(That's the literal translation from translation2.paralink.com/ which I use for all my translations to or from German or most other languages. It's COOL!) A teen stepped off the elevator in a skyscraper holding the Tejan lab. Unusual for a boy his age, he wore a pair of slacks and a button-down shirt. He had an air of neatness about him, while himself wasn't exactly neat, just proper. As he walked, his long hair shifted slightly, getting in his eyes. As he brushed his hair from his eyes he sighed. "I really need to do something with all this hair..." muttered the teen. Now a few steps into the lab, and his hair out of his eyes, he took a glance around the lab. No sign of the professor... Strange. "He lives up to his praise in my hometown..." he commented. "Very neat, very clean... I wonder where the professor is..." While he waited, he decided it would be a fine time to look over the starters he'd seen on a shelf against the wall. "Not many for new trainers... But I could see why these were chosen..." (FEAR ME! I still suck at starting!)

Professor Cerasus walked in, checking his clipboard. "You are two minutes early, Mister Klein. However, we can begin now, if you would like." Shooting a glance to Fuyu and Fuuko, the seviper pair who readied themselves at their respective computers, and then looked back at Richard. "You already received most of the information about Tejan when you made an appointment, so I'll skip straight to the starters. Our standard Tejan set includes slugma, bellsprout, corphish, magnemite, and rattata. However, as of this moment, we are also offering sandshrew, diglett, koffing, volbeat, whismur, squirtle, chimchar, and treecko."
The professor nodded to his seviper. "You may choose any of those Pokemon with something close to the gender and personality of your choice, or you may choose to pick a number and-or take the type quiz. You may do one, both, or neither, and the Pokemon you get is added to your choice list - it is not mandatory that you take it." He then handed over a half-sheet of paper with the quiz on it.
"So, Mister Klein, what will it be?"
((Zar quiz of type-ness:
Question 1: In a battle, would you rather attack: - A) from far away? - B) up close? Question 2: Would you rather take part in: - C) a challenge of wits? - D) a challenge of strength? Question 3: Would you rather be awake during: - E) the day? - F) the night? Question 4: Do you generally prefer: - G) hot colors? (red, orange, yellow) - H) cold colors? (green, blue, purple)))

Richard looked behind him, not expecting the professor to be there. His internal clock had been a bit behind in recent days, so it was no wonder he was early. He stood up straight from his slightly hunched over position in which he was looking over the various Pokèmon on the shelves. "Hello professor. Apologies for being early, I've been off in my timing since I arrived in Tejan..."
He stopped and listened to the professor before going on. "Hmm... Koffing and Squirtle are two of my favorites... But Sandshrew and Diglett get such useful and powerful attacks..." he stated, mulling it over. "I think I'll take the quiz, professor."
(Fear my suckiness!)

The professor raised an eyebrow, glancing at the half-sheet of paper the boy had with him. "Then take it."
Fuyu just hissed, and slithered away from his computer. What was so bad about picking a letter that nobody seemed to want to do it anymore?

Richard looked down at the paper and left several marks on the paper before handing it to the professor. "Here you go, professor."
His marks were to be expected, if the person who saw them knew Richard. He'd marked down up close as an attack strategy, wits for a challenge, he'd rather be up at night, and he favored cold colors.
(Blaugh, not much to DO there...
Mori-kun edit: Richard's Answers = B - C - F - H)

The professor glanced at the paper, and ran down a mental checklist. "That gets you a seedot to add to the list of possible starters as well. Do you want to take it?"

Richard was silent for a few moments. A Seedot was useful in a few ways... Especially its final form. But he'd also heard there was a Bellsprout here. Which was more of a help in reaching his goal? After much though, he finally spoke up.
"I'll take the seedot," he stated.
(HORRIBLE!)

