The pokemon center was large and well appointed, despite being one of the few buildings in Ruby City that was only two stories tall. There were a couple of other places in the city that healed hurt pokemon, but mainly these were inside other taller buildings and hard to find.
The nurse behind the building smiled on seeing Jason walk up. "Hi!" she shook out her strawberry blond hair, and waved happily. "Hi! Are you a new trainer? What can we do for you? Heal your pokemon? Right away!"
She practically grabbed the pokeballs from Jason, and took them over to the healing machine. They stayed there for several minutes while the lights flashed and the motor hummed, but she brought them back eventually. "There you go, you pokemon are all better! We hope to see you again!"

Jason rose an eyebrow as the nurse grabbed his Pokéballs without waiting for a response. Opening his mouth to speak, he was startled by the prompt return of his Pokémon. nodding, he released them from their confines. "Let's go." he remarked, pacing away from the center towards the gym.

The gym was located on the eighteenth floor of the Furuhashi. Once inside, a referee stood there, attending to all people who came in. When Jason enter, he quickly went though the motions of his welcome that he uses with all the other guest.
"Welcome, sir. Are you here to train with or study under our gym leader, or have you come here to face her in a match? Either way, I'm here to assist you." He gave a slight bow as he said the last part.

Jason looked at the man as he entered the room. "Well I was coming to face her in a match, but you've sparked my intrest. Tell me about this training or studying under her. What's it involve? How long does it last? Is there anything else I'd need to know?" he asked, bending over to scratch Defend's fur.

"If you are a trainer who prefers normal type pokemon you can join the under trainers in the gym," the referee replied, straightening his green tunic. It was made of wool, and while the gym was room temperature, the cloth was itchy. "They watch the official gym matches, review strategy from Ms. Carmen's previous tough battles, learn how to built a gym that serves their pokemon's strengths, and, this is most important, how to gauge the level of the opponent. The Tejan gyms have minimum levels which a gym leader tests at, but say a trainer with a couple of level 30 pokemon comes in. In this case Ms. Carmen will try to test them with a level 31 pokemon -- for example, miltank or tauros, to see if they have the potential to grow as a trainer. That's what being a gym leader is truly about, testing trainers, before they have to endure the tournament of the Airborne Arena.

Jason nodded. "Right. I'll just stick with going up against the leader in a match. She does have time for that, right?" he asked, picking Defend up in his arms. The small gray and black wolf-like Pokémon struggled in his arms as he continued to pat it. "Or would you rather I come back later?"

"Miss Diego always has time, its her job," the referee said, slightly offended that anyone would think that gym leaders had better things to do than their duties.
"I'll say," a calm voice said behind Jason. "Hi, I'm Carmen Diego, and you're challenging me for the Spectrum Badge, right?" the curly haired woman smiled softly. "Or are you just checking out the gym? I do have level 9 and 10 pokemon, so some kids fresh out of the lab prefer to come see what I have, and then train their pokemon up to level 8 or 9-ish."

Jason nodded as he looked from the referee to the leader. "That'd be wise. I shall watch. Come on guys." he remarked, pointing to the three. Grasstra nodded, using her vines to walk.
<<Come on crew, we're gunna watch a battle.>> she called to Strangler who she had released during Jason and the others' conversation. The small money-like Pokémon ruffled his white fur as he banged his fist on the floor, following after the Bellsprout.
"Lead the way," Jason asked the Diego calmly.

"Well, Monet and Cezanne are having a practice battle in one of the sparing rooms," Carmen led the way to a small room on the side of the gym and opened the door.
A shard of ice launched itself over their heads, and she stepped in unperturbed. A sentret and a zigzagoon stood at opposite ends of a room which was filled with sparkling light. On closer inspection the light appeared to be fine ice crystals that were filtering down through purple sparks of psychic energy.
"Hey guys, what happened?" Carmen asked. "I thought I left you battling, not hidden powering yourselves to death."
<We were,> the zigzagoon bit off shortly. <But Monet needed more practice, and so I've been shoving all of my energy into icy hardness for him to take care of. He can now stop the projectiles in the middle of the room if we start at the same time.>
"Oh he can?" Carmen smiled, "That'll show Arisa. Ahem. I'll have to paint that, congratulations. Anyway, folks, this is Jason, and he's going to be challenging us at some point. He's got a poochyena, mankey and a bellsprout. Do you think we're ready for that challenge?"
<But of course,> Monet, the sentret said assuredly, with the flick of his tail. <And even if we are not we'll train harder to give you a thorough test.>

Jason sscratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Names Jason and these three would be Defense, Grasstra, and Strangler respectively," he spoke softly, pointing to each Grasstra and Strangler in turn whilst setting Defense down. Grasstra shuffled awkwardly on her vines, eyes looking around timidly. Defense circled around Jason and the others, giving odd glances towards Monet and Cezanne.
<<These are my friends. You don't touch them,>> the small puplike Pokémon barked at the other two. <<I found them, my property,>> he finished.

