*Pant**Pant**Pant* Cody was jogging to Cherry's lab. He was thinking of what pokemon would be there. Wouldn't be that hard for him. He already knew Fire was elimanated from his choice and every thing else except Water, Grass, and bug. When he got in front of the steps he hunkered down and sat on the ground.
He was exausted. Right before he stood up the doors started to open. Cody brushed his shorts off and worked his way up the stairs to the door. "Finally," he thought in his mind,"I'm getting a pokemon to start my adventure with. This is gonna be great." He looked inside with his eyes wide open and with a surprised manner on his face.

It would not have been hard for an observer to guess why Cody might have been surprised. The door was being opened on a string, and that string was held in the mouth of a large ekans who had seated herself in a rolly chair. She smirked at Cody as she dropped the string, and waved the tip of her tail. For a person who did not come from an area covered by a region wide translator, or someone who didn't have a personal translator inside their pokedex what happened next would have surprised them.
<Hello. Welcome to the Jenta lab,> the snake said, in perfectly clear English, although there was a hint of sibilance. <Professor Cherry and Haru are busy at the moment. How may I help you? -- Rather, since you can only be here for your starter set, could you kindly push the chair over to the computer over there, and I'll get you registered. Just tell me your name, age, and Group One starter choice.>

Cody wheeled the table over to the desk. He was speechless. A talking pokemon. Very rare he thought. He looked to the ekans and said "My name is Cody Moth, I'm 13 years of age, and I would like a ----."He was enterupted by thought. What pokemon would he want. He hadn't really ever thought about it except when he tried to catch Mothim. "A mudkip," he continued. His dicission was a little rushed, but he finally dicided to get Mudkip over Chikorita. He was glad to get that big decission off of his chest. As he started fantasize about his future adventures with his mudkip he awaited an answer.

<--irteen and wants a -- mudkip,> Hana repeated, hitting the keys with stabs from the tip of her tail. <Any gender or personality preference before I look up which starter packs have mudkips in them? We have a certain number of the group one pokemon sent to us in starter kits by the league, with random group two and three pokemon put in as well. You get to have complete control over your first group pokemon, but your second and third could be anything, so we try to have as many personality and gender options as possible availiable for the group ones. That way everyone will be happy. I know you've probably heard this all before, when you read the Jentan travel brochure, but just so you're ready your group two and three pokemon will be a complete surprise."

"Well, um," Cody started "I would Like a Boy Mudkip that is corageous and loyal. Try to get a young one. I like it when they are just babies. Their bond will get better faster." He didn't know any more traits it should have sorolled up another rolling chair and sat down in it looking at the computer. He wasn't really a conversation starter, but he still asked "So, how did you learn how to talk? It's amazing."

Hana flicked a polite-yet-sort-of-annoyed glance at him. "<Sorry, kid, we don't like giving out babies to trainers that often. If you were twenty or so, we might, but Jentan law doesn't let us give out unweaned starters anyway. >" She then pressed a couple buttons, and scanned her computer screen. "<Okay, it looks like we have a starter pack with a male mudkip that fits the traits 'loyal' and 'courageous'. I'll go get it in a minute.>"
She then slithered over to a cardboard box underneath the table, and dragged it out by the teeth to Cody. Inside was a jumble of different colored Pokedexes, with all colors of the rainbow (plus the greyscale and brown) represented. "<If you wanted pink, then too bad, 'cause we're all out,>" Hana drawled. "<But you're not a little girl, so I doubt that will be a problem. Anyway, just pick the color you want, and I'll go put your information in it when I get your starter pack.>"
She then blinked her large yellow eyes, and remembered another question he'd asked. "<Oh, and I learned to talk the same way you did, when I was a hatchling. You just didn't know how to listen until you walked into a region with a translator set up throughout. Get used to it - we're all smarter than you might think, boy.>"

Cody pulled out a Crimson colored pokedex and flashed it to the ekans. "This one," he said. He sat it down on the table and walked over to Hana and looked at the screen. He unpaceintly awaited the results. He wasn't too disapointed about not getting a baby Mudkip. Afterall age doesn't really matter. The n he broke the silence by asking "Where are Prof. Cherry and "Haru" anyway?"

