(Bad title, I know, its a reference to an old book by George Orwell.)
Rain finds herself in the swampy Route 2, and shrugs while she starts down the path.

((Hmmmm...*looks through list of wild Pokemon* Wow, I put a lot of them...here, I'll have something appear that has an advantage against Matthew. I think that, after your TWO battles against Arisa, you deserve an easier gym battle. ^_^;;
And you still haven't officially caught Lotad yet, so I guess I still control her.))
Lotad walked down the road, careful not to step in the swamp, even though she probably would have been fine.
"<Are you going to catch me or->"
But she was cut off as a Barboach slithered across, glaring at her.
"<Don't step on me, strange duck thing!>" Came a gruff voice out from behind the small whiskers of the Barboach's face.

"<Right!>" Lotad nodded, jumping forward and chomping down on the side of the Barboach. Her opponent whined, and struggled...but was caught in a weird position in a super-effective attack.
"<Mmppppp-ragh!>"
And the other Pokemon was thrown against the hard dirt road in a modified one-hit-knock-out.
Lotad grinned a little up at Rain. "<You're by far not the best trainer - you barely one that gym match, after all, but I did just win this with one hit. So I guess you're okay enough for me to go with you,>" she chirped with a wink.
((Okay...levels, levels...
Arisa's Seel (level 9) was defeated by Kansai (level 8) and Lotad (level 10), so Kansai gains 2 levels from that, and Lotad gains 1/2 a level.
Arisa's Lapras (level 10) was defeated by Kansai (level 10) and Lotad (level 10) so they all gain 1 level from that.
Arisa's Jynx (level 11) was defeated by those same two, so they gain 2 levels from that.
The wild Barboach (level 16) was defeated by Lotad, so she gained 2 1/2 levels from that.
So currently, Hera is level 11 (everything should gain experience in theory...1/2 a level for the two Pokemon she did battle against), Kansai is level 13 and Lotad is level 16. If I were you, I'd catch that Barboach...it would behoove you to have at least two Pokemon without an offensive or defensive disadvantage. And...oh hey, Lotad evolves at level 14...))
Suddenly, Lotad started to glow. She gave a yelp, unsure of what was happening to her. She whimpered as everything in her body started to change, hurting and feeling good at the same time. Suddenly, the glowing stopped, and she looked down at the ground...which was no longer so close.
"<I-I'm a Lombre!>" She gasped, marveling at her deeper voice and taller stature. "<YES!>" And with that, she started to dance.

"Wow, my pokemon evolved, pokeball go!" Rain says, and tosses a pokeball at the Barboach, before using another pokeball on the newly evolved Lombre.
(I'll deal with the Barboach or any other water pokemon later.)

((How strange...in the first two adventure threads of Route 2, both trainers catch the first two wild Pokemon they encounter in the first post they catch anything in...@_@
And since I generated a number that gets your barboach an egg move...I gave him Spark, since having a ground-type with an electric attack is just too good a chance to pass up. Plus, he can replace Kansai as your electricity-user-who-isn't-actually-that-type.))
Both Pokeballs rocked three times before dinging shut.
Rain's Pokedex flashed, and two sets of stats were displayed. First was for the Barboach, and they were as follows:
Barboach Level: 16 Group: 1 Gender: Male Nickname: whatever you want Ability: Oblivious: cannot be infatuated by opponent Attacks: Mud Slap, Spark, Water Gun, Magnitude Personality: He has a clear head, and always keeps his cool. He regards everything as a simple problem with a simple solution, and all he has to do is find the solution. He is polite towards everybody, and chooses to not talk much, and view everything with a calm silence.
Then, just as the Pokedex screen switched to Lombre, her Pokeball disappeared. The Pokedex beeped again, stating that it was a successful transfer, before switching back to her stats. They were:
Lombre Level: 17 Group: 1 Gender: Female Nickname: whatever you want Ability: Rain Dish: recovers a little health each turn if it is raining Attacks: Astonish, Growl, Absorb, Nature Power Personality: Pretty well-rounded personality-wise. She's relatively nice, though sarcastic at times, but is always up for battling. She gets annoyed if she loses, though, and usually blames it on Rain.
((If I were you, I'd use Barboach for the gym. The water attacks will do well against all three, Magnitude will own against the two part-rock-types, and Mud Slap will allow you do dodge every now and then.))

