Snolage and Snoang by Eevee-kun

The idea for this came after seeing a picture of a Golden Retriever / Siberian Husky mix. I think this might replace the other ice dog Pokemon I was working on because this one came from a more developed thought then the other one, but I might still mix some of Upski's data into these.



Name: Snolage (Sno-lij)
Type: Ice
Ability: Snow Blend - When hailing, this Pokemon gets to dodge one attack. In other words, this Pokemon evasion is increased during a hail.

Description:
Snolage are small dog Pokemon that have fluffy white fur with grayish markings. They can get up to two feet six inches tall and a meter long from nose to tail. Their bodies are slightly skinny, but it lies beneath thick fur that protects its owner. They have a pit on each cheek that has three whiskers on them to sense wind direction and pointed ears to capture the crunch someone approaching in the snow.

Pokedex information:
Nicknamed Frostfurs, Snolage can disappear in light snow. This ability helps them to hunt in their harsh surroundings. They can hunt at anytime of day because of their ability, although this ability isn't helpful for taking down stronger creatures.

The older these Pokémon get, the more aggressive they become. Some watchers say it's because they're destined to be loners if they don't evolve.

Name: Snoang (Sno-ang)
Type: Ice
Ability: Snow Blend - When hailing, this Pokemon gets to dodge one attack. In other words, this Pokemon evasion is increased during a hail.

Description:
Snoang are large wolf-dog Pokemon that have fluffy white and gray fur with bluish markings. Their height can reach four feet while they can get up to seven feet long from nose to tail. They have built bodies underneath their warm thick fur. The whiskers on the pits are longer than Snolage's. This fact allows them to sense even the slightest change in wind direction while their pointed ears focus in on even the slightest sounds. Their teeth are now grown in, structured to cut through thick hides and furs.

Pokedex information:
Nicknamed Frostfangs, Snoang hunt in tight packs to take down their prey. They retain the ability to bend into the falling hail and snow, but long gone are the days of hiding from stronger creatures. Snoang are notorious for taking on any Pokémon that comes on their turf, from Swinub to Abomasnow.

With their increased strength, they attack with precision in packs to hunt larger snow dwelling animals. The pack is structured so no one Pokémon can take all the glory, and although in fights and brawls happen, they always remain tight with each other.

If a trainer captures one of them, it isn't uncommon for the whole pack to challenge the trainer into multiple battles. Only when the pack finds the trainer strong and smart will they allow their pack mate to leave them.

Question, does it really need to be a three teired evolution?

Nope. That's why I put question marks in the evolution section. I was planning on doing one, but I couldn't come up with a design for one, so I'll probably make a alt form or leave it be. (Don't feel like working on it more right now... It'll probably stay a two teired evo chain)

I'm stuck between trying to create another ice type dog chain or combining my new designs into Snolage's current chain with some adjustments. Here's how I would do it.

Snolage, at level 18, has a choice to learn Ice Fang. If it does learn it, this cancels out the other chain unless the move is deleted. Then at level 25, it evolves into Snoang.

But if the move isn't learned, it evolves at level 18 into Frosian. This form would trade speed for a slightly better defense than Snoang has. When it's done evolving, Frosian can learn Aurora Beam instead of Ice fang.

At level 32, Frostian would evolve into Bliztriev. Heavy and big, this Pokémon would be almost pure defense and power, much more different than Snoang.

Because Frostian and Bliztriev no longer have their high rate of speed, the snow cloak ability is lost. To make up that lost, it able to use Ice coat, a ability that allows them to increase their defenses by getting hit by ice attacks.

I'm trying to find a good reason to want a Snoang as equally as having a Bliztriev (other than Snoang being like a teenage outcast), but all I can think about is evasion vs. defense. Their move pools would change to reflect their stats.

On the other hand, I can make Bliztreiv and Frosian Upski's (who would get a better name to match theirs...) evolution chain. This would create two ice chains rather than a webbed one. I believe either way I go, I should have the ideas and designs for my ice starter for my Jenta triangle done with, then all I have to do is to better design my steel and ground starters and finish their lines.