"<They're out. 'Dunno where,>" she stated tersely before looking at his Pokedex choice. "<The red one. You from Kanto, or something?>" Hana asked as she bit down on it, taking it to the back room. She emerged a few moments later with a neatly closed brown paper parcel, which she placed on the ground in front of Cody.
She jabbed her tail at it. "<Okay, so that's your starter pack. Inside is your red Pokedex, all programmed up to have all your information and access to your bank account - which, by the way, has 5000 pyen in it. Use it wisely. You also get some assorted berries for en route healing, five empty Pokeballs, and three filled ones. One has your mudkip, and that's your group one starter. The other two have your other starters - the koffing is group two, and the luvdisc is group three. Sorry about giving you a team heavy on the water-type, but you should be okay if you even it out on the road.>"
Hana then gestured towards a map on the wall. "<Anyway, as you can see, there are three roads leaving from the lab, and you can choose to take any one of the three as your first route. Route One goes east to Sapphire City - both the route and the gym are classified as group one, as they are all populated with Pokemon with levels in the single-digits. You'd be using your mudkip here. The gym leader, Arisa, uses ice-types, so your mudkip might be useful - however, she's probably the toughest first gym leader, and has the highest loss rate for first-time challengers out of all three of the first gyms. For you, I would not recommend going this way first.>"
"<Your second option is the road going south, down to Florak Town, Route Three. This area is classified as group two, and you'll be seeing Pokemon in the level 25-and-higher range. Your koffing will do quite well against Botan's grass-types in the gym, and if you catch a flying-type to help you, I think you'll probably win on your first try. People are generally happiest with this route as their first, so I think I would recommend this one to you to take.>"
"<Your final option is the northbound route that takes you to our mountain range, Route Five. The road connects up with Sunstone Tunnel, which then takes you underground to the Settlement of Nga, where Bahati has her steel-type gym. On the way you'll be fighting group three Pokemon with your luvdisc, which won't be too hard once you get a good out-of-water strategy for your fish. You'd probably want to lay off on using your luvdisc too much, since she is a fish, and that route is fairly dry. However, there are plenty of fire-types and ground-types along the way to help you with the gym, and they should be easy to catch with your water-type. I don't think I would recommend this route as highly as Route Three, but I think it is a better choice than Route One.>"
The snake then yawned. "<Well, you're pretty much done. Unless you have any questions, you can leave now. Again - I would highly suggest you take Route Three. If you want to use your mudkip and luvdisc, you can train them simultaneously in one of our 'other' places, such as the Underground Maze and Sankaku Island.>"
((And that's it. Here are your stats. Make sure to copy them into your character profile and UPDATE THEM with current level and attack information.
And, also, I would highly recommend you go to Route Three first. If you want to use your mudkip and luvdisc, you can have threads going in the various 'other places' at the same time as your main thread in Jenta. This is the most efficient way of training.
Mudkip Gender: male Level: 5 Group: 1 Nickname: you choose Ability: Torrent - when health is low, water-type attacks have more power Attacks: Tackle, Growl Personality: Courageous and loyal, almost to a fault - he will follow what his trainer says no matter what, even if it puts him in danger. He also doesn't like to make decisions for himself, and will usually copy his trainer's habits rather than invent his own. He's very cheerful about it, though.
Koffing Gender: female Level: 25 Group: 2 Nickname: you choose Ability: Levitate - ground-type offensive moves have no effect Attacks: Sludge, Selfdestruct, Assurance, Smokescreen Personality: Very kind and loving, though gets fed up with cynical people (like her luvdisc teammate). She also gets frustrated if things don't go her way.
Luvdisc Gender: female Level: 45 Group: 3 Nickname: you choose Ability: Swift Swim - speed rises if it is raining Attacks: Captivate, Aqua Ring, Water Pulse, Sweet Kiss Personality: Sort of short-tempered and emotional. Very prone to feeling like she's being insulted, and tends to find faults with herself and others before she finds positive attributes. Likes to fight.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.))
