Celyn yawned, brushing a strand of straight black hair out of his eyes. He was at the laboratory, just like they told him.
He then knocked on the door, and waited.
He took this time to do a little thinking.
So I need rare Pokemon - female, of course, he thought, tapping his chin a bit. Hopefully they'll have psychics, or at least something that knows Hypnosis. They have that weird thing where they give out three Pokemon, too. I guess that ups my chances of getting something useful. I can always just give the others away. Celyn stretched, yawned again (he didn't sleep all that well on the train ride from Li Jing, where he had been before), and continued to wait.

Professor Cherry, kind, trusting soul that he was, opened the door. "Oh, hello, you're a new trainer, right? No one ever stops by who isn't, anyway," he ran his hands through his white hair distractedly. "Anyway, do come in. I'm professor Cherry, and the two lazybones sleeping in my comfy armchair," he waved his gnarled hand over at a coiled lump of ekanses, "are Hana and Haru, female and male, respectively."

The young man smiled smoothly at the snakes. "Such pretty Pokemon," he commented in a suave-sounding voice. "I hope my starters have that same healthy luster, if they too are reptilian." He then noticed the rather crooked list of Group 1 Pokemon ( oh yes, that pesky group system, he remembered), and stepped over to it. Craning his neck around a precariously-stacked pile of books, he looked the list over a few times. "Oh, I see you don't...oh well, that's fine," he mumbled, wheels spinning in his head. He could always hope for the other two Pokemon, after all. But what to do about the Group 1 starter? Of course, worse come to worst, he could always turn it in for testing or simply sell it off...but it would be nice if it could have some use, in case the Group 2 and 3 starters flopped. He realized soon enough that absolutely none of the Pokemon listed were rare or particularly useful. Sighing, he went down the list once more, relaxing his standards a bit. "Maybe...well, I could always use the Pick Up ability of a zigzagoon, or I could go with a powerful Pokemon to help me catch something else..." He glanced over it again between mumblings. "Maybe one of the standard starters? If I got a female one I could always breed it to sell to regions as starters, or to trainers who want more than one. Hmm...I could always get a Pick Up-er later, they're common enough. If I got a popular standard starter with a good amount of power and speed, I should be okay." Celyn paused, finished making a decision, then turned back to the professor. "I think I know which Group 1 starter I want - oh yes, and I know all about the group system, no need to explain. I think I would like a charmander." The young man paused, then smiled again. "Oh, and if you're going to ask about my preferences for gender and personality, I would definitely like a female. As for personality, I would like somebody loyal, or at least emotionally stable." He thought for a moment. It would be good if the professor thought he was a "good trainer" (not like he was evil, or anything, he just wanted to be a breeder). "I guess I'd want her to be friendly, too. But loyal and steady is important - I can't handle a sugary personality...do you have something like that? Remember, if anything, I want a female." ((Bwahahah. He's getting a Rotom in the giveaway. ))

