Ray was sent to the marble ground as he was shoved from behind. The short boy quickly recovered and stood up back on his two feet to find an overweight youngster that was around twelve - thirteen years of age looking down on him with challenging eyes. Ray blinked. He looked like one of the bullies that stole lunch from tiny kids at recess. Tiny kids like Ray to be precise. Oh, the ears of food-snatching.


"Shut it, kid! Your voice is making my ears bleed! Man, whatta gay song. Did you like, hear it from an anime that was from the 90s or something? Well, anyways, you shouldn't be here in the first place, go play on the swings or something," the chubby kid mocked the petite one with a smirk as he rested his arms on his waist, showing of a Pokeball that Ray figured contained his starter, his first Pokémon. Probably the reason why the chubby kid was here in the first place.


Ray gasped.

"I made that song, okay! It's awesome and purely original. You're just jealous of it," Ray accused pointing at the plum boy. "And I'm not a kid! I'm like, eleven-years old," the ginger-haired boy stated pouting. The kid in return quietly blinked a couple of times before responding.



And then pointed and laughed at him. Ray didn’t want his awesome day to be spoiled by some.. Loser fat kid! He had to shut up him. Oh yeah, it’s on now, fatty.

"Well, your fat!"

The fat kid stopped laughing and looked at Ray seriously.

"Well, your short and big-headed, dumb midget."

And then he started laughing again.

"Your dumber, dummy!"

"Uh, no, you are dumber."

"No! You're like, the dumbest dumb dumbing person to exist in the dumb-dumber land, ever!"

"… That didn't even make sense. No0b."




Silence.



".. Well, you stink!" and with that Ray dashed inside the elevator and quickly pressed the buttons (there was a memo posted on the elevator explaining what each floor consisted of in the building), thankfully the elevator closed before the fat kid could recover from catching his breath since laughing so hard and say something mean to him again. He was just jealous. Yeah, that's right. Jealous from Ray's awesome theme song.


Ray continued to hum his awesome new song until the elevator stopped at the eight floor. As the elevator opened Ray looked around to find boring white walls. The sun shined in through from a nearby window and Ray winced. Everything was so weird to him. Like, people actually did work and stuff in the morning? Don’t they ever feel sleepy? Ray shrugged the thought and walked on. The short boy hurried towards the wooden door and slammed his fist onto the lab door like, five times since he was really excited about getting his very own Pokémon. He sure hope he wasn't late because of that fat boy.

He'll show his sister that he can be a better Pokémon trainer than her! He'll show her for sure! Oh, and that fat boy from a while back too.

The glass doors of the reception area opened with a squeaky clean hiss. A black haired man with a clean shaven face looked up from his computer, although his attention was directed at a Seviper. "Fuuko, I don't believe this is an accurate representation of scientists at all! I'm ashamed that someone believed that we could build something that would break in such a way. "We do what we must because we can"?! Who would build an AI that could think like that? And the clear psychological games played with the so-called companion cube. Highly unethical. Where did you dig up this simulator?"

<It'sss not -- never mind,> the seviper sighed, slithering up to the counter. <Hello young man, welcome to the Ruby Ccccity Lab. You're here for your firsssst pokemon, aren't you? Do you have one in mind, already?>

Ray blinked at the dark-haired man sitting on his computer. He said something science-y to the Seviper that Ray couldn't really understand at all. But boy, did it sound smart! Ray was very impressed by this unknown man.


The short boy was soon greeted by a Seviper that had slithered its way to the reception counter. "You're really cool-looking, did you know that?" Ray commented gawking at the snake Pokémon as it settled itself. Ray hadn’t really seen a Seviper before so he didn’t know what to expect. He wanted to poke the Seviper on his head but decided against it when the Seviper opened his mouth to talk, Ray had noticed the razor-sharp fangs that were sticking out of his mouth.


"Um, yeah. I'm here for my first Pokémon," Ray replied nodding. ".. I don't really know what I want, really," the ginger-haired boy admitted as the Seviper asked the boy his preference. "I mean, I don't know much about Pokémon, I just saw some Pokémon battles on TV from time to time; I think that was it," he said with a shrug.


