This time, Hera used an ember attack on the vines, since that would do more damage.

Tangela sighed. My vines don't take as much damage...why am I even bothering with this battle? she wondered as she withdrew her singed vines, rolled in the dirt, regained her Ingrain-health, and stood up again. Her health levels were sort of low, so she went in for an Absorb, even though it wouldn't pull much out of the torchic.
But at least it would pull SOME out, and she figured she could probably outlast the fire-type anyway, what with all the health she was regaining.

That was what Rain was waiting for, the problem with opponents is that they usualy make a mistake like going in for a close attack, that was what she waited for. "Now Hera, use ember!" She commands, and the Torchic attacks the Tangela with a blast of fire.
(I figure that based on the distance, ember loses some of its power, so if Hera uses it at close range...)

Tangela withdrew her vines at once, and though one ember hit her body, rolling on the ground and Ingrain kept her health from going down too low. She then decided to go back to Constrict, where she could cut off Hera's air supply somewhat.
Meanwhile, another barboach crept up stealthy to Rain, bopped Lombre's Pokeball off her belt, shrieked "<I CHALLENGE YOU TO A BATTLE!>" and promptly Mud Slapped her.
((w007, two battles at once...))

"Fine, Lombre use absorb on that one, Hera, use scratch again!" Rain commands, and the two pokemon launch their attacks (naturaly Hera aiming at the tentacles heading for her).

Tangela's tentacles which were wrapped tightly around the chick winced as they took a full on Scratch, but never let go. She merely tightened her hold, hoping to immobilize and slow down her foe. She shot her other tentacles into the ground, replenishing part of her health with Ingrain, and the stinging in some of her other tentacles died down a bit.
The barboach cried out as Lombre bit down on her side, stealing some of her health when she didn't even need any! She then retaliated with a Mud Slap, aiming to get it in the eyes and cut down on her foe's accuracy.

(Yeah, that does seem a little selfish, but I couldn't think of any other attacks.)
"Lombre, Astonish, Hera, ember!" Rain commands.
(This is even weirder than the gym battle.)

The barboach winced as she was hit, but couldn't exactly do much after that. Stupid flinching, she thought angrily.
The Tangela, also, felt like maybe Ingrain wasn't doing enough when she realized she sustained a burn from the horrible onslaught of tiny fireballs, and all the health she absorbed from the ground went to negating the health she lost from the burn. So she angrily used Absorb, regaining a tiny bit more, though not nearly enough.

Tangela pulled back one of her vines, which was the only unlucky one to be hit by the ember. Constrict was working some, at least...though she still felt weaker. Stupid burn for canceling out her Ingrain...she pulled her vines tighter in Constrict, hoping that Hera would faint before she did. They were both suffering so little each turn...
Meanwhile, the barboach STILL couldn't move, even though he felt okay. It really annoyed him more than anything else. "<Stupid Lombre,>" he muttered. "<What are you, a coward?>"

(Constrict isn't a continuous attack, that's Wrap, but okay.)
"Hera, try to free yourself by using ember on the vines," Rain says. "Lombre, use Absorb!"

((I know, but her tentacles are still out there...so I figured she wouldn't have to do much.))
The tangela winced as the weak ember hit her vines, but kept them around the chick, and tightened them in another Constrict. "<Stupid...little...fire...Pokemon,>" she panted, squinting her eyes in pain and concentration.
The barboach, however, just fainted, since the double-weakness was too much. However, the source of the attack sent the split-type flying into the shallow waters of the high-tide marsh, and she sank out of sight.
Rain's Pokedex beeped, indicating that her level 17 Lombre just defeated a level 18 barboach, allowing her to gain two levels. It then switched screens, and displayed the now level 19 Lombre's attacks (Astonish, Growl, Absorb, Nature Power) as well as another one, Fake Out. It told her that Lombre could only know four attacks, and would she like her to forget one and learn Fake Out instead?

"Hmm, Hera, use another ember attack on that Tangela while I think this over," she says. Hmm, Fake out's not a bad move, but it only works once, right after I let Lombre out, so what to do? she thinks, and shrugs, selecting the option to not learn fake out.
(To be honest, Fake Out annoys me.)

Tangela then, right after throwing more vines around the chick in yet another Constrict, threw herself to the side. She rolled into the marsh, pulling Hera down with her.
As if other Pokemon knew how long such a battle took, they gathered around Rain. One, a krabby, scuttled over to the girl.
"<If you're training...that battle's going to take awhile, unless that vine-thing just knocked out your chick-thing,>" he explained with a snap of his large claws. "<Would you like to train somebody against me in the meantime?>"

"Hera, return, this battle isn't worth risking your safety, I forfeit," Rain says, recalling Hera, before turning to the Krabby. "Go Lombre!" she says, letting out her Lombre. "Start with Nature Power!"

Mud shot up all around Krabby, and he was buffetted quite thoroughly. After digging himself out with his large claws, he scuttled over to the side of Lombre, opening his claws as far as they would go. Then he gave a side-ways jump, turning himself to a position where both claws would hit a different part of Lombre's body in a Vicegrip.
