Bryquaine was cold, wet, and above all, lost. It had been several days since he'd run away from home, and now he was so thoroughly lost that there was no way that he could have returned even if he'd wanted to. Admittedly, running away might have been a little bit ill-considered as an action, but what else was he going to do? He didn't want to take over the family business as his father wanted him to.
Just how running away from home was going to help him achieve his goal of becoming a Pokemon breeder, he wasn't sure. In fact, being lost out here with absolutely no idea of where he was could only be considered a minor improvement on his previous situation. That was, however, until his bright blue eyes caught sight of the Lab.
Bryquaine had heard of such places, and he felt a little flicker of hope. Labs were places that, he had heard, gave Pokemon to would-be trainers. And that, Bryquaine decided, was a good first step in the direction of his ultimate goal. In order to breed Pokemon, one needed to have Pokemon, after all. So he stepped to the door, looking speculatively at it.
The thought of becoming a Pokemon trainer had never occurred to him before, and so he was not completely sure what to expect. Still, it seemed the most sensible and logical thing to do, so he knocked firmly on the door of the Lab.

(Have anything in mind? Because you just might have the best thread to date, which would mean you get the 'Mystery Pokemon'. Or you could choose your own, up to you.)
"One moment please!" yelled a voice from inside the Lab. Then, slightly more muffled, "No, Hana, stay away, no-" -crash- "Haru, please, you really should act like a nice, mature Ekans, so just calm do-" -thump- Finally, the noises stopped, and the Professor opened the door. "I'm terribly sorry about that," he said. "Hana and Haru are impossible, really. So I returned them. But please, come in. Were you here for a Pokemon? And how about a towel and some tea?"

((Ooooh! Mystery Pokemon me, just because I'm that curious! And I hadn't yet decided what Bryquaine would pick given the choice... so surprise it is!))
He had listened to the sounds coming from within the lab with a concerned frown, a hint of amusement, and just a little disbelief. He would have thought that a Professor would not have so much difficulty dealing with his Pokemon, but on the other hand, Bryquaine decided that he would have given a great deal to see just what Hana and Haru were doing to cause such apparent chaos.
At the invitation to go inside, though, he did, stepping into the lab and looking around with an almost curious air. He'd never been inside a lab before, and so he was naturally wondering just what they actually looked like. And moreover, what purpose they served other than giving Pokemon to new trainers. Presumably they had some other purpose as well, although Bryquaine had never been able to determine exactly what that was.
"I think I'm here for a Pokemon, yes," he said politely, nodding to Professor Cherry. "A towel and some tea would also be welcome. It's... extremely cold and wet outside," he added. He left out the fact that he'd been out there walking in the cold and wetness for several days, resulting in a great deal of being personally cold and wet.
To mention it would have sounded like complaining, to his mind, and he didn't really resent it too much. At least it was his choice to be out there, even if he was cold and wet; it was a matter of freedom to make his own choices. Of course, his current choice was to accept the Professor's offer, since although he didn't resent the cold and wetness, it wasn't exactly the most pleasant of experiences.

(Alright. I've been wanting to give this to someone, but the only other person wouldn't been Avalon-san, and she didn't want it. Now, here's how this particualr case works. You'll choose an Egg, and a Pokemon. But the pokemon can't be one of the rarer ones, because that wouldn't be fair. There are three Eggs, and the one you choose will hatch into your Mystery Pokemon eventually.)
"Yes, quite." said the Prof, heading towards the kitchen in search of said objects. He thought he'd heard something in the boys reply, but he dismissed it. Probably just cold. Still, he rather liked him. "Please, sit down." He returned with the tea, and a fluffy purple towel with Ekans print on it. "Now, you seem like a responsible young man, how would you like to take two Pokemon with you? Or rather, one Pokemon, one Egg. I found several mysterious Eggs in different places recently, and I'm really not sure what type of Eggs they are. It might be interesting for you to take one along and see how it progresses."

Bryquaine took the fluffy purple towel and used it to dry his wet hair, before draping the towel across his shoulders and sipping at the tea he had been given. He considered the proposition of taking with him both a Pokemon and a mysterious egg, giving it a great deal of thought.
It did appeal to him; he wanted to become a Pokemon breeder, after all, and that would ultimately result in a certain amount of caring for eggs, albeit ones he would have some idea of the contents of. The 'mysterious' part of 'mysterious Egg' just added to the mystery of it all. Funnily enough.
"Alright, I'm interested," he said, smiling slightly and then taking another sip of the warm tea. "Always wanted to be a Pokemon breeder, so this'd be good practice, right? So... how do we do this? I've never done this before."

"It's really quite simple." beamed Professor Cherry. "All you have to do is choose a Pokemon, then once you've done that, choose an Egg. I have three different Eggs, you may take one with you."

