((Eggy the egg would be level 5...unless...oh I dunno, I could make it higher or something or weird in some way. I still haven't decided if Eggy or Ruby are going to be significant in any way. *brick'd for information slip* IT WASN'T THAT OBVIOUS THIS TIME! DX ))
This time, a random male nidoran (not shiny, he was the normal purple) hopped onto the route, prepared to do battle.

(You know, something just occured to me. In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Goombella referred to the Egg that would hatch into Yoshi as "Eggy." Crap, that one was shiny? *hits her head against the wall for not catching it* And what do I do here? I could use Benny, I suppose, but I forget how well water does against poison.)

The attack hit head-on, and was not only super effective, but a critical hit to the nidoran.
So the nidoran fell, unconscious, into the marshland, and was swum off into the distance.
Rain's Pokedex beeped, telling her that her formerly level 17 1/2 barboach had defeated a level 17 nidoran, giving it one level and elevating it to level 18 1/2.

Rain continues on her way after recalling Benny, looking around for more pokemon.

Suddenly, the splashing in the distance grew louder. As the mist cleared a little, Rain would see that she had reached a large lake. Or, rather, it was probably large...the mist prevented her from seeing to the opposite shore.
The water near-ish her side of the lake swirled, and a huge gyarados thrust her head out from beneath the murky water.
"<Another trainer?>" She muttered, a little agitated-sounding. Giving a twist of her snake-like body, she did a shoulder-less shrug. "<Oh well.>" The serpent swam over to the shallow area of the lake, and lowered her back to near where Rain was. "<Well? What are you waiting for? I assume you don't have a Pokemon who can ferry you across. As long as you promise not to capture me, I promise to get you across the lake without killing you, indirectly or directly.>"

"Deal," Rain says, and carefully gets on the Gyarados' back. "Thanks."
(Woah, you scared me for a second there, thought I would have to fight that Gyarados.)

"<No problem, Trainer,>" the serpent muttered as she pushed off from the shore. She surged ahead through the water, moving her snake-like body up and down and right and left to move forward. They continued through the mist before the gyarados halted. "<Get out a Pokemon who can fight in the water or in the air,>" she ordered as the water before her started to bubble. "<You're being challenged.>"
Suddenly, a krabby hurled itself onto Gyarados' back.
"<Oh, for cryin' out loud!>" Gyarados whined, suddenly turning as still as possible. "<I hate it when I become the battlefield!>"

"Alright, lets go Benny!" Rain says, letting out her Barboach. "Use Magnitude!" Rain says, and Benny uses the attack to create what looks like a huge wave to wash the Krabby onto a nearby island, before following it.
(Didn't want to risk Rain and the Gyarados being hurt by a Spark attack.)

((Good thinking, but how close is the island to the gyrados? Can Rain project her voice far enough?))
The wave slammed into the krabby, making his joints click together. It picked im up and hurled him into the waiting shore, ploughing the water type into the sand.
<What?> the krabby staggered up right, looking utterly dazed.
What had happened here? Since when had this random island come into existance? Not that he had time to wonder about that. There was a foe before him, and he meant to be rid of it.
He snapped his pichers viciously, and darted into the surf in a surprisingly fast sideways scuttle. Grippinng his pinchers around the offending Barboach, he grasped the mudfish, and began to squeeze the pokemon in a vicegrip.
<Want me to take you closer?> the Gyarados inquired wearily. <Normally pokemon aren't stupid enough to attack those riding me, but there are always one or two crazies.>

"Yeah, go ahead," Rain says, before calling out as loud as she can. "Benny, use spark!"
Benny on the other hand is in a bit of a tough spot, being vicegripped and all as his strength slowly fades, but manages to let the elecricity flow into the Krabby with the spark attack.
(Well enough to be heard, but lets move closer so she doesn't go horse.)

The spark roared up the karbby's hard pinchers, and blasted into his hard shell. It fired the crustacean, blackening his tough armor. The krabby jerked back, and let go of Benny. He twitched and fell in the surf.
A wingull, watching the battle from a discrete wantage point crawked at his good fortune. In a second his surf board wing had unfurlled, and he glided swiftly through the air. Grabbing the krabby in his claws, intending on a good meal, he soared over the lake.
Benny defeated a lv. 16 krabby Benny is now lv. 18
Gotta run.

<That should be the last of them,> the gyarados said, semi-hopefully as she moved out into the lake. <Thanks for getting that krabby off. But I do warn you, if I become an arena too many times to count then I will go under water and you can paddle your way to shore, trainer. Why don't you sit back and relax? Take out a fishing rod, or something.>
((Do you want to continue to battle? The gyarados will sink if used as an area more than three times, which will land you a whole new set of adventures. Or not, if you perfer not to continue battling.))

(Well, what stinks is that Rain doesn't have a fishing rod.)
"No problem," Rain says, and lies back, thinking to herself. I've only heard a little bit about what's going on back home. Lance has stepped way out of line, and if he's not stopped... she thinks, trailing off as she sighs.
