The tackle unsteadied Deet, but the sentret came and left so quickly it was more disorienting than painful. She rose to her feet, and shook the dust out of her fur.
<Two opponents?> Deet looked at Rose with a large grin. <This will be a great first battle! C'Mon, Rose, you can really prove how good a trainer you are. I bet with your strategy we can win this!>
"Actually, Deet," Rose began, looking uncertain for a few seconds. She'd never done anything this complex in trainer's class. But a good gym leader never backed down. She'd take on all comers, and win! Yeah! Possitive thinking. "Yeah, we'll win this! I don't wanna capture either of them, so don't worry about going easy on the pair."
<Pfft,> Deet rolled her eyes.
"Alright, leer!" Rose grinned. She knew that with Deet's special ability her attack would go way up, but it was always good to start from a statistically strong position.

Bristle well, bristled her fur, she was glaring at the shinx. <No, only I shall be battling, my friend is not into this, he rather talk and ask questions.>
<That's not true,> Bark shouted in anger, <I too am a good battle.>
Bristle then laughed, <Then go fight the Shinx if I am defeated.> She said in a tone of voice that one could tell meant to be that she didn't believe Bark at all.

"Since we were gonna concentrate first on the loud mouth bristling fur ball, any way, I don't see a problem with that," Rose smirked. As one of her teachers had said: "If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to infuriate, and then hit when his guard is down."
"Tackle, Deet!"
The shinx rushed at the sentret, her fur standing out on end from the adrenaline coursing through her body. She had immediately felt a dislike for the sentret, as another female. Shinx were notorious for needing to be surrounded by pokemon of the opposite gender to keep them docile, and Bristle's aggressive manner made Deet's attack raise in response.

The Sentret was pushed back from the attack and launched a Quick Attack at the Shinx. She was not happy at this, she was as well getting worked up into a battle fury and wanted nothing more then to see the Pokemon run away.
((Bad thing about posted at the midnight hour, is... I just learned that Snetret do not learn Tackle. SO, you got a unusual Pokemon.))

((Beh, someone bred her like that. At least now I know she's at least level 7 since that's when sentret learn quick attack. Psypokes' Psydex is a pokemon RPers best friend.
I made a mistake, too. Shinx know leer, not growl. <glares> I'll just have to hope that I get lucky. So the battle score as far as stats go is: Deet: Attack + 3 stages as the rivalry special ability has made it 25% stronger than normal Bristle: Defense - 1 stage from the leer that was not a growl at the beginning of the battle))
The small body slammed into Deet's equally small body. Even with the hesitation the earlier growl had caused, Deet went sliding back in the grass, her claws causing long furrows in the dirt. The shinx remained crouched for a moment, her tail lashing.
Her yellow eyes focused on Bristle with a fierce glare, feeling her anger spike at getting pushed around by a little squirrel. Deet surged upright, and forward, pushing herself into a low tackle.

Bristle saw the attack coming and curled up in a Defense curl, but was still pushed back by the momentum. She right away jumped forward with a Scratch attack upon the noise of the Shinx since she had just attacked with a tackle, she knew she took damage from the tackle but she was happy for remembering the Defense Curl.
<Come on Sis, you can do it, you can win this.> Bark shouted in glee.

((Since you used two attacks in your last post may I do so in mine? ;D))
Deet yowled, jumping back a bit. The scratch on her soft nose seemed to multiply in damage as the cooled air hit the newly exposed skin. Yeesh, it stung.
Rose glared at the sentret, trying to keep her former advantage. "Back up and leer at the fuzzball, then continue to attack full force!"
Deet slid back, her fur sparkling a bit, and then leveled a leer at Bristle, beforetaking off again for another tackle.

((True, true, and my apologies about that, I was in a writing mood. What level is Deet by the way?)) The sentret shuddered at the Leer, and before She could retaliate or move, she was hit by the Tackle from Deet.
She growled, but not an attack growl and right away went for another Scratch attack.

((Five. She's just out of the lab))
The close quarters of the tackle gave Bristle the opening she needed to catch Deet on the haunch. The small cub yowled, and limped backward, her fur sparkling in defensive warning.
<Why isn't she getting tired?> the shinx complained to her trainer, panting slightly.
"She's got to be at least two levels higher than you, but you can do this, Deet," Rose said. "It'll be great endurance training. You got to minimize the impact of her attacks. When you tackle her, don't stop, just plow through so that her attacks will only land glancing blows."
<Right,> Deet huffed, setting her jaws grimly. She charged forward, fully aiming to take Rose's advice.

