In a few minutes the gyarados reached the other side. <Here you go,> she said, lowering her blocky head to the shore line. <Perhaps you'll have better luck training in the grass.>

"Yeah, thanks for the ride," Rain says as she gets off the sea serpent's back. Looking around at her surroundings she starts walking again. Just a little more training, and I'll be ready for the next gym, she thinks.

((Erm...there's not much grass between the end of the lake and the city, but okay. Maybe I'll just do a lot of "then suddely an nth of a rare candy appeared" sort of thing.))
A venonat waddled out, and gave Rain a good, long, hard look. "<You're a trainer,>" she noted finally. Twitching her antenna, she waited for something to happen.

The venonat paused. Oh man, now she was asking questions! "<Sure,>" she replied lazily.

"Okay, lets go Hera!" Rain says, letting out her Combusken. "Use ember!"
(We're past the swamps now, right?)

<Eek!> flames engulffed the venonat, raosting the fragile bug. They got trapped in her fuzzy fur, and she fell to the ground, rolling over and over until not only the flames were out, but so was she.
Rain's pokedex beeped, saying that Hera had defeated a level 15 venonat, and Hera was now level 18 1/3 because of it.

Rain recalls Hera, and sighs. Okay, in retrospect that probably wasn't a good idea. Why does this always happen to me? she thinks, and tosses a pokeball (assuming the Venonat is there) or if she's not there, keeps walking.

((The horribly burned bug would not exactly have vanished in a puff of smoke, Ruin ^^))
The pokeball hit the pokemon, and sucked the bug type in. It rocked, barely. It was more of a woble, as the venonat was far too gone to resist the capturing forces of the pokeball. As soon as the pokeball dinged, Rain's pokedex rolled out the stats:
Species: Venonat
Level: 15
Gender: Female
Moves: Foresight, Disable, Supersonic, Poison Powder
Personality: This venonat is lazy, lazy. Although she will battle if it seems like less effort at the time, she did not bother to remember any really good attacking moves, as they required too much effort.
Notes: This venonat had suffered second degree burns. Even at a pokemon center it is unlikely that she will ever recover. Much of her fur has been burned off, which means that her defense is shot. A lot of medical attentin is needed.
With that the poke dex stopped reading out information, and the message came up whether Rain would like to nickname her venonat.

Rain picks yes, and thinks for a moment. Finally, she spells out the name Victoria, and shrugs (the pokeball has to go to storage). "Well, I really don't like it when stuff like this happens, and I should probably try and take her to the new hospital or something soon," Rain says, and continues on until she reaches the next town.
(Just going to heal, and then coming back.)

Suddenly, a krabby scuttled out onto the route, snapping his pincers. It glared at Rain, an "I challenge you" expression on his face. He looked only slightly more threatening than an armed rag doll.

The krabby looked a bit surprised as the ground-type started to sparkle with energy, flopping closer and closer. He scuttled a little to the left, since the slowness of the mudfish on land allowed him some time to move away a bit. However, Benny's sparking head still collided with the crab's body, and electricity coursed through him.
It hurt, to say the least.
So he retaliated by aiming a Vicegrip to Benny's neck.

The krabby then fell off, defeated.
Rain's Pokedex beeped. The screen indicated that Rain's barboach (level 18) had defeated a level 14 krabby, and gained 1/4 a level, bringing Benny up to level 18 1/4.

((Do you mean...on the lake...like surfing on it? If you were training your barboach, you could easily just have him fight in the water. If you wanted to train your combusken, you'd have to use long-range attacks from the back of the gyarados. Or did you mean by the lake, like fighting Pokemon who come ashore or hang out near the shore?))
