"What a girl in a place I've never heard of has to do with this battle is beyond me..." he stated. "But good goin', Yanma."
He took a potion from his backpack and sprayed the Yanma with it.
"Can't have you fainting out here..." he stated. "Too far from a Pokèmon Center."

"<Thanks,>" he said before looking down the route. "<Let's go!>"
He buzzed along through the steamy air until they were attacked by another pair of Pokemon, this time a Krabby and a Corphish.
"<Let's have a double battle!>" The crab chirped.
"<Yeah, it sounds like fun!>" Agreed the crayfish.
Yanma looked at Lawrence. "<If it's okay, I'd like to sit this one out.>"

"No problem." said Law.
Kooky and Bouncy entered the fray in Yanma's place.
"Bouncy, Sing! Kooky, Poison Powder!" he commanded.

((If I were you, I'd train your Marril some. She's your only Pokemon with a type advantage, unless you catch these two. Aside from Sing, Bouncy would be almost useless against 2/3 of Matthew's team, and Kooky doesn't have the defenses to take many rock-type attacks. Marril, on the other hand, has wonderful defenses, and has offensive attacks with a type advantage.))
Krabby mumbled something about being tone-deaf before dropping off to sleep, and Corphish yelped as he was hit with the powder. Flailing wildly and moaning since it got in his eyes, he somehow managed to shoot some bubbles toward Kooky.

(I have my reasons for doing as I do...)
The brunt of the attack missed her by a mile, but a few stray bubbles managed to hit her and cause some damage.
"Kooky, Confusion on the Corphish! Bouncy, Pound the Krabby!" commanded Law.
Bouncy strolled over to the sleeping Pokèmon and gave it one hard slap. Meanwhile, Kooky fired yet another beam toward the poisoned lobster-like Pokèmon.

Krabby was shoved off the road and into the muck, where she lay asleep.
Corphish, on the other hand, wasn't having even a good DREAM. He yelped as the attack shoved him around so he didn't know which way was up, and suddenly realized...after the attack was over, he STILL didn't know which way was up, as was demonstrated when he accidentally hit himself with his own attack. Also, he felt weaker already from the poisoned...
And so, he concluded, being both confused and poisoned was not fun.

(I got a laugh out of that one.)
"Kooky, Confusion on the Krabby! Bouncy, Pound the Corphish!" commanded Law.
The two gave repeats of their last attacks on the other's opponents.

The Krabby still slept peacefully, though she was pushed into the muck a bit more. But at least she didn't notice her health levels dropping...
Corpish, on the other hand, wasn't quite so lucky. Not only was he hitting himself with his own attack, losing health to poison, unable to tell what was up and down, but now something was HITTING him!

"Bouncy, Pound Corphish! Kooky, Confusion on Krabby!" commanded Law.
The two repeated their last attacks on the same opponents.

And this time, both were knocked out.
Yanma buzzed down to Lawrence, and explained what happened. "<If I'm correct...you beat two level 15 Pokemon with two level 16 Pokemon...so each would gain a half-level. That means your igglybuff and your butterfree are each level 17, now.>" He blinked (can they even DO that?). "<And your butterfree knows Sleep Powder...did you know that?>"
((Wow...hey, do you know what I realized? Butterfree learns Supersonic at level 18. So, in theory, when you go up against Matthew, you could use her to Poison/Sleep/Confuse the enemy, then get their health down with Confusion...that would actually work pretty well for at least one Pokemon. @_@ ))

(WOOT!)
"Okay, that creeped me out..." he said. "I didn't even know Yanma could blink..."
He tossed a Pokèball at the Corphish.
"I know this one has a Water move at least... Who knows WHAT the Krabby has in this insane place..." he said.

((Krabby would have Bubble, Leer, Vicegrip, and Harden. Corphish has Bubble, Harden, Vicegrip, and Leer.))
The Pokeball hit the crayfish, rocked three times, and dinged shut, while Yanma dragged the sinking Krabby out of the marshy area. "<I think they heal better out of mud...>" He muttered.
Meanwhile, Lawrence's Pokedex came up with the stats for his new Pokemon. They were:
Corphish Gender: Male Level: 16 Group: 1 Nickname: whatever you want Ability: Hyper Cutter: attack cannot be lowered Attacks: Bubble, Harden, Vicegrip, Leer Personality: Cheerful and excited about everything. Not exactly sugar-high hyper, but just excited and optimistic. He's up for pretty much anything, and rarely complains. His favorite kind of battle is a double battle, so he can fight with a friend.

He grabbed the Pokèball and placed it on his belt before picking Bouncy back up.
"Hey, Yanma... Do you know what Pokèmon Matthew has?" he asked. "Or just the type?"

Yanma paused, and tried to remember what the trainers who failed to beat him the first time around had whined about. "<Type...either ground or rock. I remember people saying something about a rhyhorn that gave them some grief...>"

"That's all I needed to know." he said. "A friend of mine in Kanto said something about Ryhorns being pure evil..."
He continued on his path to getting his Pokèmon to the level cap before leaving.

Suddenly, the marshy area seemed to grow larger, and the air grew more humid. A mist fell around everything, and Yanma called, "<I can't see you...the mist must be really thick. Be careful to stay on the path, or you could fall in the mud and get stuck for hours!>"
Just then, a furry venonat hurled himself at Lawrence. "<I wanna fight a water-type!>" He whined. "<Send out a water-type!>"
Yanma looked in the direction he that Lawrence was in. "<I would train your water-types. You should probably have at least two for the gym...that, or grass-types. Your butterfree may be able to hold her own against one of Matthew's Pokemon, but you'll need type advantages for the other two.>"

"Yanma... Turn around... The mist isn't that thick, you're just facing backwards." said Law. "But that's a good idea."
He tossed out a Pokèball with a familiar cry, "Come on out, Marril!"
The blue mouse appeared in a flash.
"<Wow... Misty...>" commented the mouse.

The Venonat cried, "<aaaagh! Water-type!>" before promptly running forward with a Tackle towards the water mouse.
Lawrence's dragonfly companion turned around, frowning. "<I still can't see you...my eyes aren't that good at seeing through mist. That's why I don't like to battle; all the other yanma can see well in the mist, and I always get beaten,>" he explained sadly.

Marril was hit by the Tackle and sent flying backwards.
"Marril, Water Gun!" he commanded.
The mouse shot a jet of water from its mouth straight for the Venonat.

The venonat, who didn't have the best footing, was thrown backwards into the water. Sputtering to the top, he blindly scrabbled for something solid...but was promptly punted out of the water by some unseen territorial water-type.
He hit the ground, and stood up shakily. "<Water-types...are...eeeeeevil,>" he commented in a woozy tone.