(Why can't she blame it on who's really at fault? THE OPPONENT!)
Rain picks up Lombre's pokeball, and the pokeball for Barboach dissapears off to stay with Professor Oak in Kanto. I hope that Caterpie that was sent to him before didn't cause too much trouble, Rain thinks as she continues on her way.
Somewhere in Kanto, poor, poor Professor Oak is being tormented by a familiar Caterpie, but that's a different story.

((Because everybody has their faults, and that's hers. *shrugs* I try to give Pokemon as well-rounded personalities as I can in such a small space. At least for her, I didn't have to make it completely from scratch...I based it around the gym match, mostly.
Oh, and technically, since Barboach was caught first, he would be with you, and Lombre would be in the box.))

((Okay. And do you want Lombre with you? I can have the PC system malfunction and switch two of your Pokemon for you. She's your best fighter for Group 1, so I'd assume so...))
Suddenly, a tangela appeared and charged at Rain.
"<I wanna battle!>" Came the battle cry of the grass-type.

(Yes, please do, but right now my best bet is of course Hera.)
"Fine then, go Hera!" Rain shouts, and lets out her Torchic. "Use ember!"
(I have a question, if humans can't step off the path without getting bogged down, how can pokemon do it?)

((Because most Pokemon are either adapted to the environment or are light enough to find places to stand. I'd think that if a Pokemon wasn't use to marshlands, they would probably have trouble moving...so I'd keep Hera on the road, if I were you. Oh yeah, and Hera knows Focus Energy, did you know that?))
The tangela grimaced as she was hit with the tiny flames, but rolled in the dirt to keep her thick vines from catching fire.
She then swayed her vines, spraying a light green powder over the battlefield. If anybody breathed it in, they'd find themselves slowly falling asleep...
A few grains of said powder landed on Rain's Pokedex and one of her Pokeballs. They started to buzz and zap dangerously, before the Pokeball disappeared.
Rain's Pokedex flashed three times before reading: "Transfer complete." If Rain checked her team's status, she'd find out that her active team had gone from "Torchic, Zigzagoon, Barboach, Bagon, Horsea, Egg" to "Torchic, Lombre, Barboach, Bagon, Horsea, Egg."

((Lucky 75% of hitting...*grumble grumble*))
The Tangela jumped back a little, so as to have only a few of her vines, not her actual body, take the hit. It still stung, though...
She then shot her vines forward to attempt to suck health from her foe.

Hera counters with an ember attack.
(I used a similar strategy with a Ghastly in another RPG, having the outer gas take the attacks instead of the core, which is the weak point.)

The tangela repeated her previous tactic of letting the embers hit the outer layers of her vines, then rolling in the dirt of the road put them out before they did any serious damage. She then stuck a few of her tentacles into the ground, using Ingrain to regain some of her health.
"<Hehehe...Tangela are weak, but we're hard to beat!>" She sang, looking at Hera's bewildered expression.

Tangela rolled her eyes, twisted her body, rolled, regained her health, and got up.
"<You're too repetitive,>" she mumbled. She then let a few of her tentacles shoot forward towards the chick, wrapping them tightly around her foe in a Constrict attack, hoping to cut off some of Hera's air supply, keeping her Ember attack weak.
((Because fire comes from oxygen...and if Hera can't breathe deeply, her Ember would be weakened, in theory.))

Tangela winced, and withdrew her stinging vines. "<Ow,>" she muttered. Luckily, her health levels were still pretty high, so she went for another Constrict after regaining some of her lost health with Ingrain.
