Tommy was touring the Nishihara building on his own today. He liked his pokemon, but together, he felt that Pai and Shiri would cause a lot of damage inside a building, as would Sentouki, and Kimial, once he decided everything was too static for his tastes. Angel would probably get screamed at for being a sneasel, or mobbed by a bunch of kids for being shiny. Actually, only Ora would probably manage well in the large building, and she couldn't walk at the moment, so that was out of the question.
He came up a flight of stairs, and turned a corner. The hallway had a sign over it, but Tommy ignored it. He tried to ignore most printed things, as reading them five times over to understand got to be a pain. The sign he ignore said "Adoption."
He didn't ignore the attendants, however, bustling over pens, and making cooing noises, or handing out food. He look curiously into a pen and saw a little zigagoon, but as she looked to be alsleep he decided not to make a fuss.
Of course, he didn't notice the flash of ligt behind him. Kimial let himself out of his pokeball, feeling angry. NOTHING changed int the pokeball. Nothing! It was a torture device, and he was going to rend the human ... The sound of babies making little cries all around him brought his attention to the surroundings. Hearing the cry of a nidoran he peeked over a pen, and saw -- the cutest little kid.
Don't get Kimial wrong. He was a blood thirsty, agressive, danger to all statics. But the nidoran looked so defenseless, as did all the other youn g pokemon around about. He melted invisibly into the background, and began to dash from one pen to the next, returning to certain pens (usually the youngest or weakest pokemon) continueally, just to check to see if the pokemon were safe. Finally he stopped outside the pen of the weakest pokemon, trying to get his head together. Mew, he was such a stupid little baby, to be so concerned for the safety of these small, defenseless -- Stop it! He couldn't believe that he was doing this to himself. Stupid male kecleon fathering instincts.
He crossed his arms and began to mutter: <I'm not a nice person. I'm not a nice person. I'm not a nice person.>

Another volunteer, a bleary-eyed high school junior (still in her unfashionable blue-sailor uniform...oh, how she loathed the ONLY high school to have sailor uniforms - hers), looked up from Tripod's pen. "I thought I saw...nah, I must be dreaming." She smacked her blonde-hair covered head. "I really need to get more sleep, or something. Would they mind if I slept on the job?"
Suddenly, Tripod woke up, smiling up with her happy raccoon face. "<Maa! Maa!>" Tripod cried, hopping up onto her three legs. Her legless hip swayed a bit, but the girl was able to keep from falling down. She learned to walk on three legs - it wasn't much of a problem.
The girl grinned. "Good morning, sleepy-head-Tripod!" The zigzagoon cooed as she scratched her neck...untill she heard some muttering near her. Picking up Tripod, she walked over to a red stripe hanging near the wall...and kicked it.

((Actually Kimal stopped near Shasta's pen, noot Tripod's ^^. And Wheeee! It's snowing out [/sarcasm]))
The cute Mary Jane caught Kimial right in the chest, and he was knocked back, and into the wall, where he flickered into visibility. <Hey, static, wanna try that again?!> he yelled, falling to the ground, and daring forward.
Only to be brought up short as Tommy lunged in from the side. "Kimial! What are you doing out of your pokeball, and stop disturbing the baby pokemon."
Kimial stopped fighting Tommy's grasp, and looked guiltily over to the pens on either side, as Tommy quietly wished the floor would swallow him. This was soooo embarrassing, being seen as unable to control his pokemon in a public place like this.

((Using Effie's old thread because I'm too lazy to create my own, and Shasta was involved in it, so similarities, right?))
Viola smoothed her nurse's skirt again, as she got of the elevator. In her hands she held a file folder with some paper, and on her face she wore and eager, happy smile. She (having no problems with reading,) immediately walked up to the front desk, and tapped the bell.
She had changed into her nurse's uniform, and pulled her dark hair back into an efficient-looking braid. Her unifor shrit was crisp, her skirt smooth, her demeanor charming, and she was going to complete this mission sucessfully for Violet -- and of course, Lien, her uber boss, but Violet had asked Viola personally. Viola was ready to resrt to violence if necessary.

((Guess I'll keep using Samantha for this one. ^_^;; ))
Samantha gave a "gack!" sound, told Tommy to just play with the babies and that she'd kill him if they were hurt or stolen, and rushed back to the counter, Shasta in tow. Why did the newcomer have to come when she was the only one available?
Smiling and breathless, the young woman greeted the nurse. "Hi...sorry...we're...shortstaffed..." After that, she paused to catch her breath, then was ready to be more businesslike about the situation. "What can I do for you?" Samantha asked, stroking Shasta's head.
Shasta cooed at her favorite staff member, nuzzling her hand.

"Hi, I'm from the Florak pokemon center," Viola told Samantha pleasantly. "Are you a volunteer here? And you, little bueaty," her gaze turned down adoringly to Shasta, "you must be Shasta. Am I right?"

"Um, yeah, I volunteer for school." She smiled, and held Shasta up to Viola. "This is Shasta. Do you want to pet her? She's very sweet. But...um, how can I help you? Are you looking to adopt an egg?"
Boy, could she not take a hint.

Viola scratched the blind dratini under the chin. "Yes, you just are the sweetest thing, aren't you?" She looked back up at Samantha, her soft expression getting a little more professional again. "Actually I'm here about Shasta. I've been told to take her back to Florak. There's apparently some new sort of aroma therapy that they want to try on disabled pokemon to see if it does anything for her. The nurse at the Hospital is recommending it. She was the one who managed to stablize a mutanted espeon, I think she has a theory on how to make Shasta able to at least speak, if not see."