Ray pulled his head closer to the snake and whispered in a very low-pitched voice, "is that a bad thing?"

<It's okay, honey,> Fuuko replied in a motherly tone. <Jusssst ssso you know, you can have a choice of about 13 to 15 ssstarterz. Along with your ssssstarter, you get to choose a pokedex -- they are on that wall over there,> Her tail jerked to the right. <Also, there are the 3 potions, and five pokeballs that you'll need, of course.>

"The list of starters aviliable is on the wall to the left," Professor Cerasus said, nodding to a chart next to a neatly labeled rack of pokeballs. "You have a choice between slugma, corphish, bellsprout, magnemite, rattata, grimer, meditite, sunkern, shuppet, electrike, charmander, totodile, and turtwig. If none of these appeal to you we can add two more random starters to the list. Just choose a letter, and then the base form of a random pokemon who starts with that letter will be added to the list. Also, you may take the type quiz, and recieve a pokemon of the type that you generate due to your answers. The quiz sheets are over there," He pointed at a neat stack on the long counter that separated Ray from the back of the lab.

The Seviper directed Ray towards the Pokedexes on the wall but he ignored them for now as the snake Pokemon told him about the starters and explained the procedure, him how he he had to choose one Pokemon from the list or choose a random letter, AND/OR do this quiz to pick his very first partner on his very first journey.

Oh, how exciting that sounds!



The little boy was actually more confused than ever though, he could only recall Bellsprout, Rattata, Magnemite, and Charmander. Only because they were mostly used or seen in daily day-to-day events. Magnemites were usually there for mantaining the electricity around towns, Charmanders were usually with carpenters and people who made sculptures out of glass and other stuff, Bellsprout and Rattata were present, everywhere! After a little while of thinking Ray decided to try his luck at the other two options.

"Oh, for the letter thingy, um, how about a Pokemon that starts with R? My name starts with R, you see," a sly smile appeared on the boy's face. "Oh, and here, I filled the quiz thing!" Ray handed over the quiz with a sheepish smile plastered on his face.

((Okay, note, this was a tough decision, because the pokemon you got in the letter answer was rare (like, not a legendary, but so close, it almost was), and only found in Platinum. However, after examining its moveset (not brilliant), and stats, and knowing that you're a good RPer, I decided to add it into your choices of starters.))

"All right," Professor Cerasus took his quiz, and then nodded. "Okay, and while we're waiting for the computer to find an "r" pokemon, let's review this. Hmm, far away, strong, night time, cold colors -- sounds to me like the water type, squirtle. Well, you now have a choice of those and -- oh my word," he paused, and stared at the computer. "Well, we do have one of these -- but, well -- all right. You can have a rotom added to your starter list. I'm currently studying one of the alternate Sinnoh formes, the "cut" forme to be exact. You would be able to take that as your starter -- but I warn you, it is very rare, and people might be jealous. You certainly will have Jentan collectors breathing down your neck."

Ray nodded as the professor told him his quiz resulted to a Squirtle. Ray knew what a Squirtle was, he had seen one on numerous occasions. That wouldn't be a bad choice, actually if that Pokemon fit his quiz answers then that must be the Pokemon for him, right? Maybe he should just go with that, or maybe a Charmander would be a better choice? Fire, water, fire, water, fire, wa --

Ray's thoughts were interrupted by the professor's loud reaction. Ray blinked and cocked his head to the side to get a better view of what the professor was looking at in his bright screen. It was a tiny orange thing with blue stuff coming from it. Huh, it was kind of cute. What was it? A what? B-bottom?

Ray didn't get what he meant by 'cut form' but that wasn't important, the professor said he was rare and that people would be jealous. Wouldn't that mean his sister would, too!? And since he's rare he's probably very strong as well, judging from the professor's reaction and all this had to be the coolest Pokemon ever, his first Pokemon.


"I'll take it, the um, R thing!" Ray immediately spoke up pointing at it. "I choose that one, I promise to take real good care of it," the little boy flashed the biggest most brightest (and fakest) grin of his life.

