A slender girl of about 5'7 was wondering down the road to the Pokemon lab. A faint smile was given upon her features, her brown hair blowing gently in the breeze. Green eyes accentuated by her dark black eyeliner darted around, observing the scenery.
This was it, a brand new day. She was slightly happy, but slightly sad. She was leaving home from her mother whom was now alone since the death of her father. But it was her mother who had urged her to go out on her own now, and she always took her mothers advice.
Slowly, she came upon the lab. Knocking on the door, she rocked back and forth on her heels. She then put her hands into the back pockets of her black jeans, idly standing there.

Professor Cherry sighed, as he walked behind the two ekans who were slithering over the gravely road of Route One.
"You know, I'm probably the only person in the universe who has to take his snakes for a walk," he told the air idly.
Haru chuckled hissingly, <You were the one who wanted to introduce Sinnoh pokemon into route 1, so you're the one who has to walk to Sapphire City to talk to Arisa about it. You should feel honored that we decided to come along.>
"Oh yeeees," the professor rolled his eyes. "You two only came because you were getting as pudgy as a buizel lolling around all day."
<Snakes were built to loll,> Hana told the professor with dignity, before raising her head. <Hurry up, will you? There is a trainer waiting at the door.>
Both she hand her mate slithered faster, and the elderly professor picked up his pace as well. He was panting by the time he trotted up to Kristina, and fumbled through his pocket for a key.
"Good morning, Miss," he wheezed. "I'm sorry, I was out. You haven't been waiting long, have you?"

She shook her head, eyeing the two other Pokemon then the Professor. "No, not at all." she said in a quiet voice, looking him over. "I'm here for a starter Pokemon.." She finally mustered enough courage to say, without being asked what she was even doing here in the first place.
Her eyes gave a nervous glance, but she offered a faint smile so she didn't look quite stupid. Oh gosh, I'm going to ruin things. She thought idly to herself, hoping she didn't make a bad impression.

"I thought you must be, I thought you must be," the professor relied affably. The key was fitted in the lock, and the door opened with a click. Hana and Haru slithered into the warm sunlit shadows of the lab, and Professor Cherry followed. "Do come in. I'm Professor Cherry, and welcome to the Jentan Lab. Do come in. Have you any idea which starter you would like? The list is on the back wall there," he waved vaguely with his right hand in the direction of the list. It was also posted outside, so she had probably already had a chance to read it. "Please remember," he added, though, just in case she had a starter so firmly in mind that no other would do for her, "the group one starter that you pick will help determine your group two and three pokemon. If you're curious as to how here's that pamphlet on the starter groups. Mainly we try to see that there is balance between your team members." She nodded, listening to him very carefully. She had never heard of a system quite like this, but she liked it a whole lot better. "Hm." She pondered, wondering what to choose from the Available Pokemon list.
"I think I'd like a Poochenya?" She finally said, after a good pause. She had to think it over carefully though. She didn't want to end up with a partner she wouldn't of liked to travel with.

((Hi, Kristen. ^_^ I'm Nyaa, current head admin, and welcome to Jenta. Oh, and yay...I like poochyena. So I approve this thread! X3 ))
The professor nodded. "Poochyena are great Pokemon to start with. Do you have a gender and personality in mind? I can't guess at what you'd like, but if you tell me, I can usually find something to fit, eh? Or I could just bring out a couple poochyena, and see how you like 'em."

((^^ Heya! Yay! I'm glad you approve. :3))
Wow, and to think Kristen had almost forgotten this part of the process. Thinking for a moment, she knew she had wanted a male, but as far as personality went she was pretty clueless!
"Male.." she finally mentioned, and was still thinking about the personality. "I'd like him to be Timid, please." She nodded, suggesting that he should be like her. Hopefully then they would get along.

The professor nodded. "We have one exactly like that I can get for you. He's very sweet, though extremely shy. It takes a little while for him to open up, but he's very friendly around people he knows and feels comfortable with. Now then, I have one more decision for you to make."
He lead the girl over to a table with an array of differently-colored Pokedexes. "In Jenta, we use Pokedexes to not only store data on the Pokemon you capture, but alert you when your Pokemon gains a level, learns a new move, or evolves. They also have a GPS system in them, so we know where you are in case of an emergency. Now then, we have a variety of colors - pink, red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, purple, and brown. For some reason, we just ran out of greyscale colors...sorry about that. You can always jazz up your Pokedex with stickers if you don't like the color..."

Taking a look at all the Pokedex colors, she was amazed at what all they could do. Technology had improved so much these days, she thought to herself. "I'd like dark blue." she chimed in after the Professor was done talking. Blue was her favorite color, especially the dark blue.

