((Bah. I'm thinking that Charge of the Light Brigade describes Morath and Carra's relationship pretty well (as in, it's doomed because of massive mis-communication), so you'll be seeing lines from the poem as thread headings, until some other poem or song grips my imagination.))
Carra sighed slightly as they walked down the rough bark path. It worried her that the mist was so thick she could barely see her own feet in front of her. However, this was not hampering Morath, who was trotting ahead happily enough. Carra took heart as she watched Morath's blue scaled hide bob along a few feet in front of her, the light grey of her skull ridge blending into the fog.
If Morath was fine here then so was sh-- "Morath, where are you going? The cliff is that way!" Carra yelled as Morath suddenly veered to the right.
Morath ignored the warning. Cliffs were nothing to a bagon, and she wanted to look, for just a minute, at the open expanse of sea and sky. She ducked under the railing, and trotted to the edge of the bluff, which loomed up rather more quickly than she would have believed. The wet pebbles underfoot were slippery, and it was hard for her to gain any purchase for her hind claws. However --
Morath gazed over the lip of the cliff. The fog swirled and rolled beneath her, almost as if she was in the sky already. Far a head the sun pierced the airborne water, burning it away, and casting rainbows at the same time. The ocean was deep sapphire blue against the light azure of the sky. If only she could spread her arms -- One more step and she would be aloft on the eddying currents of air --
"Morrrrrrrath!" She heard Carra yell, shattering the fantasy. Morath looked around, and then down at the cliff edge. A practice jump was all very well, but it would be a long time before she could climb back up again. Drat reality.
She turned back, slipping, and slithering over the pebbles between the cliff and the railing. Almost to the point where Carra was standing anxiously -- wasn't the girl brave enough to venture under or over it -- Morath slipped ona stone, and went sprawling. Her chin collided painfully with the ground, and she grabbed at a patch of pickleweed to use as leverage to rise. The sudden weight of a growling bagon on the plants ripped them from their rocky crevasse, and nearly sent Morath sprawling again.
"Oh!" Carra gasped. Morath looked too. Cushioned on a thick bed of moss a long thin egg lay, water beading on the shell. Lunch! Morath thought, and lunged for the egg, trying to get her jaws around it.
Carra felt anger cours through her, and she swatted Morath's rear with her palm, before jerking on the dragon fang necklace to pull her back. "NO!" she ignored the vicious snappings of Morath's jaws as she grabbed the egg with the hand that had swatted Morath. Letting go of the black thong Carra picked up the egg, and nearly cried out in surprise. "It's still warm! Morath, this contains a baby pokemon. Don't eat it! It must have rolled out of a nest somewhere. I'm sure one of my t-shirts can dry it off--ffffffaaaaawwwww!" Carra yelled.
Morath, and angry at having been deprived of her meal, had bitten Carra's ankle in revenge.

A wingull, drifting by on the breeze, flapped down to land on the ground near the pair-plus-egg. She squawked to herself, ruffling her feathers in thought.
What the heck were they doing? They looked rather silly...

Carra was now engaging in a small ritual off hopping up and down, trying to keep the egg from falling from her grasp, and dancing out of the way of any more of Morath's bites. However, the bagon was distracted by the movement out of the corner of her eyes. Like a true predator her head snapped around and she glared ferociously at the wingull.
Carra stopped jumping up and down, and watched through her slight haze of pain tears. Oh she was -- about three feet away from the start of a real battle. She had to take control of Morath, now!
"Morath, start off with a bite attack!" Since Morath was so good at that, it must be a safe move to use.
Morath charged toward the wingull even faster, and opened her jaws to clamp down on the feathered pokemon.