Another reason I just came up with is that snolage have a tamed evo and a wild evo. If they need to hunt to survive, it would make sense to learn an attack that can both freeze and flinch your prey, but if their job was to assist a trainer in battle or help rescuers in cold climate conditions, it would make more sense to learn an attack that can be used at a distance and freeze water that needs to be treaded over. Bliztriev would also be used in rescues because it can fight off wild Snoangs... Not sure, but it's a concept I thinking about.

I'm anti-alternate evos since Sinnoh. <winces away from Galade> Do the separate evo chain, especially since if you're gonna make Jentan starters, it would be a good idea to finish them.

Update: Snolage's profile is completed. I don't want to do anything more with it currently. The move set was made to match its personality; thus, it can't learn bite naturally, but learns faint attack instead. Its evolved form should be done soon since their not much more work to do with it.

Update: This pokemon line is done. With Snoang finished, I find myself looking over their stat ratios. Both are subject to change if I don't see them fit into their personalities. The move Endure is learned when Snolage evolves because it's former self doesn't have the defensive stats necessary to use it. Other than that and a few move changes, I'm calling this one done. (Have to find a better attack than Ice beam. I don't like the idea of my physical ice pokemon having a strong special attack. Should have a stronger physical one than Ice Fang.)

Taking your advice, MF, I created an ice version of Double-edge, like Flare Blitz is a fire version of it. This attack doesn't match Snoang name, but does match its personality. I'm also think about making them learn Beat-up, but I debating this one in my head right now.

I also creatated a new physical ice move early this morning. Try it out if you like it, or we can keep it for other pokemon.

Type: Ice (Physical)
Base Power: 90
Accuracy: 100
Description: A pokemon calls down a sudden shower of snow and creates an triangular, hovering icy barrier in front of them. Then they rush at the opponent, pushing the snow before them with the barrier. If the snow doesn't swamp the opponent, then the barrier at will give them a good smack, and toss them out of the way.

Creator notes: Based on Surf, and all of the snow plows that I see during winter. The triangular barrier would ideally look like one of the snow plow fenders/cow catchers seen on older trains. Obviously this attack replies primarily on brute strength, rather than speed, as a speedy pokemon is slower than a strong pokemon if they have to push tons of snow ahead of them.

Also, as for stat ratio, to fit the personality of Snolage, I would actually make Speed not quite as powerful as Attack (clearly this is a heavy hitting pokemon. It runs, but that doesn't seem to be it's main thing -- and with huskies, in any case, it's not that they're fast, it's that they have endurance). I'd also bump up Defense and down play Special Defense, since it seems to get more defensive and snappish as it grows older (besides, Defense seems to have more to do with physical endurance than Special defense would).

My stats for snolage: Attack > Defense > Speed = HP > Special Attack

Snoang would follow the same modle, although this time attack and defense would be equal, and the HP would be higher than speed, since the pokemon becomes bigger, thus gaining more energy and mass for hit points, but the Speed would not increase as heavily since most of the muscles are attuned for attack, rather than the "sprint" muscles*. Snolang probably has very good long distance running muscles, but in a battle those don't equate to speed.

My stat ratio: Attack > Defense > HP > Special Defense = Speed > Sp. Attack

* For those of you who didn't get the lecture in Gym or health or biology, there are two versions of muscles out there. Those that allow their possessor to make quick sprints very easily, (I think oxygen flows through them better -- but it's been three years, and I can't remember exactly why), and those that allow their possessor to do long distance running with ease (I'm pretty certain it's because their tissues deal better with fatigue poisons). Some of us have a majority of one type, some of us a majority of the other. Those who have a high speed stat in battle would most likely be sprinter types, putting on short bursts of amazing speed. Long distance types would have some speed, but not insanely cool amazing sneasel disappearing act speed.

I like those stats better than the ones I came up with. I couldn't think right about their biology and how it effect their stats. (Should have taken AP Bio instead of AP Chem ><;; Never really learned about the muscle difference) What you said makes a lot of sense to me that I couldn't grasp while creating them.

I like the attack. It has the base power that I wanted for it and would fit quite well with a pokemon that works in packs. (Kinda like whales and dolphins when they herd krill and fish, but they would only focus on herding one animal around) Woot! Hmm... maybe I should make them learn both...
