Setting: The first bit takes you through a dry plain area, then it shifts to going upwards into the mountains. Because of the dry climate, fire, rock, and ground-type Pokemon tend to hang around. Sometimes you'll come across an electric type or two playing in the dry grass...and lighting it on fire accidentally. Beware of frequent fires, you might want to catch a ground-type or bring a water-type to put them out.
All of the Pokemon here are Group 3.
Common [1-50] -- Macargo [1-10] -- Camerupt [11-20] -- Torkoal [21-30] -- Growlithe [31-40] -- Donphan [41-50]
Uncommon [51-86] -- Vulpix [51-56] -- Magmar [57-62] -- Drapion [63-68] -- Marowak [69-74] -- Sudowoodo [75-80] -- Pikachu [81-86]
Rare [87-100] -- Manectric [87-88] -- Electabuzz [89-90] -- Rapidash [91-92] -- Rhydon [93-94] -- Purugly [95-96] -- Skarmory [97-98] -- Steely bagon (level 45 - 50) MUTATED! [99-100]
The level range is 45 to 52.

Corwin's Journal
First off, let me tell you, I am proud to say that I've personally discovered my own group of pokemon previously unknown to the route. Not pokemon with some specialized abnormality. Not pokemon who have become sick, just regular old pokemon who no one knew existed in Jenta. Whoo!
Right now I'm writing this journal entry in a skarmory nest hidden among the rocks of Route Five. The reason I'm here, however, has very little to do with the skarmory. I was coming out of Sunstone Tunnel to head back to Wyvern Village, when I saw something plummet down past my head. A bagon had climbed to the lip of the tunnel entrance, and had plummeted down. Of course, it hit its head, and came back unharmed, but what was amazing was that when it hit the earth, it sounded as though someone had hit the side of a soup pot (Margin Note: Mmm soup... how long has it been since I last ate?).
Here is the secret of the bagon of Route 5:
They are gray blue and lighter gray in the areas we normally see as cream. That is because their living flesh is covered in shiny gray armor. These are, in fact, steel types! I've only seen five bagon so far. All are getting to the age where they want to go out exploring away from the nest. Yes, these pokemon have been brought up with the skarmory that I was talking about earlier. They have been hidden most of their lives, but now they're nearing level 50, and they don't seem to care to listen to their "fathers" -- which they claim the male skarmory to be.
Exciting as this news must be, I have some grimmer revelations to make. Once I gained the trust of these two species I tried to pick up one of the bagon to put back in the nest hidden behind the rocks. Now, I was on the weightlifting team in high school, and I still keep in shape. However, for the life of me, I could not lift a single one of the bagon, even the smallest. What this means for their future is simply put, a lack of flight. Interested as they are in soaring to the skies, it won't happen. According to one of the skarmory here, they've had a few evolve in the past, and they know that shellgon are not on the agenda as far as the young bagon is concerned (Margin note: Skarmory seem strangely reticent about revealing the shape of the evolution).
When asked what it was like to live with skarmory, the bagon didn't seem to find anything strange about the relationship. A female skarmory I have named Peggy pecked me when she found out that I was asking about whether or not the bagon missed living with salamence. Apparently if a bagon is born with this armored mutation they are instantly kicked out of the nest, as their lack of flight will unnerve the "true" bagon, and cause dismay among older dragons.
I wonder how many bagon are born like this? What if the low birthrate among salamence isn't due to anything more than the fact that they rid themselves of any mutated offspring. Something to ponder and study -- although I'll work on saying things like this politely, for fear of offending something as large as a salamance.