Decisiveness! Professor Cherry was glad that this trainer was decisive, rather than waffling, thereby making it clear that the trainer hadn't come prepared. Um, but perhaps -- the professor of Jenta continued to listen as the new trainer spoke softly to himself -- maybe he was a little too decisive? Maybe. The professor had a sudden desire to see the last of the self assured young man. He seemed so smooth, like honey, or slugs. Maybe not smooth, so much as slimy. And he was so -- definite about things.
Professor Cherry snapped out of his reverie as Celyn nailed the last point home about his desired gender. "Well, I'll try to find that," he mumbled, shuffling over to a computer, and beginning to put the information in for the registration authorities, and the group system people.
"Do you have a preferred pokedex color as well? And I warn you, female charmanders don't just grow on tre--," his computer beeped happily that they had the exact match that Celyn was looking for, and directed the Professor to the proper rack of pokeballs.
[Please wait while your team is complied,] the computer finished, and began to whir through the probabilities.
Professor Cherry shuffled over to the rack full of pokeballs, cross indexed by nature, gender, and species. Taking the third pokeball from the back he put that down on the table, and then shuffled off to the back room, as the computer beeped that Celyn had received the typical starter pack: Fire/Water/Grass, bag 173 in the back, thank you.
He came back a few moments later, with a shopping bag, and two steel spheres in his hand. "These two are your group 2," he placed a great ball on the table, "and group three," an ultra ball went to lie quietly next to its brothers, "pokemon. These," he began taking pokeballs, great balls, and ultra balls out of the bag, and placing them on the table away from the filled ones in a neat pyramid, "are the balls you can have for free. Buy the rest of them yourself, please. And this is your berry bag," he pulled a soft pouch from the depths of the plastic shopping bag.
"Just tell me your pokedex number and we're all set."
Group 1 Charmander Gender: Female Level: 5 Moves: Scratch, Growl Ability: Blaze - When HP is low, fire attacks increase Personality: She's loyal, oh so loyal. Almost as if she's been brainwashed. But she'll stick with Celyn through thick and thin, and be his loyal partner. If he betrays her? Oh, he wouldn't want to betray her. Oh, no. Because she trusts him.
~~~
Group 2: Oddish Gender: Male Level: 25 Moves: Acid, Spore, Razor Leaf, Moonlight Ability: Effect Spore - 30% of paralysis/sleep/poison if the opponent attacks physically Personality: He's the product of some very interesting breeding techniques, he'd love to -- ahem -- sow his seeds around to create more like him...
Group 3 Remoraid (shiny) Gender: Male Level: 45 Moves: Psybeam, Ice Beam, Bubblebeam, Focus Energy Personality: He may not be a psychic type by definition, but he is psychic, all right. He can hear your thoughts, feel your emotions, and he's only too happy to manipulate them. He's cold, cruel, and cunning. He'll do whatever he sees fit to get on in life. If that's helping Celyn out, then it's helping him out. If not, well, Celyn's up a creek with no paddle, then.
And your Pack: 5000 Pyen 5 Pokeballs 5 Great Balls 5 Ultra Balls Berry Bag
((Mori-chan! There is nowhere that it says (or that I ever said) you get Great Balls and Ultra Balls here! >_<+ I'll pretend ya didn't mention that. )) Celyn glanced over at a table, and picked up a grey Pokedex. "I'll take this one, then." He then took his starter pack, and left the building with a friendly wave. "Thank you, professor." Once outside, he checked through the Pokemon. "The charmander seems fine, though she looks a little young. If she tries to have an egg, it could have some problems...I'd better wait to start her breeding. Plus, higher-leveled Pokemon generally produce better offspring and are more prepared to bear the eggs." The young man then checked the other two. "The oddish...no, I think I'll get rid of him. I have no need for this sort of oddish, nor do I have anything worth breeding his attacks to. As for the remoraid...well, he is rather tempting...but no. I need something who is better equipped for land battle." As he walked down the road, deciding which route to take, he pondered what to do about the two unwanted Pokemon. "I suppose I could sell or trade them off...I could turn them in, of course (they might like the remoraid, especially). However, I'd have to...hmmm...what to do, what to do? I'll need a better team..." So then he continued walking, deep in thought. ((And a note to everybody reading this - Celyn isn't evil. He's just a normal, everyday breeder; that's his job and how he makes money to live on. He wants the psychic Pokemon to make the breeding females calmer, and since there aren't generally many easy-access freshwater areas whenever he needs them, he needs something other than the remoraid. ^_^;; ))
((Erm, I know I'm not an admin yet, because Nyaa isn't on to change my Member status, and she hasn't given that power to Effie-kun, but I asked Effie, and she said it was alright for me to ambush Celyn with NCP-ness, and since you haven't started a Route thread to my knowledge... here goes))
A girl coming in from route three pedaled hurriedly toward the direction of the lab on her shiny blue bycicle. Her dark hair didn't exactly "wave" in the breeze, but what little hair came out from under her helmet did ripple as the she sped along. Seeing Celyn, she jerked to a stop, and placed her feet on the ground, in case she needed to get off the bike entirely.
"Hey, you the breeding obsessee Violet talks about so much?" she asked, wiping dust and grime from her face. "It's me, Viola. We met at that orientation thing last year. Remember? Anyway, Violet told me to tell you that there's something you should see in the Shelter at the Nishi building, right? As in you should get there right. Now. I'll be in touch by cell phone, all right? Violet didn't tell me all the details, and I've got a newspaper route to run. Bye."
She hopped back on her bike and sped off.