The gull - rather surprised, to say the least - squawked, but made no move to run away...until it was much too late.
She shrieked in pain as the incisors plunged into her feathers, and she struggled as best she could. She, being not much of a predator and not used to vicious fighting, panicked for a bit.
Then she remembered she knew a little attack called water gun.
Straining her small neck to aim her long beak into Morath's mouth, she prepared a gush of water. Once her water glands had pulled enough of the liquid into the attack, she let the stream of water plunge into Morath's mouth and throat.
Hopefully, it would at least push her off, allowing her to take to the air.
((I think you need a bodyguard. ^_^;; ))

((I'm caught between wanting to battle effectively, and wanting play Carra with her lack of knowledge realistically. At least Morath is resistant to most elemental attacks. ^^; And she's smart enough to be a leetle more competent battling when she realizes that Carra's instructions aren't the best. Carra doesn't need a body guard. She needs someone to give her advice. She needs -- CHRONO! ;D
Erm, also, when you're biting something usually your mouth is closed around it.))
The water blasted into Morath's face, gushing down her nostrils. She let go of the wingull quickly, spluttering. Her eyes stung, and her throat and nose burned uncomfortably. Luckily, her head ridge had taken a lot of the force of the scouring water gun.
She backed away slightly, leaving the wingull to pump her way higher in the air.
"Bite!" Carra yelled at Morath again.
Morath ran for the wingull, jumping, hoping that her jaws might close around a foot, or something. Even as she flew through the air she felt that this was not the smartest idea. How could you bite anyone who was capable of flying away? Wingull weren't spearow or pidgey, even, and didn't need to land briefly after short flights. Wingull were at home in the air. This was a stupid battle to be in. Morath prayed that her stupid non-dragon trainer had a master plan.

The wingull shrieked as the blue jaws clamped around her yellow left foot. She was dragged back to earth for a moment, but several frantic flaps of her wings were all that was required to free her from the harsh grip. Quickly, deciding that if she was going to battle, she was not going to let those teeth get at her, the water type flapped higher in the air than Morath's jaws could realistically clench. She glared down at the small dragon, and blasted a second water gun in her direction.

((Thanks Purr-chan))
Morath stumbled back and put her stubby arms up as if this could ward off the powerful torrent.
"Go left and forward!" Carra cried, mainly to say something. She was breathing heavily her eyes wide. She had to keep control of her pokemon, and the situation. She had to! She didn't even check to see if the wingull was tiring at all.
Morath made a hop skip to the left as her trainer had instucted, thinking that her trainer might not have been as stupid as she had thought. Obviously Carra must want her to get under the blind spot underneath the wingull. She shook the water drops off as she ran, surprised to find herself panting. Not that she would ever had admitted to being tired by the annoying attack. But her skin certainly stung.
"Okay, one more bite should do it!"
WHAT?! Morath turned to look at Carra, shocked that she couldn't see that Morath couldn't reach the wingull.

((Hmm, not much I can do to spice this post up, I'm afraid.))
The wingull slipped onto a current that was slightly lower, drifting to the right. She was really tired. He legs and wings felt mangled. She swung around to skim around and hit Morath with a water gun.

Morath was enraged at Carra's display of stupicdity. Getting hurt by a third water gun didn't help her temper. She rushed angrily at the wingull, planning to take everything out on the bird, as she jumped, pounded, scratched, and bit.
((dun worry, my post isn't much better.))

The wingull tumbled from the sky under the vicious assault. She crashed onto the rocks close to the cliff, fainted. Having a big white body land right on you head, especially the big white body of a natural predator, is not a nice experience. A paras bolted from under the wingull's weight. It started to scuttle up the path towards Morath and Carra, but then saw the pair with its weak eyes, and stopped, looking uncertain.

Morath shook final water drops off her face, growling and snapping at her trainer for being stupid. Honestly, Morath wanted to fly, she was not capable of it. How could you bite something in midair when you were in the ground!?
Carra, not understanding what was wrong, but certain that something had gone wrong, sighed, and moved her pack around to find a magazine that might have some kind of helpful hint. It was the sand paper scratch of Morath's feet against the tanbark that warned her. Carra looked up in time to see Morath bearing down on the paras with evil intent in her eye.
"No, Morath!"
The bagon completely ignored her trainer. Carra bit her lip. Okay, Bite was definitely more powerful than Rage. Whatever had gone wrong with the attack last time couldn't go wrong this time, could it?
"Morath, use Bite!"
The bagon growled to herself, thinking that she was going to do it anyway. It wasn't as though she was obeying her stupid trainer.