The Sentret was pushed back and now, she was breathing hard and fast. <That was a good attack, a little fast as well... but.... can you take this?> She asked charging forward with another Quick Attack, she was hoping that she wouldn't faint, that would be so very embarrassing to do in front of her younger brother. Especially since he was not a battler like the rest of their family was.

The quick attack caught Deet in her mid-drift and spun her around slightly. She groaned, and dug in her claws, trying to stay balanced. Okay that had really hurt. She was having trouble breathing, and the stars had yet to clear from her vision.
Rose bit her lip. "C'mon Deet, pull together. Take a deep breath."
The shinx took her trainer's advice, sucking in a few gulps of air, and breathing out slowly, letting the lights fade from her vision. She certainly wasn't going to back down from this puff ball. <I took it, squirrel girl. Let's see if I can dish it right back out!> she declared, running headlong at the sentret in a strong tackling position.

The Sentret was knocked back head over tail and she got up, shaking and not doing so good, she got ready for a final attack, <I am not done yet.> She growled, and then, she fell forward in a faint.
The brother right away jumped forward and began to struggle in trying to pull his sister back into the tall grass, <Come on, come on, mom said you couldn't be caught... come on wake up.> This was all said through a mouth full of fur.

((So, Deet defeated a level 7 pokemon Deet gained 2 levels Deet is now level 7))
Deet breathed out, feeling victorious. <That was briiiiil-liant!> she crowed. <I feel so much better! Watch me! I was all, grr, hah! And chasing the sentret, and knocking her down, and she knocked me back, but oh no, I wasn't taking any of that!>
"So, feel like trying some more battles, then?" Rose asked, smirking.
Deet turned to look at Bark, but her fluffy fur seemed to damp down. <Nah, it's okay, I'm not interested at the moment.>
"Hmm, I suppose I should heal you downstairs, in any case," Rosemary commented, thinking that her shinx's rivalry ability was a two edged sword. Deet probably couldn't attack Bark half as well as she had faced off against Bristle. That made it all the more urgent to get a second pokemon, and there had been that notice about the breeding center.
"C'mon then, we'll get into the elevator, and get you healed. Then a short walk to the breeding building, and we'll see about getting a magby."
<Why?!> Deet wanted to know, growling angrily as they got onto the elevator. <Aren't I good enough?!>
"You need company, and I need two pokemon to take on the gym leader, and finally I like magby. They have fire. And can punch! A nice little boy magby would be great."
<Oh, well if it's just a little boy,> Deet relented slightly, as they went down.
"Yup," after all, Rose had no intention of building a team where her shinx would be at constant odds with any female members. Therefore, no female pokemon could be caught, bred, or bought. It was that simple.
The doors dinged open, and Rose walked up to the desk. "May I have Deet healed, please?"

The same person looked up, he was reading what looked to be a instruction manual. He looked up. "Oh, hello again... okay, just hand the Pokeball over and I'll put heal Deet healed up in no time."
He looked at the machine, he hoped it was as easy as the Instruction Manual said it was.

Rosemary returned Deet, and handed over the pokeball. She leaned on the desk casually as the machine did its work. "Say," she asked, "do you know if you can request genders and stuff at the breeding center? Personality isn't a big deal, but my shinx's special ability might make things awkward if I get a female pokemon."

The young man only blinked at her after starting the machine, his face showed an expression of, 'I wasn't trained for this kind of question.'
"Uh, you might want to ask the breeding center first, I wouldn't know, they would know... today is my first day to be honest." He realized that he had admitted that out loud, he was going to say the last part in his mind.

"So I figured," Rose grinned. "But you've been doing all right. I expect most people try to get their pokemon from the breeding center before coming to the training room, but I wanted to give Deet a bit of a head start, and get used to using her before I got a second pokemon. Anyway, I'll be back, most likely, once I get the magby, so if you're still on shift I can find out the answer to any questions about the breeding building for you, if you like."

The tech blinked. "Thank you, that would be wonderful, Thank you again." He was smiling and looking pleased. "Your Pokemon will be healed when you get back." He said, he knew they were low on budget, but they had a piece of machinery that was outdated to being older then he was, so it would take a lot of time.

"Thanks," Rose smiled at him, and then jogged out of the glass doors. It took a while to get down the street, as she kept on having to ask for directions. The breeding building was in another important skyscraper, she knew, but there were many skyscrapers in Ruby City, and the door men told her that they were buildings for law firms, or banks, or hotels. However, finally, she did manage to locate the right building, and walked through the glass doors.
"Excuse me?" she walked up to the receptionist, "I'm looking to buy a magby. Where should I go?"

The clerk didn't even look up. "Second door to the left, it has a fire emblem on it." The clerk then returned to reading a Magazine on Pokemon, Grass types by the appearance.