((Okay...this is the last post I need to make here...so it's going to be really long. ^_^;; I suggest you at least skim it, since I do offer recommendations as to which route you start out with. Generally speaking, Route 1 is the hardest, Route 3 sort of depends on your Pokemon (it's either easy or medium difficult), and Route 5 is the easiest. Yet, for some reason, people usually choose Route 1...which is why people actually lose against Arisa. X3
Looking at your starters...I'd say Route 3 or 5 would be the best. Plus, Route 5 is so lonely...T_T))
The professor grinned as he took the dark blue Pokedex off the table. "Dark blue is one of our most popular colors; you should be happy you got one, since we usually run out. Now, if you'll please excuse me, I need to go put your starter package together. Wait a moment, eh." With that, he shuffled out of the cluttered main room and into the even more cluttered back room.
Three crashes, two shrieks of pain, and one rather startled-looking azurill later, the professor emerged, looking a little singed. He had a lumpy brown paper package in his hands, which he then thrust out for Kristen to take.
Professor Cherry prodded the package as he began to explain its contents. "Alright, girl, this is your starter package. Inside, you'll find your dark blue Pokedex, a bag of assorted berries for en route healing, a wallet with 5000 pyen - that's the Jenta currency, five empty Pokeballs, and three filled ones. One contains your level 5 Group 1 starter, your poochyena that you asked for. Another contains your level 25 Group 2 starter, and the third contains your level 45 Group 3 Pokemon." He straightened up. "Now then, follow me to the map and I'll show you your final choice."
He lead the girl to a large map of Jenta displayed on one of the walls. Professor Cherry prodded a dot near the west coast that was labeled "Jenta Laboratory". "This is where we are right now. As you can see, there are three routes leading away from it, one going east, one going south, and one going north. Each of them is effectively a single-group route, so choose one based on which of your starters you want to use first. However, you can still use your other Pokemon, as Jenta has a multitude of 'other places' you can train in."
He then dragged his finger along the eastbound route. "This is Route 1, a road that takes you east to Sapphire City. It also has a turnoff to the Mushroom Forest. There are only Group 1 Pokemon here, so your poochyena will be seeing all the action. However, Pokemon with an advantage against Arisa's ice-types are few and far-between, and unless you have a gym challenge team comprised solely of Pokemon with either an advantage offensively or defensively against ice-types and water-types...it's very hard to win on your first try. I don't know if I recommend this route as a first route, since it's easier once you have more practice and a more varied team."
The finger went back to the laboratory dot, then down along the southbound route. "This is Route 3, which takes you down south to Florak Town. It's a straightforward road that takes you through three different environments - mountainous, forest, and grasslands. Along the way, you can catch flying-types to help you offensively and grass-types to help you defensively against Botan's grass-types...plus, your Group 2 starter should have very few problems. I would recommend this route."
Finally, he traced the roads back to the laboratory, then upwards. "Your last choice is Route 5. Route 5 takes you north to the Jentan mountain range, then inside the mountains via the Sunstone Tunnel. The first gym here is in the Settlement of Nga, which is underground and inside the mountains. There you will do battle against Bahati's steel-types. Although your Group 3 starter may have a difficult time there, his maneuverability and egg move of Fire Fang should make him good a good lead for your team. Back him up with a fire-type and a ground-type, both of which are common among the rugged mountains, and you should have very few problems. I would recommend this route as well."
Professor Cherry then looked at Kristen. "Well, that's it for my part here at the lab. You may leave now...have a good journey, eh?"
---
((Okay! Whew! Now then, below you'll see the stats for your three starter Pokemon. You need to copy + paste these into the thread you had for Kristen in the applications forum - this will act as your trainer's profile. It is up to you to keep these up-to-date with levels, movesets, and other things. A mod will only do it for you if they get really annoyed...and annoyed mods aren't always a good thing. X3
---
Poochyena Gender: male Level: 5 Group: 1 Nickname: you choose Ability: Run Away: it is easy to run away from wild battles Attacks: Tackle, Howl Personality: Shy and timid. He is very shy around people and Pokemon he doesn't know, and sometimes downright scared. He needs some coaxing to get into battles...or at least some practice. However, once you get to know him (or rather, once he gets to know you), he's very sweet, friendly, and caring.
Chimchar Gender: female Level: 25 Group: 2 Nickname: you choose Notes: shiny! Ability: Blaze: when health is low, fire-type attack power goes up Attacks: Fury Swipes, Flame Wheel, Nasty Plot, Taunt Personality: Hyper, happy, and optimistic. Nothing can get her down! However, sometimes she's so happy that she disregards other people's feelings, or just misses subtle hints. You have to explain a lot of things to her, because sometimes, she just doesn't get it. She's a good battler, though.
Aerodactyl Gender: male Level: 45 Group: 3 Nickname: you choose Ability: Rock Head: receives no recoil damage Attacks: Fire Fang, Ancientpower, Scary Face, Take Down Personality: Loyal, serious, and intense. He thinks of everything as a battle he has to win (or win for Kristen), everyone as an enemy he has to defeat (or protect Kristen from), and everywhere as a place he has to conquer (or get Kristen through safely). He always refers to Kristen as "Miss Kristen", and is sort of obsessed with her (and kind of aloof towards everyone else). Deep down he's nice...but on the surface, he's just an intensely loyal Pokemon who likes to battle.
---
Remember, if you want them to learn a move they would have known by this level, but don't, just go to the Move Relearner's House. All movesets are now DP movesets. And yay...you got the second official DP Pokemon! ^_^
So yeah...that's it...and off to Route 1/3/5 with you!
(And remember, if you want to use the other two Pokemon, you can always go to the Altering Mansion, Sankaku Island (either the grasslands for wild Pokemon battles or the Colosseum for trainer battles), or the Underground Maze.)))
