Kakaru groaned as she slammed back onto the ground. Before long, a Sandstorm entered the area due to her ability <I am so going to defeat you!> Kakaru growled as she glared at the bird before standing up again. "Kakaru, use Sand Attack on that Starly and then Tackle the tree." < Ok, here I come!> Kakaru turned around and kicked at the sands on the ground towards the bird Pokemon before charging forwards at the metal tree, hoping that her strenght would be able to knock the Starly down.

The tree trembled violently, causing the perched starly to take to the air. The bird gave the hippopotamus pokemon a funny look, and then eyed her trainer speculatively. The flying type had to say that he didn't think this was the best training decision ever made. On the other hand, there was a pack on the girl's back, and packs had food. With a musical cry he dipped low, and landed on the human's pack. Another smug chirp was uttered, and the pokemon began to undo the straps separating him and the food that must be there.

Sapphire was suprised by the decision that the Starly made. Instead of attacking, it went for her backpack. The bird Pokemon was rapidly undoing the straps that Sapphire had to think of something. "Kakaru, try Tackling the Starly now!" Sapphire quickly let the backpack slide off her back and onto the ground before her Starter charged forwards from behind it.

The sudden change in elevation the backpack experienced managed to startle the starly right away, and that sudden stunning feeling only increased dramatically when something large and heavy slammed into his body from the right. He slid across the floor, stopping a few meters away from the backpack (and Kakaru). Blinking dazedly, he got to his feet and ruffled his feathers, a little clueless as to what just happened. Then he saw Kakaru's smug expression, and knew exactly what he needed to do about - No, wait, the other pokemon was blocking his path to the backpack (and the food). Oh well, the bird thought, time to actually to some battling. With that, he flitted into the air, gaining altitude before diving down to deliver a forceful peck attack towards the facial region of the hippopatus. ((I did all this without a Pokedex-type thing, so there are probably spelling errors...and I dunno if starly actually learns peck (off the top of my head). Heh. Whoops. Hiii there, dragonairblizzard. I swear we're usually very committed to quality here at Jenta...))

<Now what?> Kakaru asked her trainer as the Starly came closer. "Quickly, look towards the ground, and when the bird hits you, Tackle it by jumping upwards." Sapphire said to her Starter. She could see that her Pokemon was tiring out fast, and she needed to defeat the Starly.
Kakaru obeyed her trainer by quickly placing her face towards the floor. At the moment she felt the sharp stab on the top of her head, Kakaru jumped towards the Starly before it could fly away and used a Tackle.

The starly realized the other trainer's strategy far too late, and by the time his beak collided with the other pokemon, he was already being thrown into the air.
And then he came down - hard - onto the not-so-soft floor, a hit that cost him most of his health.
But not all! Oh, no, he still had one, maybe two (if he was lucky), attacks left in him before he had to black out for a little while.
So he took this moment to flap his wings, woozily getting himself airborne, and trying another dive-bomb peck attack. (He was good at getting food, yes, but not so smart in terms of realizing the exact same attack won't usually work twice against an opponent smarter than a piece of moldy cheese.)

( Oh, I just checked that Starly does not learn Peck, so the two basics are Growl and Tackle, Level 5 is Quick Attack and 9 is Wing Attack. So lets say that the Airbourne Peck was an Airbourne Tackle.)
Sapphire simply stared at the Starly as is tried the same tactic again. She had never thought that a Starly was that stupid. "Well, Kakaru, get ready and when..." <Yes I know, use Tackle when it hits me like before. I'm not that stupid like somebody.> Kakaru barged in getting into position with a smirk. She was so going to defeat the stupid Starly which made fun of her when the battle had started. <Now you are going to pay.> Kakaru muttered to herself.

(( -_-;;;;;;;;;;;;; I made this mistake on Jason's thread, too. Heh...yyyyyyyeahhhhhh...*ahem* ))
And, of course he did pay...
He nose-dived straight into Kakaru's tackle, tacking the blunt of the other pokemon's attack while feeling the rebound of his own when he smashed into her body.
This was, in fact, enough to knock him out, since he hit his head and all. With a final groan, he slumped onto the tiled floor, twitching slightly as he drifted into the strange dreamworld of the unconscious pokemon.
The loudspeaker made a dinging noise, and an automated voice stated the following:
[Congratulations.] [You have defeated a level 7 starly.] [Your hippotatas gains 1 1/2 levels.] [Your hippotatas is now at level 8 and has learned the attack bite.] [Another foe is coming your way. Do you wish to continue?]

