The sun rose over the hills, turning the city around the black haired boy a golden orange colour. He turned his face up to the sun, and drank in its warmth, like a hungry man. His night black hair was pulled back into a ponytail, that whipped around in the light breeze. His name was William Karson. He was a shy boy from Goldenrod, or around there rather. He had a tendency of doing things at his own pace, and he was in love.
Today was the day he would start Pokemon training. A dream he'd had since about the age of merely six years. It felt good to get away from his family, who made up twelve with himself counted.
Will paused, drawing in a deep breath, and preparing himself with a heavy air of nervousness. No reason to go shy. He thought determinedly. No reason at all. He raised his hand, took another breath and shut his midnight-blue eyes, then....knocked.

A muffled yell came from inside. There were a few thumps, crashes, and muffled explosions before a singed-looking old professor opened the door, panting. "Sorry...computer...blew up..." A rather guilty-looking pachirisu poked her head out from behind the door. "<I swear it wasn't my fault! I totally - I mean, IT totally blew up on its own!>" The professor rolled his eyes, ignoring the squirrel. He then ushered Will inside, closing the door behind him. A smoking, now-black computer lay in ruins on the floor near the two caged ekans, both of which had moved to the other side of the cage, and were wrinkling their noses in disgust. It smelled really bad... Professor Cherry just ignored the mess his laboratory was in, and gave Will the once over. "New trainer, eh? Well, I'm sure you know about the special Jenta group system, right? If not," he began, handing Will a pamphlet on the system. "Basically, what you need to know for the lab is that you get three starters, one for each group. The groups are determined by level, so you get one level 5 Pokemon - this is your Group 1 starter, a Group 2 level 25 Pokemon, and a level 45 starter for Group 3. You get to choose what you get for Group 1, but your other two are random. However, I do try to give you a balanced team to start out with." The old man pointed to a list on the wall. "These are the Pokemon you can choose from for your Group 1 starter. If you have any questions, are feeling indecisive and want advice, or want to meet a few, just say so." ((The "pamphlet" on the group system: Pamphlet on the Classes SystemThe "list on the wall": Available PokemonIn case you haven't noticed, I was lazy, and copied half this response from another lab thread. It's late...so tired... ))

Will smiled nervously. He looked down at his plain dark-blue shirt and jeans. Is it really that obvious? That I wanna be a trainer? He shrugged. Supposing it wasn't a bad thing. He wanted to get this done quickly and be over with talking to the Proffessor, but...he knew this was important. His three poke'mon would be his lifetime companions, helping him acheive unreachable goals to him.
He scanned the list, pausing and grouping together a good team with lots of different types. Then, so quietly in a velvet voice (yesh, I like my Will...XP) he said, " I would like to see your female Pachisiru for Group 1. For group 2 I'd like to see a male Houndour, and for group 3... a shiny Eevee please..." He stared nervously at the Proffessor forcing himself to look into his eyes. " Please."
He ran through the list again, a good team, with wonderful fighting possibilities, and a wide range of weaknesses. His heart started to pound for some unknown reason while the Professor began to reply.

