chapter a day so that was the book read for today. She felt happy, being bobbed up and down on the sea and, for a while, watched the sea. The occasional Wingull and tentacool. She wondered how hard it would be. But she needed to pass to become a level two and move onto breeder's class and then she'd be on her way to being the greatest and most famous breeder on the planet! She smiled at the thought. But then a bad thought ran through her head; How would cry-baby Simpre cope? He still wanted his mum and she hadn't got the time to talk to him last night or today! She groaned angrily but didn't let Simpre out. Then she turned back to Carolyn and waited for the young girl's answer.

Alex rubs the sleep out of her eyes as she looks around for wild pokemon. She also lets out Presta, her Jigglypuff, they hadn't had much time to get to know each other, so she decided to let the balloon pokemon out.
<Wow, what a dreary place,> Presta comments as the two start walking together.
"No kidding," Alex says telepathicaly to Presta, the two where still getting used to each other, but could fairly tolerate each other.
<Woah Alex, you always spook me when you do that,> Presta says, and Alex laughs telepathicaly.
"You'll get used to it eventually," Alex replies.

Carolyn stared at Sophie for a while, before comprehending what was said. "'Eh? How are you so...awake? I'm sleepy, anxious, and I'm pretty sure we'll find the pokemon that were listed on that chart-though probably not all of them." She had answered all of the questions, and didn't really have much of a way to help the conversation along. It was too early, and her stomach was doing odd things.
She had a feeling it was a good thing she hadn't eaten breakfast yet. Although, having the wrapped toast in her pocket probably wasn't a good thing either, it would probably attract wild pokemon, which she didn't really want to happen. She just wanted to catch a tentacool, nice and easy.
Oh, she wouldn't care if it was really weak either! That would just make it easier to capture...And that was all she was really worried about.
It could prove to be a problem if she couldn't find /any/ tentacool, but if she stayed on the shore, she'd be sure to.

((Okay, according to the way Nyaa has explained it to me -- please say I have it right -- the reason you can understand pokemon on this site is because of region wide translators. Jenta is covered by one. So is Desipil Accademy. However, Miteinjan, being a poor region, is not. So unless you have a translator for your pokemon then all they can do is growl and yip and make noise. Whether you have a translator or not is up to what you feel is realistic for your character.
MF's character, Arielle, would probably not have one as she comes from a poor family. Nyaa's character, Wendy, might, as she comes from a rich family that seems to be happy to spoil her for getting good grades. Does this explain matters, Pascal? ^^
Whee, and welcome to the randomly generated pokemon mod post from one of the "evil" admins. Basically, I'm uncertain whether I can mod here, and too lazy to think of pokemon to appear on my own. ^^))
As Alexandra broke off from the main group with her jigglypuff, something small and squat scuttled out at her through the fog. The luminecent eyes were not powerful enough to see through the fog at all times, so the orange squishy bug smacked directly into her legs. The paras looked up at Alexanderia curiously, and then pinched her legs experimentally.
Just behind him a second paras skittered sideways into the knot of students milling on the beach. She squeaked, and began to dance back.
Carolyn's descision about the toast proved to be a little too successful. When she drew her hands out of her pockets they had a fet crumbs clinging to them. A spearow that had been hopping along the shoreline collecting food, saw the crumbs and flapped up to Carolyn and began pecking at her in hope of food.

"YEOWW, Presta, attack that Paras with pound!" Alex says telepathicaly to Presta, who goes in for a pound attack.
(Note that the message was directed only at Presta, so the Paras only knows that the Jigglypuff is attacking it, but not what the attack is specificaly.)

