A portal opened about six feet from the ground. Inside was a huge world with naught but dark colors such as black, purple, and red. From this portal, a yellow beam shot down and a boy of about 15 materialized with an Abra on his head.
"Thanks for the ride, Cyc," said the boy as he looked at his surroundings. "You can go home now..."
The Abra yawned and teleported itself away, leaving the boy alone. He peered around at his surroundings with his currently-hazel eyes.
"Nice place... Great view from up here, too," He grinned as he went to walk forward, only to fall off a large rock. "Must... Hurt... Cyc..."
Once he'd straightened himself and brushed himself off, he approached a shack, hoping it was the proper place. "Y'know, these things need some kind of identification... A name on the door, a number... Somethin'..." With that, he knocked on what he hoped was Professor Kauri's shack.

A middle-aged man opened the door, holding an egg. A nincada scuttled around to peer out from behind his feet, and if one looked inside, they would see around five more in the entryway.
"Good morning," he said kindly, shifting his hold on the nincada egg. "Are you looking for Professor Kauri's house, or are you here to buy a nincada?" He paused, eyeing the boy. "I would assume the former...you don't look like you've been here long. Kauri's house is down the path to your left. It's the biggest one, and it's got its lights on."

"Oh, thanks. Whoever's in charge should really think of putting some obvious identification on these places..." he suggested as he turned to leave. "And I would have gotten a Nincada if I had the money. They're pretty cool... For non-Psychics, anyway. Besides, Shedinja's awesome."
He headed down the left path toward Kauri's house. "I wonder if there are any Psychic-types here... There weren't any guidebooks for this place before I left, so I don't really know what to expect from the Professor..." As he came to Kauri's hut he looked around for any sort of identification at all... Nothing was found. "I hope this is the place..."
He knocked on her door, hoping this time to get who he was looking for.

A sleepy-looking, dark-skinned, black-haired, sweatshirt-sporting young woman answered the door with a rather irate-looking wurmple in the background. "Whad'ya want?" she mumbled sleepily. What between the eight Pokemon she recently received for starter-giving (the wurmple included), her reptilian friends from those-who-hate-dragons (incidentally, she hated them, too), and the fact that the heating broke during the night (making it way too hot - she would have loved if it was too cold, but too hot...no sleep...at all) really didn't make for a happy, awake Kauri.
The wurmple chattered angrily for a bit, then stalked off to go find his own food. The young woman stared after him, then shifted her attention back to the boy. "I'm Agatha Kauri," she said with a yawn. "Can I help you?"

""I'm J.R. Waver. I just arrived via evil Abra." J.R. noticed the Wurmple in the room and turned his attention to it slightly. "I'm here to get my Pokèmon. I was kinda hoping you... Had a Psychic-type," he said, sort of droning off as the enraged Wurmple slunk off. "Preferably one not as mad as that Wurmple..."
He turned his attention to the woman before him, taking note of things such as the most obvious, she seemed like she just woke up... Or didn't sleep at all. "However, I'm willing to accept others in the absence of a Psychic-type. Do you have a list I could look at or something?"

She yawned, and shoved a crumpled list she'd recently printed up (and stuck in her jeans pocket) towards the boy. "Here ya go. Though I gotta warn you - a couple other people came by earlier and had their eyes on certain ones. I got the wurmple (no clue how on this one) and the sunkern in a two-way battle of little kids over a starter and somebody is two seconds from gettin' the numel (he just had to step out to take a phone call). So, if you fancy a shellder or a geodude, not only will you be unopposed, but you get a choice of gender and personality." She then paused, tapping her dark lips thoughtfully. "Wait..."
Reaching over to her desk, she grabbed her cell phone. "Voicemail," she muttered, punching a few buttons then listening. A couple minutes later, she brought the device away from her ear, yawned, and put it away. "The Delmara professor has an extra ledyba he wants to dump on somebody, if you're interested. She's a girl, by the way." The young woman put her hands on her hips, and gave J. R. a look that tried to emulate some form of awakeness. "Well, what'll it be?"

"I hear Cloyster can be a pretty amazing Pokèmon if you raise it right as a Shellder... But Rock-types can have amazing attack power..." He thought for a while, pitting the Rock/Ground-type against the Water-type in his mind. He thought over the different attacks each one could use, and their evolutions could use.
It was a good ten minutes before he spoke again. "Are Shellder or Geodude available anywhere else in the region?"