Monet looked at Cezanne. She gave him a quick glare. <Don't even think about it, sentret.>
<I wouldn't dream of it, miss zigzagoon,> Monet replied, bowing politely, before turning back to the three pokemon. <Well, it was highly enjoyable to meet you. I wish you three the best, and perhaps we shall see one another in battle.>

Jason nodded at the two. "Thanks for having us. Let's go buddies,"he called to his team. "We're off to the Wild Pokémon Similation area to train for a bit," he remarked, waddling off with his team trailing after him.

In the Kobayashi Building, the receptionist at the desk had been replaced with a new one, who was reading the sports section, and twirling her blond hair around one finger. "Oh, I could have done totally better that that," she muttered, before looking up at Jason. "Hello. Just take the elevator up to the desired floor. Second floor sentret, third floor wurmple, fourth floor poochyena, fifth floor mankey, sixth floor starly and seventh floor gastly. You've already caught two pokemon here, I see, so you're only allowed to capture one more."

Jason aimed a nod at the clerk's way. "I'll be sure not to take anymore then. I'm just here to battle anyways," he remarked with a chuckle. Running his fingers through his hair, he turned to the trio behind him. "Which floor should we defeat first?" He cuckled at his laugh, watching the others out of the corner of his eyes.
<<Starly.>> Grasstra remarked softly.
<<Naw, naw, we want to fight Sentret. Those things are terriorty invaders.>> Defense huffed, his fur rising.
<<You guys are both dumb. It's obvious we should fight wurmple. Those things are easy killings.>> Strangeler remarked, banging his fist against Defense who growled in response.
"W-We'll do Sentret and Starly, okay? This way," he called, stumbling over to the staircase. Glancing upwards, he began to grude towards the second floor.

((I'm gonna assume you're going to the second floor first, from that last sentence. So that's one sentret, coming right up! )) As the three of them entered the second floor, an overenthusiastic young-ish sentret all but ran into them. He had a bit of an ADHD-type problem, though it was nowhere as severe as the actual dehabilitiating condition. He grinned, bouncing up and down on his strong tail. "<Are you gonna fight me?>" he chittered happily and excitedly. "<C'mon, c'mon! Send out your best pokemon! I can take 'em!>"

Jason shrugged his shoulders. "Grasstra fetch," he muttered. After a moment he winced as the small, blub like Pokémon cupped him over the head with her vines.
<<Not a Growlithe. Now pay attention,>> she responded in a joking manner, sending her vines towards the bouncing fluffy ball of fur. Bowing in appreciation, she waited to see what the Sentret would do.

The sentret tipped his head for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on. Then he had an "a-hah" moment, and exclaimed, "<so you DO wanna fight! Okay, okay, I can fight! Here I come!>"
And with that, he ran forward to tackle Grasstra.
((Wooow, I hope sentret learns tackle...I'm totally doing this without cross-checking a pokedex or anything. Because I'm lazy. And I have finals in two days. Sorry, Jason! ^_^;; ))

((I just double checked and they don't learn tackle.))
Grasstra stared at the fluffy Pokémon before moving slowly to the side. Pulling in some of her vines, she began to send them out towards the creature. <<Don't try to use tackle, you can't learni it,>> she muttered to herself.

((adjflakjdflkajsdflkajsdfkjasldfkjalkdfj *headdesk*))
The sentret paused, groaned, slammed his head against the wall, and then gave a little cough. "<Well, okay then...>"
Then he got slammed with the vines, which slammed him against the wall again. It was, in his opinion, not his day.
But he managed to pick himself up, though still a little woozy, and charge forward with a slightly different tactic - a speedy quick attack.

((Meh, could be worse.))
Gasstra was hit by the ball of fur, slamming into the floor. Wrapping her vines around him in a choking motion, she began to move her other vines in a whipping motion.