"Well, all right," Professor Cerasus looked uncertain, but he shrugged, and regained his normally formal expression. "In that case, I shall give you the rotom. I warn you, it's not a strong pokemon, and will probably only be useful early on. On the up side, it does have an advantage against the gym, due to its type: electric/ghost."

He walked over to the shelf, and brought out a pokeball, which he handed to Ray. Behind him, one of the seviper brought over a yellow pokedex, which it laid on the counter. Professor Cerasus walked over to the side shelf, and came back with five empty pokeballs, and three potions. "5000 pyen is wired to your account automatically," the Tejan professor began. "Now, do you have a plan of action? Most people head to the battle simulator in the Kobayashi building."

Personality: Carefree and hyper, this little ghost loves to zoom around, and surprise people at odd moments by jumping out behind them and saying boo. He sometimes gets down if they aren't surprised, but he's young, and can get over it, quickly.

Ray excitedly checked out his yellow Pokedex as the Seviper placed it on the counter. The short boy immediately opened it and tested it by looking up the snake Pokemon on it. Soon the Seviper's image flashed on the screen and a deep feminine voice explained the Pokemon.

"Seviper, huh?.. Awesooo~me!"


Ray quickly stuffed all the items including the Pokedex inside his backpack. His eyes widened as he laid his eyes on his Pokeball that layed idly on the counter's base. He quickly swooped it up and examined it in his hands tossing from one side to another, he really couldn't believe he had just recieved his first Pokemon ever! And tossing Pokeballs was fun, he was going to love being a Pokemon trainer!

Without even listening to the professor in all the excitement the boy nodded enthusiasticly, his eyes glued to the Pokeball. "Yes, yes. I promise to take care of it! Bye sir, bye Seviper!" Ray cried out happily and ran for the exit, slamming his face against the glass door on his way as he ran out of the building.


Once he was out Ray decided to finally introduce himself to his very first, super awesomely cool and strong Pokemon. The capped boy pressed the obvious button and a crimson light emitted from the white and red ball. Ray was taken back by the sudden burst and tripped. Ray heard a laughter, he immediately got on his feet and observed his surroundings to see the source of laughter but found nothing. Odd.

"Hey, where are you!?" Ray asked himself more than his first Pokemon as he looked around. Great, the little guy wanted to play hide and seek. "No time for playing, mister! I need to name you and see you and know you and.. And some more Stuff! Hey, where the hell ar -- !"

<BOO!>



Ray let out a scream.

Pantpant.

"Don't do that!" Ray pointed still panting at the tiny creature who flew in midair, laughing uncontrollably at his trainer and bouncing from place to another.

<I said boo and you got scared! Scaredy Meowth~, scaredy Meowth!~ Ahahaha! You're so funny, human!>

"Whatever.. " Ray muttered and took out his Pokedex to get some information on the cheerful Pokemon. The tiny screen flashed the Pokemon's image and gave off some information.

"Oh, so you're an electric/ghost type Pokemon? What the heck is that suppose to mean?... Anyways, my name is Ray not human --"


Gasp.

<Not human!?>

"No, Ray. I mean, yes, I am a human but my name is Ray! But You can call me Chibi!" The newbie trainer introduced himself with a confident smile.

<Chibi, Chibi, Chibi!~ Boobooboo~> The pokemon danced happily in midair, Ray wasn't sure if this Rottom was paying attention to what he was saying.

"... You like saying boo a lot, don't you?"

The Pokemon stopped dancing, <Yes, sir Chibi!! I love boo. Do you love boo? I think everyone loves boo!>

".. Uh, right. I guess I'll just name you Boo, then. Boo," Ray decided. "Is that okay? Do you like being called Boo?"

<Boo! I love boo! Boo, boo, boo!>

The Rottom flew towards its trainer and cuddled into the little boy's chest for a short period and quickly broke free and ran ahead.

<C'mon, sir Chibi! Let's go, go, go!> the orange Pokemon shouted and flew to a distance.


This was going to be a pain. Ray sighed, "wait up, Boo! You can't just like.. Go like that!"