Sammy froze. She wanted to...take...Shasta? "I-I-I-"
"That sounds wonderful!" Sammy whirled around to see an old man - the supervisor and owner of the eggery - walk in. "Did you mean Violet Shaw? She's a wonderful nurse...if you're recommended by her - which you are, I just got an email - I'd love to see if you could take little Shasta!"
Sammy just stepped back a little, and hugged Shasta tightly.

Halfway up the stairs, Rain slips on a pair of sunglasses while pressing a button on them. When she exits into the eggery, she is completely unrecognizable, making herself to look as a Female Cooltrainer (from the games), and casualy enters the eggery, noticing Viola and Sammantha. I might be too late, she thinks.

While the head administrator was blabbering about Shasta's condition to Viola, Samantha realized somebody else had come in. Flustered, she maneuvered over to Rain. "Hi...can I help you?" Please say she wants to adopt an egg or something...I can't take being in this room! Samantha thought.

"Oh yes, Nurse Shaw is my mentor and just got me my residency at Florak," Viola beamed. "She's just wonderful. We're really hoping that this theory works, sir. I know that you've probably grown attached to her, but if we're right, and she can be healed then we might be able to release her in the wild. It's a long shot, I know, but it might help combat the horribly mutated strains of dragons that have appeared around Jenta."

"Yes, I'm looking for a Dratini named Shasta," Rain says simply. "Its come to the attention of myself and the organization that I represent, that there might be a potential threat to her," she says, eyeing Viola slightly. Maybe it was misinterpreted, but I better not take any chances, Rain thinks.

((I'm assuming nurses have trainer-card-like ID thingies.))
The man grinned. "Sounds great - I'm very impressed with Shaw's work on genetic rehabilitation. However, I still have to do a background check and make sure Shasta is okay with it. May I see your trainer card? Or, rather, nurse identification."
Samantha whimpered a bit, hugging Shasta close. Shasta seemed a little worried that Sammy wasn't feeling okay, and nuzzled Sammy's chin. She wanted Sammy to feel better!
She then heard Rain. "What? You want Shasta, too?"
This caught the attention of the head administrator as well. "What? Two girls going after Shasta? Well, I'll have to see your identification, too, um...what did you say your name was?" He paused then looked back at Viola. "Same with you. What is your name?"
((Edit: erp, Ruin out-posted me.))

"Of course, I'm Viola Acaea," Viola smiled, digging throug her file and handing over her id. "I only just got it certified this morning, by Nurse Shaw. I'm so excited that I passed my exams, and get to be a resident now!" she gushed, the perfect little nurse's assistant. "Do I need to register my pokemon on a separate id, sir? I was just wondering. Since I do a little training on the side, I never know where I stand with these things."

Rain nods, and reaches into her pocket and removes her trainer card (going to pretend she didn't use the hologram thing after all, my bad). Rachel's not exactly going to like it if I don't stop these people. I don't even know if I'm on the right track or not, Rain thinks.

The man took Rain's ID, then nodded at Viola. "Both would work." He then took both, and ran all three through the computer. "So, Viola Ceae and Rain Skylark...both are impressive." He glanced at Rain. "Do you have experience with dragons? Especially disabled ones, such as Shasta."
Samantha touched Shasta's head lightly. Now two people...were they both qualified? Was she really going to lose her baby? She didn't want to. Her stomach sank...she didn't trust either of these two with her baby. They could hurt her!
Shasta just happily cooed in Rain's direction, making Samantha frown. Her cuteness was totally ruining the mood!

Rain gives the small Dragon a smile, even though she knows that Shasta can't see her, and nods. "I have worked with dragons since I was younger. While I'll admit I've never had any experiences with a dragon with Shasta's defects, I can remember one time when I was seven, a friend of mine found a Dratini in the Viridian Forest (I know your wondering why a Dratini was in the Viridian Forest, but just go with me here), he was poisoned by the nearby construction work, I helped nurse him back to health, he's fine now, of course, but I can still remember seeing how much pain he was in, I could feel it even. Its not the same thing, I know, but I've learned over the years that even a dying pokemon deserves a chance to experience love, and that is what is most important in raising a pokemon, not just a dragon type, all pokemon," Rain says, and sighs.
(The Dratini thing is from Pokemon Adventures, Lance got his first pokemon in the Viridian Forest, the same Dratini that Rain was talking about.)

Samantha mumbled a, "but Shasta's not dying," but stayed pretty quiet.
The man raised a white eyebrow. "Well, I'll take your word for it, I guess...hmm...I'm not sure. Rain does have a lot of experience with dragons, and I can see here that you have a Jentan shelgon and eevee. So you do work with defected Pokemon, but...Viola is a nurse, and...hmm...well, I'm not too sure, Samantha, what do you think? You know Shasta well, what sort of person do you think she should go to?"
Sammy bit her lip, and looked down. "Umm...well, she's...she's sweet, and she can't...um...go to a trainer who, you know, would make her battle...umm...I don't...really...think...uh..." She trailed off, hugging the dragon and unable to really speak.

"Sir," Viola looked worried, now. "This is my first day on the job, I'm supposed to be picking Shasta up. What do I say to my bosses in Florak? Oh Mew, what about Nurse Shaw? What'll she say? This was her break through method, we had thought that the dragon pokemon of Jenta could be revitalized," she stood theatrically, her palm on her forehead. "Oh well, if she is capable of looking after a disabled dragon I suppose I should go back, and tell everyone that the project isn't going to get off the ground."
If that stupid little cool trainer with the ice witch exterior gets Shasta, I'll wait for her in the tall grass and break her pretty little face, Viola thought with fierce calculation, completely hidden behind her disappointed, worried gaze. She bit her lip.
"Miss? Will you care for her, and treat her with the kindness and love that she deserves?" Viola asked.