"All right then," the Professor replied. He walked over to a carefully labeled shelf filled with pokeballs, and got down one from the top with a little jumping. Walking back over to the desk he grabbed a pokedex from the pile by the computer, and laid the two out in front of Richard. "Here is you Tejan pokedex, and as you might have comprehended, that is your pokemon's pokeball."
He reached under the counter, and pulled out three potions, before reaching again, and getting out five pokeballs. "That completes your starter package, I believe."
((The starter package: 1 seedot (level 5) 1 standard Tejan Pokedex 3 potions 5 Pokeballs
See below for starter information: Seedot Name: ? ? ? Gender: Male Level: 5 Moves: Bide, Harden Special Ability: Chlorophyll - speed increases when sunny. Personality: Grumpy and sarcastic, this little acorn doesn't see a point to anything, and doesn't like anyone. He is never short a snarky comment, either.

"Thank you, professor," Richard stated respectfully as he grabbed the items. "I will be sure to take care of this Seedot." He placed the items into his pack, then hooked the ball onto his belt. "May we meet again, on the battlefield."
The boy turned to leave the lab, scrolling through the various options on his new Pokedex. This is quite an interesting area. Perhaps this will lead me to that Pokemon. He grinned as he landed on his Seedot's Pokedex page. And I shouldn't have much to fear with a Shiftry. It was obvious he was already forming a plan to achieve his goal, but it was also obvious that it would be a long while before he could even begin to put it to any use.

As he walked with his nose buried in his pokedex, Richard was actually in danger of bumping into people. He had managed the empty elevator with success, but he was now outside in the commercial traffic, and there were a lot of people walking around, and enjoying the summer sunshine.
Eventually, as he rounded a corner, the inevitable happened. A rotund thirteen year old cannoned into Richard. The boy was so surprised that he sat down on the side walk. "Hey!" the boy yelled. "Watch where you're going, ya slowpoke! You should be lucky that I'm not going to beat you black and blue with my pokemon!"

"I find it hard to believe the would allow one so violent," Richard paused, looking toward the boy. "A Pokemon. Pokemon are living beings, which means they can be overworked, and one who flies into a rage and threatens to battle would likely do so." He shut his Pokedex and pocketed it. "Durch die Forschung und Frieden kann Wahrheit gefunden werden."
With that, he was on his way. He was not turning down a battle specifically, but rather a battle with a trainer. Before battling any trainers, he would need a team. In order to get a team, he would have to battle wild Pokemon. Richard would have to avoid trainers for a while.

((Truth can be found through research/preparation and freedom, huh?))
"Oh yeah?!" the thirteen year old asked, in a stunning example of classic debate. "Oh yeah?! Well take you and your stupid language and stuff it!"

(Craptastic translation program, I'm trying to find a better one, it's all I got. The intended phrase was something along the lines of "Truth comes through studies and peace." Basically trying to avoid a battle by giving a pacifistic statement.)
Richard sighed, shook his head, and continued on his merry way. As much as he would love to argue with someone whose entire defense was "Oh yeah," it would have to wait. He had a Pokemon to find, a region to explore, and many questions left unanswered. Perhaps after he has caught this nightmare Pokemon, he could return and beat this simpleton senseless. Then again, wanton violence was against his personal philosophy.

There were many options for activities all over Ruby City. Signs, billboards, and even graffitti pointed the way to this interesting tidbit, and that interesting fact. To Richard's right, there was an add for the Hoshiwa Department store, located only a street away, and selling rare candies for the low, low price of 2000 pyen. On the pavement someone had scrawled "Who's in time to catch Carmen Diego? Hahahahahaha! I beat her, suckahs!" in green spray paint. A more modest tourist information sign claimed that the Furuhashi Building contained the gym on the eighteenth floor, and pointed the way.
Across the street, several people were gathered around a machop going through her moves. The man who owned her was talking a proud voice, clearly wanting everyone to see how wonderful his pokemon really was. "I got her from the Breeding tower -- you know, Chiiaka. I was quite impressed. You have any idea how rare female machop are? It was an absolute steal! And just watch her: Kali, karate chop!"
Further up the street a doorman stood in front of a building labeled "Kobayashi: Wilderness Simulator" above the door. Several other people, who looked rather like trainers were walking through it, and a thin, long billboard stuck out from the building, showing the faces of six pokemon one right above the other. At the top of this promotional add was a gastly, then a starly, and underneath it, mankey, poochyena, wurmple, and sentret.