Professor Cherry laughed. "Sorry, youngster, you're only allowed to pick out the first group pokemon. The other two are generated by computer based suggestions. They take your personal information, combined with the information about the starter, and generate ten possible starter packages. I usually go with the first package listed, as it's the best type balance wise, but sometimes I might take a different package if I think it would be better. Now, why don't you choose a pokedex color -- they're over there on that table. I've got blue, green, red, purple, gray, yellow and white to choose from at the moment."
He shuffled over to the computer to put in Will's information, and spit out a package suggestion. "One grass-water package coming up," the professor told Will as he walked over to a back room, looking back for a moment at the pachi standing guiltily next to the blackened computer. "Go over and say hi," he instructed. "You might want to explain why you have no pokeball for a start."
<Oh,> she rubbed the back of her head as she bounded over to Will. <Yeah, about the whole pokeball thing -- I was poking it one day and it spontaneously combusted. It's the truth!>
Professor Cherry rolled his eyes as he came back with his good old fashioned shopping bag of starter packageness, and began to lay the items out on the table. "This is your group two starter, a cherubi, and your group three starter is a seel," he place the pokeballs a little away from the bag, before bringing out five more pokeballs, which he left near it. "These are your complementary pokeballs, this is your berry bag, please don't forget to stock up on berries along your journey, and finally 5000 pyen compliments of the Jentan Pokemon League."
((Short version:
Your pokemon:
Group One: Pachirisu Level: 5 Gender: Female Attacks: Growl, Bide, Quick Attack Special Ability: Pick Up - Can find hidden items occasionally Personality: She's curious, and unfortunately her curiosity tends to end in a smoking heap of rubble as she will discharge her electricity when she's excited, and she's always excited to discover new things.
Group 2 Shiny Cherubi Gender: Female Level: 25 Moves: Tackle, Ember, Sunny Day, Magical Leaf Personality: She knows Ember, and she's not afraid to use it. This little cherubi is a little smug and self satisfied for knowing a fire type move, and being shiny. She'll challenge anyone to battle, believing that she can win anything. 'Cause she knows the pwnsome Ember.
Group 3 Seel Gender: Male Level: 45 Moves: Ice Beam, Aqua Tail, Take Down, Rest Special Ability: Thick Fat - Halves damage taken from Ice and fire attacks Personality: He's just a lazy rolly polly puddin' of a pokemon. He likes to lounge around and eat, and firmly declares that in a previous life he was a snorlax. He's funny and friendly, and will do anything for a jam donut.
Your pack: 5 pokeballs 1 pokedex 1 berry bag 5000 pyen

Will turned crimson immediately, and took the balls and bag from him. He pocketed the poke'dex, which was gray. that he had chosen, and paused. " I'm slightly confused." He confessed, " When it comes to the gym battles can I use all three groups? Do I get six poke'mon in each group?" Will blushed again, " I'm sorry, but I don't want to mess anything up."

The professor smiled. "You can only use one group in the gym battles. And you can get as many Pokemon in one group, but you can only have ten total with you at one time. You always have to have at least one Pokemon from each group present in your active party, even though you can't use 'em."
He lead William over to a map. "See? There are three roads leading from the lab. You may pick either Route 1, Route 3, or Route 5 to start out in.
"If you pick Route 1, then you'll be challenging Arisa's Group 1 ice-type gym first, and using your pachirisu the whole way. Your pachirisu should do okay there, since she has two water-types. If you back her up with another electric-type or fighting-type, both of which you can find on Route 1, you should be fine.
"If you pick Route 3, then you'll be challenging Botan's Group 2 grass-type gym first, and your cherubi will be seeing battle. She should be fine, seeing as she'll be pretty good defensively since she's a grass-type, and offensively because of her Ember. You can back her up with flying-types or poison-types, and it would work very well.
"If you should choose to start out on Route 5, then you'll be challenging Bahati's Group 3 steel-type gym with your seel. Again, you have an advantage, and there are plenty of fire-types and ground-types you can use to back your seel up."
He straightened, and glanced again at the map. "Of course, you can also visit the 'other places' in Jenta to train your other two groups. You may do this simultaneously, and it is generally considered a good idea. You may use any groups in places such as Sankaku Island, the Underground Maze game, or the Altering Mansion. Alternately, you could send a Pokemon or three to the Outer Island for them to explore."

" Alright, thankyou." Will smiled," I think I'll head out towards Route 3 first. I may come back around here to visit later, if its alright with you." Will nodded and walked over to the Proffessor, "Thankyou so much for this. I know it's your job, but still. It's wonderful to have a nice person to start with who is willing to answer my questions." His midnight blue gaze went to his poke'balls, all hint of uncertainty gone from their deep depths.