After chasing the Rottom for about forty minutes Ray found himself infront of the Chiiaka Building or the Breeding Building as it said on the huge sign. The little boy tried to catch his breath and quickly recalled his Rottom inside its Pokeball when he had the chance.

"That's enough of playing around, Boo. I'm tired," The boy said weakly as the pouting Rottom was once again sucked inside the tiny, compact ball. The ball shook violently for a short period of time and Ray freaked out, but it eventually calmed down. Ray sighed in relief. This was the price to pay for an awesomely super cool Pokemon.


Ray looked around to find himself making his way in the lobby of the Breeding building. Ray shrugged, might as well check it out. He waved at the person behind the counter in a friendly manner.

"Uh, hi!"

The guy behind the counter shifted nervously, and sat up straighter. He didn't think he needed to be official for thise kid, but this was his first job, and the young receptionist didn't want to blow it. "Hi, er, hello, welcome to the Chiiaka Building -- Ruby City's breeding center. Do you have a question or comment you would like to ask, or, um, make? Or are you here on professional breeding business?"

Ray rubbed his chin in thought. Breeding centers were.. Centers where people breeded Pokemon, that he even knew as there was one in back in Xyno Town.


That's right! A breeding center has Pokemon that hatch from eggs and are up for adoption. Ray could get another member of the team if it suited his budget, of course. Hm, don't trainers first try to catch Pokemon in the wild before adopting one?

Shrugshrug.


"I'd like to adopt a Pokemon! I'm a newbie trainer you see, and I need to built a strong team to take the first Gym leader down," Ray explained himself excitedly, eyes wide-open with a bright grin.

"I want to know what Pokemon you guys offer."

[Nyaa-Neko]

The receptionist tried to go through the list in his head, just because whipping out one of the brochures for his own reference seemed a little unprofessional, but then gave up. He had no idea what all the prices were, other than the fact that most (if not all) new trainers couldn't afford to buy the baby eevees, and if there was one thing he was scared from, it was an eevee enthusiast lead down the wrong path.

The boy sheepishly grabbed one of the brochures, and opened it to the summary page with the breeds and prices of the Pokemon sold in the building - though he made sure to tilt it towards Ray, as if only to use the paper as an extra image in his "well rehearsed" mini-presentation.

"The breeders in this building sell these Pokemon to the general public, all at level 5, all available in both genders - except the smoochum, of course," he added, his eyes quickly flicking over to the pink image halfway down the line. "Our most practical babies are the machops, at the cheapest price of 2500 pyen. They're really good against the gym, and pretty useful later on. We also have elekids, magbies, and smoochums available for 3000 pyen, though they take a bit more training than the machop to really be useful early on, since they're usually more immature. Lastly, we have eevees, but since they're harder to breed, they go for 7500 pyen, so I doubt you'd be able to afford one now."

[Gasp.]


Ray nodded as he was told the list of available Pokemon. This person sure sounded smart! Hmm, if he only knew what to pick. He hadn't heard of most of them, he actually only knew Machop but that's because he saw this Gym battle once back in Xyno Town long time ago. The trainer had a Machamp and it managed to beat the Xynonian Gym leader pretty easily.

That was it, a Pokemon as strong as Machamp would surely kick his sister's butt. Ray would just have to raise the Machop to be a strong Machamp. Uwahahah!~ Ray was such a genious.

"I'd like a Machop, please. Oh, and I want it to be a guy.. And um, I'll deal with any personality available!"

Gringrin.


Nothing can be as weird as Boo now, can it?

The boy stared at him. "Uh...I'm just the, um, receptionist-type guy. The room where you wanna actually buy a machop is, uh," he turned around so he could glance at the various doors, "that one." He jabbed his finger in the direction of the door with the orange-brown fighting fist symbol. "Just go through there and find one of the breeders."

((Oh - and I'm mostly stalling...do you want ANY male machop, like...a random one, or do you want to pick one from a couple personalities?))

Ray blinked.

"Oh.. Oops, sorry. I'll go to that room you pointed at now. Thanks Mister!"


Taptaptaptap. Chibi person walking.