The harsh crunch of the teeth against the paras' relatively soft carapace echoed around the rock. The paras clicked his little digging claws, obviously in pain as he twisted and jerked in Morath's grasp. Although the spores from his mushrooms should keep the dragon from swallowing him, the dark energy licking around her teeth ate into his little body. The paras, obviously terrified, struggled to turn and swipe at his assailant with a scratch.

The paras' scraping claw caught on Morath's left nostril, and tore down her blue jaw in a stinging line of red. She opened her mouth to screech in indignation, before hearing Carra say, very far off: "Ignore it, Morath. Use another Bite attack, come on!"
Morath lunged for her opponent again. She couldn't tell if Carra was actually being clever, or just repetative. However, she supposed she would find out what she could about her trainer after the paras was defeated.

The paras felt the jaws bite deeper into his body, closing like a deadly vice. He couldn't even gather the strength to fight off the encroaching darkness. He fainted while still within Morath's damning grip, filled with the knowledged that he was about to become a snack for an evil bagon. It is not a comfoting way to die, was his last miserable thought before oblivion claimed him.

((I like paras, I'm not going to kill him, Purr-chan. -.- Oi, I feel like I'm back on Delmara. ... Horrible thought: What if Coson and Morath had babies...))
Carra punched the air excitedly. Morath had defeated a second pokemon. She had probably gotten stronger. This would be cool. Stronger was good, right?
"Morath, that was great! You can spit it out now. I think you gained a level," she told her dragon encouragingly.
Morath gave Carra a look, and continued to crunch down.
"Morrath, seriously, spit it out now," Carra's eyebrows knit together. "It isn't funny."
Morath wondered if her trainer did just not understand that bugs were full of valuable protein. Even with the disgusting spores covering the paras, the crab-like insect would make a good meal.
"Morath!"
The teal dragon felt the ground vibrate as the thick-set trainer pounded over to her, and began to try to pry her jaws apart. Morath growled angrily, but Carra pushed her cheeks in, forcing Morath's jaws open, and letting the unconscious paras flop onto the barky ground. Cara gulped. The teeth had ripped into his protective armor, and the orange bug appeared to be -- oozing something. Maybe not blood, but it was probably a vital fluid of some form.
Well, I needed another pokemon anyway, and I've got to get this little fellow to a hospital or whatever they use.
Rummaging in her sack produced a pokeball, which she flung at the paras.

The pokeball rocked, and rocked, before finally binging. If Carra picked up the pokeball, and slotted it into place on her pokedex she would discover that the stats of the paras were:
Paras Name: ? ? ? Gender: Male Level: 5 Attacks: Scratch Special Ability: Effect Spore - 30% chance of incuding poison/paralysis/sleep on opponent with physical contact Personality: Just your average creepy-crawly. Likes climbing on things, and isn't very agressive unless you happen to be a tasty piece of sea weed. Pretty much peaceful, but read to see new horizons where a pokemon can skitter around upright, and scuttle freely. Notes: Effie, there might be some problems, considering the wounds he was given.

Carra did indeed press her pokeball in the crappy machine's depression for such objects. She looked worried, as she got a read-out of the damage in garbled Japanese and English. Hmm. "Hey, Morath, not that I object," you little liar, her conscience pointed out, "to you asserting yourself and such, but we've got to take this guy back to the professor now. Which means back along the path."
Morath merely rolled her eyes. Her trainer obviously did not understand about the natural rule of survival of the strongest. Stupid trainer. Carra wasn't fit to train almighty dragons if she cared about insects.
However, she turned around obediently to follow her trainer up the path.

However, as Carra and Morath turned back through the thinning mist they were assailed by another wingull. This one was small and scrawny, but it had watched the battle between the dragon and the bug, and now it wanted the food that the bug represented. With a squawk, the seagull pokemon dove for Carra's pokeball clutching hand.

"Akk!" Carra jumped backward as the shape rocketed towards her, slipped, and landed on her bottom. "Morath, help! Use rage or something!"
The already angry bagon was a natural for using rage in any case. She backed up, and then leapt at the offending pokemon, ramming into it with her hard head.

The wingull was hit in the stomach, and went tumbling end over end in mid-air. The young pokemon had barely broken shell a few weeks ago, and the hit had winded him so badly that he couldn't keep flight. He landed on the path, unable to get up or attack again.
