((After a bout of recent spam-RPers, I almost want to make this "required" reading. So I'm putting it as an annoucement...))
((This is a shortened version of the Jenta strategy guide, A Hitchhiker's Guide to Jenta, which can be found here: At this finely crafted linked bookstore. New pages will go up once I feel better...and this may have stuff added to it, too, if the need arises.))
Tips and Tricks for Surviving Jenta
Posting In General:
- If a mod hasn't updated your thread in awhile, you may want to remind them. Once. They will hear it...and either update it, or give you a reason why they can't. If you keep pestering them, that's WHINING, and they probably will just ignore you. WHINING WILL GET YOU NOWHERE.
- In an RP thread, try not to post with purely out-of-character posts. Do too many of 'em, and that's spam. Spam is something that gets mods very angry...plus, it's against the rules.
- Try as hard as you can to write at least three sentences. It keeps mods actually willing to mod for you...and you can't get much of anywhere without a mod modding for you...
- Please use correct English. If English isn't your first language, or you have a disability that makes it hard for you to type correctly, please say so! Otherwise, the mods are just going to assume you are lazy and immature (or, even worse, don't read the rules).
- Read every single thread in the Rules and Terms board. You absolutely have to read the Rules thread and the C-Box Rules threads (and you really should read the thread about the group system), but the other threads are optional. However, it is strongly suggested that you read them.
Character Applications:
- Avoid Mary-Sues, or, if you can't do that, make them interesting. Go into detail with their history and personality...it'll get you off to a good start with the mods. You want the mods to think you are worthy of getting good Pokemon (or Pokemon that you want).
- Don't whine if we haven't approved yours yet...we may not be online, or we may be busy. Whining does not make you look very mature. We'll get to you as soon as we can!
The Lab:
- Don't copy and paste the list of what you get, then modify it for what you want. Write a story of your character going into the lab and asking for the Group 1 starter they want.
- The lab can be a slow or fast process. If you know exactly what you want for your Group 1 starter, down to the personality and gender, then say it. You will most likely get it. If you want to "meet the starters" first, you can, but you will have less say over what you get and the thread will last longer.
Routes:
- Routes go by faster if you train in more than one place.
- Don't ask a mod to make a certain Pokemon appear. They are pretty random, actually.
- You cannot auto a wild Pokemon (except for certain situations). You CAN, however, say where your Pokemon is aiming. It is, however, up to the mod to decide where the attack hits.
- You can catch a Pokemon if it is unconscious. There is an almost 100% catch rate if you do this, HOWEVER, the Pokemon may be carried off by another wild Pokemon before you have this chance. If you throw the Pokeball while it is still conscious, the catch rate goes down, but it has very little chance of escaping.
- Pay attention to what the mod says the color of the Pokemon is. More than one trainer has let a shiny get away...
- Your Pokemon would not realistically last the whole route without being healed. THIS IS WHY YOU GET A BAG OF ASSORTED BERRIES FROM THE LAB. Just say, "<your character> gave an oran berry to <your Pokemon>, and s/he felt a lot better." You may also say that your character randomly finds a berry on the road to use for healing. It's FINE, and KEEPS YOU FROM GODMODING
Gyms:
- Make sure the three Pokemon you will use are at the level cap. You CAN defeat a Pokemon one or two levels higher than you, but three is kind of pushing it.
- Gym threads are generally about a page per opponent's Pokemon minimum. It keeps the battles from getting too godmode-y.
- Your first two gym battles will be easy. The mod WILL suggest strategies to you if it seems you aren't doing a good job.
- The second two will be harder. The mod won't suggest strategies to you DURING your battle, but keep your eyes peeled along the route and in the city beforehand for hints to a possible strategy.
- STRATEGY IS KEY for your last two gym battles. You won't get any hints...most likely. Make sure to be as creative as possible...within reason.
- CREATIVE STRATEGIES will let you win. Be creative...use the terrain of the gym, use the position of the Pokemon, use whatever...just be creative (within the realm of reality).
- A good way to keep your thread from being a godmode-y thread is to either have a Pokemon faint or get switched out (for fatigue or being close to unconsciousness) after each of your opponent's Pokemon goes down. It is completely realistic for a Pokemon to defeat one of your opponent's Pokemon...if it begins at something close to full health. However, defeating two in a row is pushing it. Just have them faint/get switched after the next Pokemon is released. YOU CAN WIN THIS WAY.
Training:
- Depending on the levels of your team, you can be in four to six places at once. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. You can train multiple Pokemon (or multiple groups, even) at the same time...which makes everything A WHOLE LOT QUICKER.
- The places you can go at any time are (other than wherever you are in the main part of Jenta): Sankaku Island (either the grasslands or the colosseum), the Underground Maze, and the Altering Mansion. The levels (and groups) of the wild Pokemon here depend on the Pokemon you send out, so you can battle them whenever and with whatever Pokemon needs training.
- You may also challenge one Flipside Gym Leader at a time. However, you may need to train to be able to realistically battle one...they all have teams for each group, though. Not only can you get levels from beating them, but also some really great prizes!
- Last is the Challenge Arena. You can be in one (this may change) battle at a time against another member. You can totally train with another member...even the loser gets levels. IT will make your training life easier...
Other Things:
- There WILL be a plot in Jenta. It is currently in the planning stages...however, hints as to what may come are usually found in the News/Updates board. CHECK IT.
- Don't break the rules. Ever.
- Don't PM a mod with the team you want. You will probably, no matter what, end up getting two (but no more than three) Pokemon that you want (or of the type that you want), and getting more is EVEN MORE UNLIKELY if you make your favorites known.
- If you write very well, or at least show some effort, you will get what you want.