Bryquaine nodded as he absorbed all this, and he cast his mind back to the list of Pokemon the lab offered; he'd seen it pinned up in a fairly obvious place outside the entrance. Then, reaching a decision, he drained the rest of his tea from his cup and looked at Professor Cherry with a smile. "I think I saw Mareep on the list. Could I have one of those?" he asked. It might, perhaps, be seen as a rather odd choice, but there had been a flock of Mareep living close to his home while he was growing up, and he'd come to rather like them.

"Of course you may." said Professor Cherry. "Were you looking for any particular personality in your Mareep, or do you want to take a chance and take whatever comes out of the Pokeball?"

"I think I'd prefer one that's not too hyperactive or annoying, if that's possible?" Bryquaine requested, realising he was probably being rather demanding, especially given all that Professor Cherry had done for him. And offered him, for that matter; he was still rather stunned by the offer of the egg, after all.

"Oh yes, of course." the Prof replied. "Most people prefer less...annoying Pokemon. Try this one." He reached for the top of one of his many shelves, and grabbed a Pokeball. "You should like him." He placed the ball on the table, and in a flash of light a small-ish Mareep appeared on the table. He blinked a couple times, then focused on Bryquaine. <Oh, hello.> He stamped his foot once, as if to show that he was alert, then lay down on the table. "He's still rather young," the Professor explained, "but he has a level head, so you may like him." <Are you a trainer?> bleated the Mareep.

Bryquaine found himself liking the young Mareep already. "Yes, I suppose I am. My name is Bryquaine," he replied, considering that 'trainer' was probably the most accurate description for him at this point in time. "We should probably talk for a bit, make sure we'll get along..." he commented, before studying the electric Pokemon for a few moments. "Do you have a name I can call you by? And are you interested in travelling with a trainer?" he asked, deciding that was the most obvious question to ask; no matter how much he liked the Mareep, he wouldn't force him to come with him.

<My name is Natsu, though you can call me what you want. I'm not sure the name suits me anyway, considering I was born in Winter.> He paused, as if considering. <I've never travelled with a trainer before, but I'm sure it would be good to get out of the Lab and go somewhere.>
(Props if you can tell me what Natsu means.)

((Natsu means 'summer'.))
"Natsu is a good name, even if you were born in winter. It matches the summery colouring of your fleece," Bryquaine complemented with a slight smile. "I'm not really sure what being a trainer fully entails, but I guess that means we'll just be learned together, don't you think? What kind of stuff do you like doing, anyway?" he asked in a distinctly conversational tone, curious about how a Pokemon lived, and what kind of things they liked. He'd pretty much come to the conclusion that he liked Natsu already.

(Woo. Have a cookie.)
Natsu puffed up with pride, though he was already so puffy it was hard to tell. <I like eating Pecha berries, laying outside the Lab near Route One and talking to wild Pokemon who bring me tails of battles, and listening to the Professor's talks about other Pokemon to his colleagues.>

((Wheeee! I love cookies! )) "Well, if you like talking to wild Pokemon and hearing the Professor's talking about about other Pokemon, then perhaps traveling would be the best thing for you. We can find some battles, perhaps, or just go and see what's out there. I'm sure we can find some Pecha berries," Bryquaine said thoughtfully, smiling at the puffed up Mareep. "If you'd like to come with me, that is?" he asked after another moment.

<Very much so.> was Natsu's calm response. Or, it would have been calm, had there not been an underlying layer of -HAPPY- in his voice.
(Short. >< But I have homework. Lots. Stupid make up work...-grumble-)

Bryquaine smiled, easily detecting the happiness in the Mareep's tone. "Alright then. We'll travel together. I'll be your trainer, and you'll be my Pokemon," he said, just to clarify. It seemed that he and Natsu would get on quite well, and should in theory work well together, which was always a good way for them to begin their career.

The Professor smiled. "I see you two are getting along quite well. Would you like to choose your Egg now?"

Bryquaine nodded. "Yes please," he said, looking at the professor, and idly wondering just what could be inside these eggs, and what external differences there would be for him to choose from.

(Subtle, aren't we? X3 This should be fun. Which one, which one?)
"Just a moment then." said the Professor, already retreating towards his back room. He opened a drawer and drew out a glass box, inside of which were three eggs that seemed the same at first glance, but if you looked again you would see some slight differences. The first was black, with a navy pattern circling around it that resembled waves. The second was also black, but with red firebursts adorning it instead. The last remaining one was, again, black, but with snowflakes around it. The Professor removed all three from the box, placing them infront of Bryquaine. "As you can see, these eggs don't resemble those of any known Pokemon, so once yours hatches, I would appreciate it if you would come visit the Lab again and tell me what it is. This may prove to be an important piece of information." (You don't have to come back if you don't want, but if you do you'll get something nice. Not a Pokemon though, that'd be too many too soon.)
