(Title came from two things: Matthew uses rock-types and ground-types. Rocky, for the rock-types, and road, for the ground-types. There.)
Lawrance, having left the waters of Route 2 behind, headed for the Pokècenter. His Pokèmon definately needed to be healed after Route 2. After the Pokècenter, he was set for the Gym.
"Well, here we are. Iikagen City." said Lawrance. "So, where's the Pokècenter."
"<My guess, the giant building that says Pokècenter in front of us might be it...>" Bouncy said bluntly.
"I think I liked you better when you were over-friendly." muttered Law as he walked into the Pokècenter.
(Short, sweet, and to the point.)

A random male nurse looked up, bored from the temporary lack of anybody needing healing. "Oh hey," he muttered at Lawrence. "D'you need me to heal your Pokemon for you?"

"Yeah, Route 2's harsher than you'd think..." he said as he handed over the Pokèballs and set Bouncy on the counter. "You got any tips for taking on the Leader here?"

The boy took the Pokeballs (after he had Bouncy put in hers), and placed them in the machine. As he scanned the display screen, he proceded to answer Law's question. "From what I've seen, water-types and grass-types work really well against Matthew. Same with anything with good defenses, and flying-types can work as long as they don't go up against his geodude. Using the terrain can work if you're creative enough."
He then paused to look at the screen again. "Well, all your Pokemon needed was a basic healing - they're all fine now. I'd say, in terms of levels, your challenge team should be your jigglypuff, marill, and butterfree, though you may need some strategy to work around them. Oh, and they made it so that you can have 9 Pokemon on your team...right now you only have 6. Currently, you have a jigglypuff, marill, butterfree, and corphish as your Group 1 representatives, a venonat for your Group 2 Pokemon, and a Group 3 trapinch. Would you like to withdraw three of your four other Pokemon? You have two nidoran and a krabby in Group 1 and a shiny pineco in Group 2."

"Hmm... Yeah, I guess Krabby'd be useful as a reserve for my upcoming fight." he said. "Always gotta be prepared."
He thought for a moment, looking through his Pokèdex.
"And my two Nidoran." he said as he closed his Pokèdex.

The boy shrugged, and withdrew the three Pokemon for him.
"Okay, so here are the levels for your Group 1 Pokemon: Jigglypuff and Marill are both level 20, Butterfree is level 19 1/2, Corphish is level 18, and the three you just withdrew are level 16. You can only use three for your gym battle. I doubt the level 16 ones will be able to handle it...and Corphish is susceptible to attacks from the ground, like Magnitude. Do you need any more advice on a challenge team?"

"I've got a plan worked out already." said Lawrance as he grabbed his Pokèballs and picked up Bouncy. "I'll just hope it all works out!"
With that, he left the Pokècenter.
"Now where's the gym..." he muttered, looking around.

A young boy walking home from school looked at Lawrence. "The gym? Oh, just go straight along this road," he offered, pointing in the direction he mentioned, "take a right, go for two blocks, then take a left. After that, just go straight along that road...it's pretty obvious, since it's a big building."

"Thanks." said Law as he took off running down the street. He soon disappeared around the corner.
Lawrance followed the directions to the letter and... Smacked into a sign.
"Why do the powers that be hate me so..." he muttered. "And who makes these signs so dang solid..."

A trainer walked out of the gym with a yawn on her face and a flareon trailing behind her. "She's not here yet...huh?" She stared at Lawrence. "Um...watch where you're going?" she offered in an inquisitive voice, a little worried about the trainer.

He turned to face whoever was talking and saw the trainer. He immediately stepped back from the sign and gave a slight embarrassed chuckle.
"That happens a lot..." he said. "If the signs weren't so solid I'd probably just hit a building or somethin'. By the way, I'm Lawrance."

