Alright, so in this thread, all limits are nonexistent, with the exception of attacking a person for the sake of attacking them. If things get out of hand or inappropriate, such as: Please be nice to Gyara-Gyara, and others, of course. So if you want to get down into the nitty-gritty of theological, political, or...um...spaghetti talk, here is the place. And try not to get offended/offend others TOO too much...

Debate Problem: Do we still need the Plot Permission Thread with the new application form?
I would say no, and it's taking up valuable sticky'd thread space. If you're going to put your characters back in Jenta you need to say how you feel about the plot, so it's kinda redundant to have the permission thread, isn't it?

Ehhhhh, you're right, we don't need it. I can go change that. I'm still tweaking the applications, but yeah, the plot permission thread basically is useless because by RPing in Jenta, you ARE offering yourself up to the evil bad guyz.
I shall start another topic, probably something political so people can go crazy over it, once I think of a prompt. Or, at least, something that isn't quite as blatant as Socialism VS Capitalism or something.
Or is that a good one?

Well, the problem with that one is that we've heard all the arguments, and no one was swayed either way ;D.

Well, in the time honored tradition of debate, I shall open with a proposition. In other words, a statement that takes the "pro" side of a debate. The debate question is always a yes or no question, but the proposition opens up a variety of options to support or refute the proposition. So, for example, the debate question might be: Are miltank any good on a serious team? However the proposition would be: Miltank are essential for any champion's team. And then you would have to back it up with proof.
Okay, here is my proposition:
The GSNP slogans are just that: slogans, phrases to hang empty rhetoric around.
Let us examine these three slogans. Peace is freedom, equality is life, and truth is salvation, that is the platform of these slogans. They sound nice. They use gripping words, and contain individual concepts within their frameworks that are things that everyone should wish for, peace, truth, life, freedom, etc.
However, the problem with all three slogans lies in the verb choice. "Is" means "to be," and in this context "is" becomes "(is) equal to" or, more simply, "equals." So, the slogans can read, in other words: Peace equals Freedom, Equality equals Life, and Truth equals Salvation. I am only pointing this out to ensure that the full meaning of these slogans is brought forth. I would stipulate than none of these three sayings has any ring of fact, or bearing on reality.
Let us take the first one: "Peace is Freedom." Hardly. Peace and freedom may coincide, they do so often in our Western culture. However, despite the "demilitarized zone," nuclear weapons, and massive famine, the people of North Korea have peace. They do not, unless they happen to live in the former corridor of mine fields, have to worry about enemies blowing them up when they take innocent walks or go over to chat with their neighbors. However, the government controls the arts, learning, and culture completely, ruthlessly, and leaves very few personal freedoms for the starving populace, who are kept in such ignorance that most do not realize that their state of living is not the same as any other country. Indeed, knowledge of the existence of other countries in general is not encouraged. This is a peaceful area, but only someone who had deranged and twisted definitions of "freedom" would say that they were free.
The same may be said of Cuba, China, Russia has no freedom of the press, in Venezuela they are considering to restrict a parent's right to name their child as they choose to only 100 names, in Turkmenistan, a country that has not gone to war since they separated from the USSR, is ruled by a man who controls all the books printed, has his image enshrined in statues everywhere, and his official title is "Father of All Turkmen." Peace hardly implies freedom. It merely means that people are able to go about their daily lives without having to fear an enemy gunning them down.
On to equality is life. Is it now? We are all born with natural handicaps. Naturally we are unequal. We are brought into life being born unequal. Some are blind, some are deaf, some have bodies that will make them good runners, some have bodies that will be considered stunningly gorgeous, some will be able to create music, others great works of literary art. If anything inequality is the where life begins. And ends, as speaking of unequal, we all have unequal lifespans. Unless the GNSP is planning to cut all our lives short at, say, 40, equality and life are two concepts going in the opposite directions.
The final point, that Truth is Salvation, is a slogan that has been heard plenty of times. Usually by victims of a religious inquisition. During the Salem Witch Trials plenty were convinced to confess to witchcraft when told that God would darn them for being liars, and that salvation would only come in the form of "truth" that they were witches. The Spanish inquisition tortured Jews in order to convert them to the truth, and thus salvation, of God. Usually truth and salvation are only paired in this context, the context of putting the body through Hell to ensure the soul's redemption in Heaven. There is no way you can tell me that is truth in such salvation. Indeed, often as not, one must lie in order to save oneself or ones' soul.
These are my arguments against the slogans. Hopefully they'll get people talking.