((I've come to the conclusion that Carolyn has one of these translator things. Because...Well, Bear spoke to her. And her parents would probably get one. Although they aren't the richest, they aren't the poorest, and she doesn't have much else in the way of technology, because she spent most of her time at the pokemon center anyways. So it was a present to her. ^^))
"Aie!" Stumbling backwards and away from the spearow-although that hardly did anything, since it was pecking at her-she fumbled out Bear's pokeball. And despite the fact that she managed to release the pokeball-without the flashy act of throwing it in the air and catching it again-she couldn't remember any of his attacks. Well, any of them, except one. Sing was pretty much default to remember when dealing with jigglypuff-even if they thought they were teddiursa-So she managed to croak out the command.
"Bear, sing!" It took her a few tries before Bear understood what she was saying, being as they were punctuated by complaints from the attacking spearow, or scratchy from nerves.
At least this part wasn't going to be hard. As long as she remembered to not refer to Bear as a jigglypuff, he got along pretty well with her, and so had no reason to /not/ do as she said. He opened up his mouth and began to sing. Carolyn felt a bit drowsy, but he wasn't aiming it at /her/, and the only reason she felt the effect of his song, she expected, was because the spearow was right next to her.
Momentarily, she wandered if jigglypuff had two songs...One for battle, which would only put to sleep those they wanted to, and then one that they wanted everyone to hear, but put everyone to sleep. It was the only way she could figure out how she could stay awake during this 'sing attack', but fall asleep whenever they weren't in a battle.
Then she realized something horrible. She liked spearow too! She wanted a tentacool, but what if she couldn't find one she liked, and she should have gotten this spearow the whole time? Then, what if she did get this spearow, and ran into a tentacool she wanted? Oh...This was hard!

((God bless rude, rich French teens! And...the catch-up post!))
Ignoring the idle chit-chat that his fellow dinghy mates decided to engage in, Elroy turned his eyes to the shore. It was here in this poor, forsaken slab of an island that he was to catch his starter. Sure, he could wait to catch one, but who knew when the next field trip would be? It wasn't that Elroy didn't like Vivian, the teen just wanted a less apathetic partner. An exotic pokemon, colorful and different, awe-inspiring and maybe even a bit chic. Why ask for too much?
Theez blaatharing gurls arr aynnoying mee. Maybee I shood poosh theme owt?
Finally glad when the shore was within reach, Elroy made his way down the shore, taking note of the placement of the rock pools before heading in deeper. If the general path proved to be as disagreeable as Wendy, Elroy would head to the rock pools. He'd remembered reading about some coral-ish pokemon and a staryu or star-shaped creature. Both sounded nice. There were birds on the main path, though, and some might meet his expectations.
Picking Vivian's pokeball from his belt, Elroy released the pokemon with a simple button press, the snubull immediately shuffling in a full circle around his trainer.
"Scan thee airea foar posseeble speceemens. Yoo remembar thee critearia, coarect?", Elroy commanded, sweeping the path with his eyes, as well. Although there was thick fog, and Vivian had no sense of fashion, he was sure that the snubull would catch something bright or colorful sooner than he would.
<Affirmative...operation commence..>, Vivian replied, orbiting around the Level One as he made his way down the strand. She was confused by Elroy's exact needs, but she would find him something strong. He would leave her then, she knew, but that was the way of things. Maybe Elroy would be different, though. Frowning at the idea of things to come, the Normal-type showed the first emotion that she had since the snubull was chosen as the French teen's companion. Sniffling weakly, Vivian returned to her strict surveillance, any feeling drained from her mind.
((I decided to delve a bit into Vivian. Aww...poor snubull.))

Mew shuffled out and stared at the others. "I don't like this place." he said, holding on to Grabber to keep him balanced. The young teenager was still in his clothing from two days earlier.
"<Mew I hope you change your clothing sometime soon.>" Grabber stated in a calm manner.

Sophie happily jumped out and looked around for the rock pools. Sophie muttered under her breath, "where are the Rock Pools? I looked on the chart and noticed you could find corsola there.... Hmmm. And it said they are common so all the better!" Sophie sighed and noticed them. The young girl smiled happily. But she was a little bit jealous the others got attracted by pokemon. Oh well. She's got to find something! So Sophie scuttled off to the Rock Pools.
At the Rock Pools Miss Dimpa looked hard but silently. She wondered where corsela were. She hoped at least find some sought of pokemon. Anything but a tentacool though. She sighed, contiueing to look. The fog was deep but Sophie could still see into the Rock Pools.... She wondered if she was the only one who was searching in the Rock Pools. She saw no-one else. Sophie had easily had a quick breakfast of cornflakes and decided that she should take Simpre out when she came across a pokemon..... If she came across a pokemon.