Sapphire smiled as she threw her Pokeball onto the Starly. The sphere gently touched the bird and opened up before a light absorbed the Pokemon. "Hope we can catch this Pokemon. It will be useful and you did a great job." Sapphire told her Pokemon as she petted her. <It wasn't that hard.> Kakaru boasted before looking at the thrown Pokeball. <Aw, do we have to have that Starly on our team? We won't work together.> Kakaru whined as she stared at the rocking Pokeball. " We do not wish to continue." Sapphire told the speaker, before looking at the Pokeball with the Starly in it and waiting to see if it was to be caught.

The pokeball stopped shaking, and Sapphire's pokedex beeped to show it had received the stats. The loudspeaker told Sapphire that she had just captured the "wild" starly, and that it wished her a good day.
The stats for the bird were as follows:
Starly Name: ? ? ? Gender: Male Personality: Very inquisitive and driven (especially when food or shiny objects are involved - doubly so if they are hidden from view), though sometimes not too bright when it comes to strategizing about how to get what he wants. Level: 7 Moves: Tackle, Growl, Quick Attack Special ability: Keen Eye - Accuracy cannot be lowered.

(I'm not saying you are wrong, but since the Starly is level 7, shouldn't it have learnt Quick Attack and not have learnt Wing Attack till level 9?)
Sapphire grinned and walked over to the Pokemon. She had just caught her first Pokemon. "I'll call you Hawk." She said to the Pokeball before walking back to Kakaru. "Come on, we'll go the Pokemon Center to get you two healed and then we will go and catch a Mankey." <Ok, lets go!> Kakaru said happily before bolting to the Pokecenter with Sapphire following her. Once inside, Sapphire returned her Pokemon back into its Pokeball and handed both spheres to Nurse Joy. "May you heal my Pokemon again?" Sapphire asked.

((*cough* ...I definitely meant Quick and wrote Wing...))
The "Nurse Joy" on duty, who was actually a brunette with short curly hair named Amelia (though the name woven onto her uniform was still Joy, for some reason), nodded and took the two pokeballs from Sapphire. "Alright, level 8 hippopotas and level 7 starly," she read off the computer screen. She pressed a few buttons, running the basic health scan. "Minor battle damages to the hippopotas, but nothing more than a scratch or two. The starly's unconscious - you probably knew that already, though, since it looks newly caught - but nothing more than that. It'll just be a second..."
The Joy (also known as Amelia) pressed a few more buttons on her keyboard, initiating the healing process. It only took a minute, due to the fact that neither of Sapphire's pokemon were actually hurt passed normal minor battle bumps and bruises. "Your pokemon are ready," the nurse told Sapphire with a smile, handing back the two pokeballs. "Have a nice day."

"Thank you very much," Sapphire said before taking the two spheres. She tapped the center of the Pokeball, allowing Kakaru and Hawk out. Once the light had died away, Kakaru smiled at her trainer before noticing the Starly next to her. Hawk had also noticed Kakaru, and the two glared at each other before both making their way over to their trainer. <Come on, lets go and get a Mankey!> Kakaru half yelled excitedly and rushed to the Wild Pokemon Stimulation. Hawk couldn't be bothered flying after the two, so he simply sat on Sapphire's shoulder as she ran back to where she had caught Hawk.
Sapphire quickly looked at the chart showing where each Pokemon was and hurried off to level 5. "Hawk, get ready to fight." <Ok, no problem.> Hawk replied before flying off the female's shoulder.

It only took the group a few moments to come face-to-face with a mankey. A rather inquisitive female hopped out from behind one of the trees grown to make the mankey habitat more inviting, and she scurried over to the pair, examining Hawk.
It took the pig-faced monkey a few moments to realize the implications of seeing Hawk and the trainer, and she glanced behind her in case she could run for it. However, she couldn't, so she turned back to Hawk and Sapphire.
"<If you're here to battle me, you can have the first move,>" she informed them reluctantly. Even she wasn't stupid enough to see that there was a type disadvantage here - she would probably lose even if she got the first attack in, so why bother extending the inevitable?