She yawned. "Yup. All of the shellder and geodude I offer are local. I really don't have much in the way of advice on the shellder/geodude debate...would you like to meet them?"
Without waiting to hear an answer, she let out the two shellder onto the large table with the geodude.
The male shellder looked around, clearly bored, and stared up at the newcomer with a detatched gaze.
The female shellder yawned, disappointed she wasn't in a battle. She wanted to test her defenses...
One of the female geodude glared at JR, wondering if he was really stupid enough not to be able to choose even a species on his own.
The other female geodude yawned, lost interest in JR, and began drawing on a piece of paper.
The male geodude grunted a challenge out to the boy, wanting to see him to something impressive.
Kauri yawned. "So...which one will it be?"

J.R. was, for the most part, lost in thought. One of the Shellder seemed a bit too spacey, and the other apparently just wanted to fight to test her abilities, a good quality, but if it should lose, it may become depressed, which is never a good thing when dealing with a Pokèmon that could shut itself in a shell for days on end.
The Geodude weren't much better, though. One of them apparently didn't think much of him. Another one seemed to have a short attention span, and the last one just looked like it wanted him to preform for it.
"I suppose I'll the female Shellder," he said, somewhat decisively, somewhat lost in thought "She seems to just want to fight to test herself, and if she loses a fight, she may become depressed, but I suppose it's a good test of my training abilities to take on a Pokèmon I doubt I'd be able to handle easily..."
(Woot! I actually put in a kinda-sorta well thought out post! That's new.)

Kauri shrugged, glancing over at the shellder. She muttered something about all trainers basically being the same sort of person in differnt clothing, and Kauri took that as a "yes, I'm okay with this trainer" sort of comment.
So she zapped the girl shell back into her Pokeball, and handed it over to JR. She then leaned back to grab a clunky, drab, grey metal object off of her desk, and toss it at JR. "Here. This is the 'official Miteinjan Pokedex'. Have fun trying to make it work, since half of it is in garbled Japanese - oh, and the English generally has bad grammar. It should work as your account card for money - we don't trust the locals enough to have coins and bills - and as information on your Pokemon. If you get chips made from Jenta, such as translator chips or map chips or something, you can add stuff to it. It's not as exciting as it sounds, though." The young woman shrugged.
"Well, you're done, now. There's other stuff to do 'round town, though, but not here. So you can leave."
((Stat-time!
Shellder Gender: female Level: 5 Nickname: you choose Ability: Shell Armor - opponent's attacks cannot critically hit Attacks: Tackle, Withdraw, Bubblebeam Personality: Serious about battling, but not about friendships. She thinks of her trainer more as a coach than a friend - you really need to work with her to get her to come out of her shell. She rarely likes to talk about opinions and things, but really only about strategy. And battling. She really likes battling.
Shellder don't learn any water attacks until level 25...so I guess they'll both get the egg move Bubblebeam, then...-_-))

As J.R. left Kauri's lab, he said "Well, thanks for the Shellder, I'll be sure to raise her well."
He went off to explore the town. However, just as he exited the building, he felt something land on his head. He took whatever it was off and looked at it. "Huh, a translator chip... Nice." As soon as he inserted it into his 'Pokèdex,' three more items fell on his head, these much heavier than the chip, and a bit painful. He looked down to see three Pokèballs around him. "Now this is just getting annoying..."
He placed the Pokèballs into his pack just as a white light from the heavens surrounded him an d a Pokèmon egg came floating down from the sky. "Angel-egg. Nice." The egg floated its way down into his pack. "Man I hope stuff like this doesn't happen all the time..." After a few minutes, he decided to skip the tour, in case anything else fell on his head, and just move on to Fog Path. And so he did.
As he approached the limits of Coast Village, he looked at his 'Pokèdex." It was nothing like the Johto 'dex. Partially because it was half in a language he couldn't understand, half in a language he spoke, but couldn't make heads or tails of on his device. He sighed, hoping to find a tech-wise Pokèmon as he entered Fog Path.

((Lol, Angel Egg...let's do our best together, Hikaru!
Oh, and are you stopping off at the shack of much stuff? I can't tell...))
As he walked past, nearly passing her without a second glance, a kindly old woman looked up from her chair. Behind her was a shack crammed full of things, and she withdrew an antidote from it.
She held the antidote out with shaky hands, a drooly smile on her face. "Take..."

(Hikaru?)
"Uh... 'Kaaaaaay..." He slowly reached out and took the antidote. "Anything I can do in return?"
He looked the antidote over, making sure there wasn't anything wrong with it... Nothing visible, she was just creepy.

((Fiiiiiine, don't understand my reference...YOU were the one who said "angel egg"...))
She smiled, shaking her head slowly. She liked giving out her things to new trainers - it made her feel like she was making the world a better place, while making her feel less lonely. It was like a part of her could once again travel the land...
And she really didn't have anything better to do in the last years of her life.

"Well, thanks, bye." With that rather quick statement, he headed off toward the Fog Path. He mainly just wanted to get away from the items falling from the sky and the creepy drooling old women.
"This place is creepy..."
