Shino walked through the street with his head down as he held on to the straps of the backpack on his shoulder. He walked in a slow pace, kicking the rocks on the ground out of his way. The wind was blowing through his hair. He was thinking deeply as he continued to walk. Shino was very nervous at that moment. He had finally left the house. He felt different because he would be out more often, not inside the house where he usually was.
When he reached the lab, he brushed his hands through his hair and gave out a big sigh. "This is it, you can do it!" Shino said to himself. He walked up to the door and knocked. He gripped his hands together as he waited for someone to open the door.

The professor opened the door, wobbling and juggling an ekans and a few books. "Eh! Sorry, come in before I drop everything." A few minutes later, Shino was inside, the books somehow made it into the shelves, and the ekans had simply wrapped herself around the professor's neck in a loving hug (Hana luvved him, even though she luvved annoying him just as much). Professor Cherry nodded. "Well, you're Shino, eh? You're here to get your starters, of course. Now, before I rush into anything, I'm sure you know about the group system, right? If you forgot to read up on it, here." He handed Shino a pamphlet on the system. "Basically, what you need to know for the lab is that you get three starters, one for each group. The groups are determined by level, so you get one level 5 Pokemon - this is your Group 1 starter, a Group 2 level 25 Pokemon, and a level 45 starter for Group 3. You get to choose what you get for Group 1, but your other two are random. However, I do try to give you a balanced team to start out with." The old man pointed to a list on the wall. "These are the Pokemon you can choose from for your Group 1 starter. If you have any questions, are feeling indecisive and want advice, or want to meet a few, just say so." Shino came in the lab with a smile on his face. He was too nervous and shy to say anything at that moment. He felt guilty for not introducing himself.
Don't worry! He knew who you were. Just try to forget it! He told himself.
Shino just nodded along to the Professor as he explained the group system. He read the pamphlet thoroughly to make sure he was doing everything right this time. After he finished reading, he walked over to the list on the wall and looked at the available pokemon.
"I'd like one of the new Sinnoh pokemon. Umm, maybe a Piplup?" He asked the professor, making sure if he has one in the lab.

The professor's smile widened. "Of course! We just got our first shipment of piplup from the breeders today! Is there any particular gender or personality you're interested in, hm?"

Shino's smile widened as well. He was starting to be more confident. "I don't really care about the gender. But I want a brave and loyal pokemon." He told the professor.

"Alright...I have a female who fits that personality just fine." The professor nodded, scratching a note to himself on a pad of paper pulled from one of his lab coat pockets. "Give...piplup...three...to...Shino...got it." Looking up, he lead Shino to a table covered with an array of differently-colored Pokedexes. "One more decision for you until you're out of here. Which color do you want for your Pokedex? We have red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, purple, and brown. I'm afraid we're out of the grayscale colors..."

"Yay! A Piplup!" Shino said with excitement. Shino then looked at the different pokedexes on the table. "Hmm, I'd like a dark blue pokedex."

((Long Final Lab post of Doom thread coming up))
Professor Cherry nodded agreeably. "Just pick up the one you'd like from the table, then, I'll go set up your starter package."
He put the information he had so far into the computer, and waited for a few moments as the suggestions for a starter package was spit back out at him. He shuffled off to the back room to get the poison-psychic package.
Returning only moments later he put a white plastic shopping bag down, and lifted out it's contents, one at a time, hading them to Shino.
"All right, these are your five unused pokeballs. Use them for whatever need you feel. This is your group two starter, a male nidoran. This is your group three starter, a ralts. Finally, here is your requested female piplup. Here is your berry bag. It has several oran berries in it already. Don't forget to keep it stocked. And finally you have your pokedex."
"Now," Professor Cherry walked over to the map on the wall. "You can go one of three ways when you exit the lab. Either go on Route One, here," he pointed at the squiggly brown line that followed a thin squiggly blue one. "Route One leads to Sapphire City and the ice type gym. This area is for group one pokemon only, and since your group one starter doesn't have any advantages or disadvantages against Arisa, you might want to start here.
"The next option is Route Three, which is this one, here," Professor Cherry pointed at a gray line that meandered through grass, forest, and cliff alike, seemingly uncaring of its surroundings. "This leads to Florak Town. The grass gym, run by Botan can be found there. It might be a good bet, as your group two pokemon is a poison type. Anyway, this route, and all towns and roads after it, are home to group two pokemon only.
"Finally you could opt to take Route Five, which as you guessed is the group three area of Jenta. This route leads into Sunstone tunnel, and from there to Nga, and Bahti's steel type gym. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to challenge her until you catch some pokemon that can effectively attack her steel types. Anyway, those are your choices. Good luck on your pokemon Journey."

((Wow thanks for the ralts!..and the other pokemon of course! =D))
Shino sat down and waited for the Professor with his pokemon. He couldn't stop smiling from all his excitement. As the Professor returned to the room, he stood up and quietly stared at him. Shino jumped around happily as the Professor gave him his starter package. "Thank you so much Professor! I love them!" Shino then packed everything into his pack. "I'll be heading off to route 3 for now. Thanks for everything Proferssor. I'll visit you someday." Shino left the lab and waved goodbye to the Professor.