((Okay, here's what happens:
I generate 1 pokemon per person who posts their character as looking for a battle, plus 1 more pokemon for the unposting crowd. If your character gets caught up in a battle, the way Alexandria has, then we keep the banter back and forth. If not, just have your character ignore/run from/stick out their tongue at the pokemon and move on ^^.
So, as it stands (i.e. how MF shall keep track without going insane):
- Alexandria is attacking a paras - Carolyn is attacking a spearow - Elroy is out looking for a pokemon, one generated pokie coming up - Mew is just standing in the crowd, which had a Paras scuttle into it earlier - Sophie headed off Rock Pool-wards, one generated pokie coming up - The "crowd" gets one generated pokie for each turn, as long as there is a crowd ^^;
~ ~ ~
The paras, who had been tentatively poking the pink tree, which seemed rather squishy, was suddenly bowled over by the powerful jigglypuff. She squeaked nervously, as the jigglypuff's fists slammed down on her back. Scuttling sideways she glared, and scuttled back, scratching the normal type with one long pincher.
~ ~ ~
The spearow, intent on his hunger heard the pretty music, and was distracted. Such nice music. He wished he was capable of singing. He fluttered over to a rock a little way away from the human and her food, the better to listen. The sounds coming from the glowing eyed creature were soothing, and he felt himself putting his head under his wing. Just the perfect time to take a nap.
~ ~ ~
A wingull perched delicately out on a rock. She looked annoyed, as she watched the two paras bumble in among the humans. The large bird ruffled her feathers in annoyance. Well, there went her lunch. How annoying. Humans always tried to stop the natural cycle of event. On the other hand, humans often dropped very tasty sandwiches. Or could be convinced to drop them if squirted in the face with a water gun.
She stretched her wings, and then lifted off into a long glide, riding the thick swells of early morning mist. Sighting an odd pokemon that she had never seen before, she looped around in her flight to skim just a little over Vivan's head. The pink frilly thing did not look edible, although it did look a few levels under her own. The wingull landed off to the right.
<Hey, you,> she squawked, deciding to gather some information. <Did your human happen to bring a breakfast or lunch with them?>
~ ~ ~
A staryu was attached to the rocks of the pool, its central jewel glowing dully in the morning light. It watched Sophie for a few moments, bubbles coming from the algae and other sea plants floating in the salty water around it. Perhaps the human might drop her cornflakes into the water. She obviously hadn't noticed him yet, but that didn't entail that she would not feed him.
~ ~ ~
Airelle encountered the most punpleasant sensation when she felt little paras feet attempt to climb up beyond her shoes and onto her bare leg underneath her long skirt. She jumped back quickly, dislodging the diminuitive bug, and shuddering convulsively. Quickly she backed away from the paras, as the confused, and now scared little creature looked for another willing tree to climb in the sleepily shifting forest of legs.
"Okay, that's another reason not to catch them," she gasped to herself, taking another step back. I don't want a pokemon that climbs all over me with too many legs." She gulped at the unpleasant thought.
Grey Lady was also definitely staying in her pokeball. Arielle had managed to keep from shrieking, she knew that the sentret would have had hysterics. So, the fuzz ball was staying in her pokeball until or if Arielle found either a scarmory, or a zubat, her intended starters. She had been reading on the boat about both pokemon.
Grey didn't have very good attacks to use against a scarmory, but Arielle grinned as she thought about the one pokemon in the whole group who did have an okay attack for the steel birds. Sure, it may be a little difficult to convince Elroy to bring his snubull closer to the cliffs where both of her intended capturees would probably be more common, but if she couldn't do that she'd ask permission from one of the jigglypuff users to borrow their sleep inducing pokemon.
Arielle turned to head over to Elroy, and nearly stepped on a krabby that had been minding her own business in the backwash. The water type clicked her pinchers warningly, and scuttled sideways away from Arielle -- right into the group of trainers. Arielle's surprised face changed to a grimace, as she felt her skirt's hem brush above her socks, and the cold sensation of moisture collided with her skin.
However, Arielle just reminded herself that this was why thick wool leggings were favored underneath skirts on Cianwood in all seasons, except summer, and there was no replacement for well oiled knee high boots. She resolutely picked her skirt up to her shins, and moved down the beach until she was near the French kid. He was standing in an area that was definitely dry enough for her to put her hem back to its original position just above her ankles, a supercilious expression on his face.
"Hey, what are you looking for?" Arielle inquired.

