Fanfic, the lost part of the Greek alphabet. Yup. This is the alpha for my Sonic fanfic. More or less a history on my character, as requested by a friend of mine. The story of his creation, and what his life would be like if he made some... Different choices... It's all the same, aside from a few key areas, such as his meeting with his would-be girlfriend who died, his group who disbanded and never spoke again, yadda yadda... ON WITH THE SHOW! [end insanity]
He looked at the silver tags hanging from his neck, and thought what everyone thinks at least once in their life... "What if?" What if he'd made the right choices? What if he'd taken the offers he was given? What if he... As that last thought came through his mind, he shuddered. That may be a bit too much...
The black echidna sighed as he stood up. He just needed to clear his head... Yeah, that'd work... Rid himself of the thoughts of what he passed up, and move on. After all, we can't go back and fix our mistakes, can we?
Now, just hypothetically... What if we could? What if we royally screwed up and had to go back and fix it for the sake of the future? Well, this echidna is going to find out just that... What if?
The echidna looked at his tags once more. They read:
He hated it. Hated it with a passion. If he took them off, he'd have no memories, no identity, nothing. If he kept them on, he'd be forever tagged as one of Ivo Robotnik's foul experiments.
Zinoro headed toward the town he'd left. The town he'd lived in since Robotnik lost his trail. The town he has no choice but to protect now.
However, Zinoro was not alone. A dark being was tailing him. A few mumbled words escaped the being's lips just before Zinoro Rex disappeared... Forever.
... Alright, this story would be boring if that was true. He actually was transported elsewhere... Somewhere far away. Not just measured by miles, but by time. Zinoro Rex was transported back in time. Back to when his life first began...
Two red eyes opened and darted around. Through the thick green liquid, they took note of an entirely metalic area around them and a large, round man peering back at them.
The black echidna couldn't move. What was going on? What was happening? Why did it all seem so familiar? As it looked around the room to see if anything, anything at all could answer its questions, it spotted a screen. It could barely make out a much smaller black figure in a tube filled with green liquid staring back at it from within the screen. It had several metalic tubes attached to its head, chest, and back. Over its mouth was an oxygen mask.
"Is that... Me?" it thought silently. "It can't be..."
"Arise, my creation... It's time for your training exercises." stated the bald round man. "Fail me... And you will be eliminated."
The echidna was shocked at the last comment. Eliminated if he failed? That's a bit extreme... Soon after he finished that thought, the glass tube around him rose and the green liquid poured out. The metalic tubes detatched and the oxygen mask left his mouth. He fell to his knees, unprepared to be dropped from his floating position in the liquid. When the echidna stood, his legs felt like they were going to collapse at any second.
"Good... I'll give you a few moments to get accustomed to life outside the tube..." commented the round man. "I am your creator, Dr. Ivo Robotnik. And I have a gift for you..." The man placed a chain around Zinoro's neck. On it was a tag, which read:
"C... Creator?" asked Zinoro once he was able to stand fine. "Y... You MADE me?"
"That is correct, Zinoro."
"Zinoro... That is my name?"
"Correct... Now then, the door to your right is where you may pick up your uniform and your weapons... And those tags around your neck are not just for show... They are you." explained Robotnik. "If you take them off, you will be no one. You have no memories without them, you are nothing if you take them off."
Zinoro headed into the room on his right and grabbed a uniform. It consisted of a red shirt, a pair of red pants, a white jacket, a blue belt, and a pair of black boots. His weapons were next. They were a simple plasma blaster, standard-issue for all of Robotnik's recruits, and a dagger for close range combat. As he left the room, Robotnik pointed him to a room on the far end of the lab.
"That is the training center. You will spend the next seven months undergoing maximum difficulty training routines. These can harm you. They can kill you." explained Robotnik.
"Then why do you wish for me to train under such difficulty?" asked the echidna in a semi-monotone voice.
"Simple, Zinoro... You are my greatest creation, and I wish to test your power. You have a hidden ability, boy. I want to see it in action."
"I shall not fail you, creator." With that, Zinoro left for the room on the far end of the lab. Inside was a simple white room with four walls. Each of the walls had a basic Eggbot model drawn on them. Zinoro pressed one of them and the walls lowered, revealing a huge army of steel hammer weilding Eggbots.
Zinoro pummeled one of them, but to no avail. He was simply smacked away by the mallet. The echidna got back on his feet with little more than a minor scratch. He returned to pummeling the Eggbot, while the others closed in. He was soon surrounded by Eggbots. Each of them was beating him with their steel mallets.
Soon, Zinoro's eyes glowed a bright green color. Two of his spines shot upward and curved foreward into horns. His tail got longer and gained a slight hook. Zinoro sent a burst of energy through the room, blasting each of the Eggbots into the walls. He moved at nigh hypersonic speeds, ripping each of the Eggbots to scrap.
"Yes... Let the power of the Shadows run through you!" shouted Eggman from his control room high above the traning room.
Mere moments after losing control, the entire room was cleared of Eggbots and Zinoro collapsed.
"He could use a little work..." commeted Eggman. "But he will do just fine."
Over the next seven months, Zinoro fought harder and harder enemies, his fury gaining more and more power as the time went by. His patience with Robotnik was wearing thin. Zinoro had dug into Robotnik's files and found his countless defeats at the hands of the one called "Sonic the Hedgehog." The thought of a hedgehog defeating his creator sickened him.
On the night of his final training session, Zinoro fled the lab aboard Eggman's airship. He had been working on a lifeboat made from scraps around the base, and finally got it running. Once off the airship, Zinoro turned back and gave a slight chuckle, accompanied by one simple word, "Freedom."
Yeah, it needs a bit of expanding and stuff... But all in all, it's one of my better works... That's actually kinda sad...
