Naolin had had sugar for breakfast that morning. That seems a rather odd way to start one's journey, but sugar was good for you. At least, the way she say it. Unfortunately, sugar has that tiny side effect called hyper-ness. As Naolin walked up to the Lab, she was deep in thought which was rather extraordinary for one such as herself. "Should I chose a Dratini? They're powerful, and cool, and dragon types, so maybe if I evolved one I'd get to see...But wait! What about Pichu. So small and cute, and yellow and squeaky, and- Oh, but then there's Mudkip. So cute, and it's a water type, so it can come sailing with me, and help pull the boat when it evolves, and-But what about Sandshrew? Sugoi, with sand attacks, and claws, and maybe it could dig tunnels for me, and we could have fun...Or Swinub, with it's fur, and pig nose, and snuffling, and-" Wham! She'd been so busy thinking, she'd walked right into the front door. "Oww..." she whined, rubbing her nose. 'That hurt. Well, looks like I'm here." So saying, she opened the door and went inside. "Hello, Professor? I'm here about my first Pokemon..."

The Professor, trying to ignore the two over-affectionate Ekans hanging off his shoulder and neck, strut over to her. He bowed slightly, obviously somewhat tense over the snakes.
"Hello, I am Professor Cherry, as you probably already know. And, unless my assumption is incorrect, you are a new trainer here to pick up the perfect partner to journey with you...?"
He left off right there, prompting her to introduce herself. The Ekans around his neck hissed contentedly, while the one draped over his shoulder hung there limply, but obviously stuck in blissful heaven.

"Oh, um..." Naolin was a bit flustered by the odd behavior of the Ekans, but she quickly got over it. "Um yes. My name's Naolin, and I'm from Slateport. I was wondering, I mean, could I have a Sandshrew?"

"A Sandshrew?" The Professor raised an eyebrow, temporarily speechless. For a few moments, the only sound was from the Ekans around his neck--the same contented hissing.
"Ah, I'm sorry, Naolin, but those are rather rare around these parts, with the humidity levels...but, if you're truly sure you'd like one...how could I be sure you are ready for such a, um, special pokemon?" He asked, blinking as he pushed his glasses back onto the bridge of his nose.

"Well, although I have more experiance with water Pokemon, I'm sure I could take good care of Sandshrew. I know they like to burrow, and they're mostly desert Pokemon, their bodies absorb water, so they can live in dry places, and they've got a pretty good defense. I think it would be great to have one as my partner."

"Actually, miss Naolin, that is a common myth. Sandshrew do live in dry places, but it's not because their bodies absorb water. True, they do absorb more than the average pokemon, but they actually survive by digging themselves small wells to drink from. Plus, spending the day underground, it's relatively moist & cool, so that helps them to retain more water." Professor Cherry said, like a well-rehearsed little scientist should. He blinked, as if realized that he had just talked for a good five minutes, then cleared his throat awkwardly.
"I shall tell you what. You seem to be a well-informed young lady, so I'll give you a small quiz on Sandshrew, to see if you are capable of raising one. Should you fail, you simply get another pokemon and perhaps catch a Sandshrew later on. Should you pass, I will give you your new partner, your customary five pokeballs & your PokeDex without any more fuss."

"Oh, well, you certainly know a lot about Sandshrew...Alright, I'll take this quiz."

"I know a lot about most pokemon." The Professor stated confidently. It wasn't a brag; as a pokemon scientist, he had to in order to keep his job. Clearing his throat again, he continued. "There will be...how about five questions? You have to get all five correct in order to get the Sandshrew."

"Alright, sure. I'm an expert!" cried Naolin, striking a dramatic pose. (remember, she had sugar)

Professor Cherry smiled slightly. This girl was either hyper, high, drunk, or extremely confident. As an afterthought, he hoped dearly that it wasn't the second or third choice.
"First question. What element(s) is(or are) Sandshrew? An example would be that a Sandshrew is a grass & psychic pokemon. Please answer in that format." He stated importantly, absentmindedly stroking the Ekans on his shoulder.

"Correct." The Professor stated. "Second question. What does Sandshrew evolve into, how many evolutions in it's chain, and how?"

"Sandshrew evolves into Sandslash, there's only one evolution, that, and I'm pretty sure it evolves normally, at level 22."

"Correct on all counts." The Professor said, "All right then, picture this: you and your Sandshrew have just been attacked by a wild Goldeen. Would you recall Sandshrew, and why?"

"Um, you'd recall it because Sandshrew is a ground type, and weak against water types like Goldeen."

"Ah, good. That's perfect. I believe that you'd do well with a Sandshrew!" The Professor stated, "So... did you have any personality in mind? The Pokemon here are always a mixed bunch of personalities."

Naolin practically beamed. She enjoyed quizzes, and she'd aced this one. "Um, well, I know I want a loyal one, someone who's not cynical, and not homicidal. (Like Spaz.XD) But do you have some I can look at?"
(Woo, I've always wanted to do the choice thing)

(*giggles* There can only be one Spaz. *noddles*)
"Ah, well, I have two that would fall into that category. The last one... gave a death-threat to the last beginning trainer who came across, so let's just ignore that one, shall we?" Professor Cherry laughed nervously and walked over to a shelf, looked at it for a moment, and then picked out two Pokeballs and tossed them. Two Sandshrew materialized in front of Naolin. "Go ahead and take your time with them." He said.

(I'll act them out, so you can do the question thingy. ^-^ Wait-when you say question thingy, do you mean your character asks the questions, and the Pokemon answer, and they reveal little quirks in their personality while doing so?)