ooc: I have also decided that Sophie shall have the Translator chip because her family is medium rich but spoils her and she asked for a translator chip before, and she got it. They give her just about anything she asks as long as it's not a house or car.
bic: Sophie looked upwards and noticed the staryu. She smiled and hesitated. Oh what should she do? She was worried she'd come back in a minute, after maybe deciding to capture this staryu, and find a corsola. But what if she decided not to risk it and end up coming back with any pokemon? She continued thinking. In the end, she decided to take her chances and first took out some pokeblock... She handed it to the staryu saying, "Eat them so you'll have full strength in fighting me and my pokemon, Simpre the eevee!" She smiled as she waited for him to eat.

((Heh. Grey Lady reminds me of the names of Robb and Sansa's direwolves.))
Unflinching as the seagull pokemon drifted inches from her head, Vivian eyed the Wingull scrutinizingly. According to Elroy's specifications, she was to find vibrant and colorful and....chic. The snubull did not believe that the bird before her was suitable. Her attitude might go well with the Level One's, though.
<Below average choice, Wingull, requests nourishment. How do you respond, sir?>, Vivian stated, staring down the rude bird.
"No, 'ove coarse not. I naver fed thee one's backe 'ome. Let's jost beet thees wet rat weeth weengs ande finde ay reel pokaymone!", Elroy replied, glaring at the beggar, "Viviane, tackele!" Without hesitation, the snubull kicked off the ground flying toward the wingull like a guided missile. She was surely as robotic and deadly as said weapon. A voice behind Elroy caused him to glance away from the battle.
"Oh, eet ess yoo", the teen commented, not unkindly, unaware of the face Ariele had previously worn. "Notheeng een parteeculair. Jost somtheeng deefeyrent and magneefeecent! Why...?" Narrowing his eyes slightly, Elroy wasn't sure what to make of her question. Most would take it as smalltalk, but he recalled this girl making a comment on the way he spoke.
Wonce ay keetif, allwaz a keetif.

((Actually, Grey Lady's name and personality are taken from a bay horse I used to ride ^^ I don't know how they got attached to the sentret I generated for Ari, but they did.))
"Oh well, I was thinking that there would be some zubat and scarmory over by the cliff, and I'm looking to capture either of those, but if I'm lucky enough to run into a scarmory, Grey won't stand much of a chance. Vivian, however, knows ice fang, and at least that has a neutral type match up against steel flyers. I was hoping that I could borrow her once you had found the pokemon you were looking for," Arielle replied, deciding to go for honesty, although noticing the way Elroy had dealt with the wingull, and his general behavior in class, she suspected that he was the type to refuse out of spite.
The water type took the hit to her side, and tumbled though the air, before crashing to the ground. Had he been higher in the air, she berated herself as she hopped upright, and ruffled her white feathers, she would have been able to stabilize, and pull out. Well, that certainly showed her for showing off.
The wingull glanced at the snubull as she settled her wings calmly. <That was pretty incosiderate,> she squawked at the mammal, before opening her mouth, and unleashing a blast of water upon Vivian.
Arielle looked vaguely alarmed, as she saw Vivian become drenched in water. "Elroy, that bird doesn't even look phased by Vivian's tackle. You did check it's level before you engaged in the battle, didn't you?"
~ ~ ~
The staryu moved slowly over the rocks to the lip of the tidal pool where the pokeblock lay. Feeling carefully with its legs, the staryu moved the pokeblock closer and closer to its main body, before engulfing the treat. It wriggled its finger legs in thanks at Sophie.
~ ~ ~
Along the way, a second krabby could be seen. It was digging in the beach with its pincher, looking for something edible in the rocky landscape. However, it knew that the best bits of vegetation and meat were to be found at the rock pools, so it was beginning to head that way as well.

Mew noticed the krabby. "A tentacuel is what I was going for. But I guess I can go for a krabby."he said to himself. Grabber jumped off his shoulder. "Let's go." Jason ordered. Grabber, thinking the Krabby was something fun to play with streaked out to grab the creature.