She smiled warily, her flareon stepping up beside her. "I'm Rayen, and this is my flareon, Jasmine," she stated, waving her hand toward her fire-type. "I was going to meet somebody here, but she isn't here yet."
Jasmine yawned. "<We should go back to the Pokemon Center.>"
"Good idea!" Rayen chirped all too quickly. Smiling an overly-happy smile at Lawrence, she giggled out, "well, I guess we'd better get going," and with that, Rayen and Jasmin sped off toward the Pokemon Center.
As Jasmine ran away, Lawrence could see she had two bushy tails.

Lawrance was silent for a moment, staring at the tails. After the shock passed, he looked up at the sign, which read, "Iikagen City Gym, enter, all ye who wish!" In smaller print was "And will whoever keeps leaving his body print in my signs cut it out before I have to sic a pyromaniac on you?"
"Okay... That was useful..." he said as he entered the building. "But very painful. Ow."
"<Then don't run into signs.>" said Bouncy.
"Don't make me test your stretchability, Bouncy." said Lawrance.
"<Shutting up now.>" Bouncy said quickly.

A middle-aged woman looked up from behind the desk. She smiled, pushed a strand of brown hair behind her dark-skinned ears, and smiled. "Hi there! Are you here to challenge the gym?"

"Nah, I'm here to check the sprinkler system." he said sarcastically.
"<Don't take your anger out on the nice gym assistants.>" said Bouncy. "<I mean, no trainers ever do that in the TV sh... I gotta keep my big mouth shut...>" Bouncy jumped up and slapped Lawrance upside the head. "<YOU HEARD NO MENTION OF TV!>"
(Totally-not-stupid-comic-relief continues!)

The woman blinked, then began to type on the computer. "Okay, so if you're here to challenge Matthew...you need to register with me. Can I see your trainer card?" Before Lawrence could answer, his identification was snatched by thin air, and floated down to the woman. If Lawrence looked over the counter, he would see a baltoy stifling its giggle. The woman nodded, typed a few more things, then gave the card back to Lawrence.
She then got up, told him to "follow me, please", and then walked into an arena. The floor of the arena was gone, leaving a large area of hard, jagged rock surrounded by a thick band of soft, loamy soil marking the boundaries. Some tall, twisted stalagmites grew up from areas on the ground, casting shadows on the battlefield.
On the other side, a middle-aged man waited for them. "Are you the challenger?" Matthew barked.

"Yeah, now let's get this done and over with, shall we? I've got a region to conquer and a gym to buy." he said.
"<You wanna be a gym leader?>" asked Bouncy.
"Yeah, the gym's gonna be awesome. I'll bring you with me and show it to you." said Lawrance.
"<Can't wait.>" said Bouncy.
([/stupidity])
"Anyway, what are the terms of this battle?" he asked.

Matthew glared. A "funny" one, huh? (He hated funny in the gym.) "Three-on-three single battle. The challenger is allowed to switch Pokemon at any time. Items are allowed. The first one to have all three Pokemon faint loses. Is that clear?" He glared, and then grabbed a Pokeball. "I send out first, you attack first."
The Pokeball sailed through the air, opening after it hit a stalagmite. A round, rocky Pokemon appeared, and lifted herself onto her rocky hands. "<Gym battle, huh?>" she asked, glancing back at the stone-faced gym leader.
The woman who lead Lawrence in smiled from the sidelines as she picked up two flags. "Please send out your first Pokemon, sir."

He tossed a Pokèball into the air, which opened in mid-air. A male Nidoran appeared in a flash of light. King looked around, seeing one Pokèmon and a distinct lack of a female Nidoran.
"<Alright, where's my girlfriend?>" asked King.
"One on one battle, she's fine." Law explained. "Double Kick!"
"<As long as she's okay...>" said King as he ran at the rocky Pokèmon at the other end. "<If she was hurt, I'd have to kill you.>" King swung around as he neared his foe and kicked it with his hind legs twice.

((...Level 16 versus level 21? I don't think I can let you win this one. Is that okay? You probably will just succeed in weakening the geodude. Then you have to have one of your Pokemon defeat two...))