Ray inspected the fighting symbol on the door. Just by gawking at the fighting symbol, the little boy felt all strong and pumped up like he could take on anyone - even an onix. He started raising his arms and showing off his invisible muscles in his reflection at the glass door until some people caught a sight of him doing so and started pointing and laughing at him going "how cute!".

Ray snorted, embarassed, and ran inside.


"I want a machop!!"

"All right," a young breeder in a red apron handed over a clip board, and got out a pokeball. He wasn't sure if he was forgetting something, but that possibility could be sorted out later. "Just sign here. This machop is male with a lax nature, do you want him?"

Personality: Very easy going and kind of lazy, he loves to eat, and is more concerned about living comfortably, than the next battle.

Ray thanked the Machop person and ran to the building where you get to train pokemon. He went to the first floor and started dancing, waiting for wild pokemon to attack him.






[... Ahem.]

A secretary peered up from a desk at the boy. "Are you lost?" she asked, putting aside her crossword after she noticed Ray had been standing still for an inordinately long period of time. "This is the Kobayashi building. We have sentret on the second floor, wurmple on the third, the fourth is reserved for poochyena, on the fifth floor we keep mankey, starly on sixth, and gastly reside on the seventh floor," she told him in a smoothly rehearsed voice. "Just take the elevator."

[-Realized he's been shamelessly ignoring Ray-]

Ray blinked at the woman behind the counter, "right, I knew that. Thanks lady!"

The hooded kid ran inside the elevator and punched the button that led to the seventh floor where the ghostly were. Ray always wanted to see a ghostly, he just loved haunter and the way they laughed. The elevator's door automatically closed shut and Ray figured it was time to take out his pokemon and train them, not to mention introduce himself to his new pokemon! He finally had a machop like he wanted.

The short boy hesitated and let out his rotom and machop. Both the pokeballs that Ray held opened from between, two red beams hit the surface and out came two of his only pokemon.

<Boo! Chibi-chan, it's you again!> the plasma cried out excitedly. Ray nodded while scratching the back of his head, a sheepish grin appearing on his face. The boy wasn't sure if he was really up to handling the hyperactive pokemon, he was quite very intimidated and wondered if he made a big mistake in choosing his very first pokemon.

A gray-colored superpower pokemon appeared beside the rotom, its muscles folded across its chest, <I'm hungry.>

Ray's eyes squinted at the machop, "um, nice to meet you too? My name's Ray, by the way--"

<Hungry. I can't think, talk, or movie when I'm hungry. I haven't had anything since morning..>

".. Riiight, I have some pokechow, I guess I'll give some to you too, Boo. You two must be pretty hungry."

<Yay! Food! I like food! Everyones loves food! Hi, new friend!>

<Nice sparks.>

Ray got some pokemon food out of his pack and fed the two team mates. Ray nervously laughed as he saw the two pokemon swallowing the food without taking any break to breathe.

"Um, okay, My name is Ray, but you can call me Chibi if you want. Everyone does. And I guess I'll just call you Big Guy. Because you're suppose to be strong and good at fighting, atleast I saw that on tv -- or something," Ray trailed off as he saw the machop finish his food and let out a big burp.

<Ahh~ That felt good. I don't really mind about my name, whatever you just said is fine, whatever your name was. Can I sleep now?>

<Yay! Nap time!>

"No, not nap time! We're going to train now to get you guys strong enough to beat the first gym leader. And see ghastly, I like ghastly."

<Strong? I'm strong!>

<Ugh, fine.. But I need proper resting and food, afterwards.>

The elevtaor's door slided open and Ray entered the area with a shake of his head. This was going to be hard, but he wasn't going to give up - even though he had the weirdest pokemon in the world. He was definately going to try hard to become strong so he can be the best deformed pokemon trainer in existence!

The seventh floor was dim with wooden paneling that hid a network of disorienting electronic sensors so the gastly here could not just phase directly out of the building. Gastly had nasty senses of humor, generally, and no one liked the idea of a city full of mischief-making gastly.

However, the seventh floor was fairly devoid of life, from what could be seen. Or that could just have been because gastly were playing at being invisible. That is, until one came up behind Ray, and began to chew on his hood.

<Mmm, tastes cottony,> the gastly hissed.
