Hitomi wiped the sweat of her face, making sure Wiki was walking right beside her. The pachirisu was too absorbed by their rocky surroundings, his sparkly eyes widened as he saw the never-ending trail. Hitomi frowned.

<Fascinating! I think we have stumbled onto the famous underground maze, Hitomi! I've only read about this place in the books, this is so amazing.>

"I'm scared.. We're lost, Wiki. You shouldn't have tried to poke the poor abra with a random stick, you know. Jentan abras are known to teleport people to places if they get ticked off, or when they're joking around," the blue-haired girl sighed. "I wonder if we can ever get out of here.." mumblemumble.

<It's okay, Hitomi. It was in the name of science! I'm sure we'll be able to figure out an exit.>

<Name of science, did you say?> a rock to their right asked. It opened its eyes to become a geodude. <Name of being annoying, if you ask me. Still, welcome to the Underground. I'll be your guide, at least until you come out again. Basically, I'll see to it that you don't get lost and can always go away when you like. My name is Murphy.>

He eyed the two critically, and then asked slowly: <You said your name was what, again? And that Pachirisu is Wiki? Is that some kind of flower? Not that it has to be, you understand.>

Hitomi beamed at their guide, a geodude!

Wiki made a face at it, mad at the rock pokemon for calling it annoying. <Murphy? What an annoying name,> the pachrisiu muttered under his breath looking away. Hitomi chose to ignore the personal differences between these two pokemon.

"Hey there, my name's Hitomi.. very nice to meet you," the young girl introduced herself shyly. "And this is Wiki, his name's based on an encyclopedia, actually.."

<Because I'm smart!> The pachirisu cut in by sticking his tongue out at Murphy.

Hitomi cleared her throat, "um, I was wondering if you can you take us to--"

<Where the minerals are!>

"Minerals?"

<You know, commonly found minerals in these caves that some pokemon choose to feed on. Since we're here already, we might as well have a good look around. It'll be a nice learning experience!> Wiki said grinning at his trainer, in a sort of pleading way.

Hitomi sighed, giving in, "okay, since we're here anyway, I guess.."

<All right, and seeing as you're not with the flower people,> the geodude said getting to his hands, <I'll show your the veins we have here. They are mainly deep in the underground, so we'll take this path heading down. I warn you, some strange pokemon are down there. And you might get unlucky in who you meet.>

They began to go down the tunnel, the geodude occasionally saying things like: <Quartz to your right. There are six common forms of quartz. The kind most often found in the Underground is rose, of course.> When they came to an intersection, one sloping down to the lef, and another sloping down to the right, he stopped. <Now which way would you like to-->

A squat boulder was next to what looked like a long venus flytrap, which, sensing the warmth of people quested towards the source of the noise stealthily, and bit into the cloth of what appeared to be a backpack someone was carrying. <Oh, phooey,> someone said in the dark. <No lunch for me.>

<Um, Miss Hitomi, please don't scream,> Murphy said nervously. <You appear to have a mawile's fake jaw attached to your backpack. They can be difficult to deal with, but it's not impossible.>

<I want lunch!> the mawile's short body complained.

Hitomi screamed.

The blue-haired girl started flapping her arms and kicking, "a m-mawile!?" Hitomi shrieked as Murphy tried calming herself down. Hitomi knew mawile. Weren't they those yellow pokemon with big jaws? One of them was trying to chew on her cute backpack right now?

Wiki was fascinated by the tour the geodude gave them. The pachirisu would often get excited and start bouncing to look at the quartz up closely, Hitomi scuttled closer to her starter to make sure he didn't get himself in trouble again 'in the name of science'.

Wiki shook his fist at the mawile, not really sure what was he suppose to do. If he angered the mawile he might start chewing on Hitomi's innocent blue head. <Get off of Hitomi's heead -- I mean, backpack, you jaw-face! We have lots of important stuff i-->

A red flashed appeared from inside the bag and a spheal popped out rolling and circling around everyone, <yo, yo, yo! Rollercoast's here! What's going ooon?>

Hito screamed again and rushed off to this dark looking path ahead of her. Anything was better than this.

The mawile, who, being heavy, although not the weight of most steel types hung onto the backpack as the girl ran. His jaw dropped it in front of him, and he began to rummage through it. He could use a good ham sandwich.

The geoudue sighed. <You, Wiki, stay with that one. I'll get your trainer. Goodness! What are they going to say, a guide losing his trainer?>

He stumped off down the path, catching up with Hitomi by virtue of knowing the tunnel better than she did, and not tripping over the rocks and hummocks in it's bed. <Hitomi? Hitomi? It's all right, you should come back. It's not a good idea to run off.>
