William entered his Dormitory room.
He sighed as he sat down on the bed and looked outside at the setting sun, tomorrow, early, he was going on his first field trip, and he would be a step closer to being able to teach or start up a Pokemon Academy back home in Kanto... He loved teaching, but his parents had asked him to go on a journey, so he compromised, he and they agreed for him to come here. His parents he has a feeling that they hoped he got the training bug, and he wanted to learn as much as he could.
Jack was chasing a toy pokeball that he had found in the grounds, and meant he could keep Jack's Pokeball safe and not have it a play thing.
He then moved to the ground and began to roll the ball around, driving Jack nuts, he was smiling at this, and just enjoying a good time.

There was a knock on the door, and then Ari let herself in, holding her sentret forward.
"Hey William, look, I'm sorry about Grey Lady freaking out when Jacks tried to play tag with her, earlier. And she's here to appologize for dumping the tray of spaghetti on him while she was "escaping" from his rough housing during lunch," Arielle said, before glaring at her sentret. "Aren't you?!"
<Fine,> Grey sniffed arrogantly. <I suppose I must indeed apologize for reacting naturally to someone jumping on my head.>
"Hmph," Arielle was not satisfied in the least with the bad grace of her loaner, but it was a hundred times better than the "apology" Grey had suggested when they were alone in the girl's wing.

William only looked up from the floor and then his eyes widened as he skillfully pulled both trainer in, and shut the door, a moment later the Zigzagoon was rubbing his head looking cross eyed.
"Sorry," William said suddenly sheepishly, "I didn't want Jacks to run out into the hallway... imagine the chaos, worse then the lunch room most likely."
Jacks looked at Grey. <Okay, apology accepted, want to chase this neat ball William found?>
William laughed. "Looks like Jacks is taking it well, but then again, he did get a free meal." He laughed showing that he had no ill will.

<Absolutely not!> Grey glowered, as Arielle let her go. <The very idea of messing up my fur in such a way. How dare you?>
Ari sighed. "You know this random loaner selection isn't as ideal as it could be. But everyone else seems to be dealing with their starters much better than I am," she sighed. "I hope I'll catch something good tomorrow. I've already prepared two short outlines for paragraphs if I manage to capture either a zubat or a scarmory. Perhaps if there's nothing better I'll try for a krabby or corsola. But corsola are supposed to have the same kind of vain nature as this fur ball."
<I am a very beautiful fur ball, I'll have you know!>

William only laughed. "I want to see if my hypotheses is correct, about Buizel living at the base of where we are going... I really hope that happens." he was smiling.
Jacks was confused though. <But... playing is fun, don't you like to have fun?>
William only shook his head, "Just let it go." he picked up the small ball and toss it lightly away and Jacks raced after it at full speed.

"I've had a look at the list of pokemon available there, and buizel's not on it," Arielle replied. "Besides, buizel's a freshwater pokemon, they won't live by the sea. They prefer real rivers and streams. Floatzel's the sea-going version. They may appear in other places in Miteinjan, since floatzel are supposedly more at home in colder waters. Personally I find them a big nuisance. I come from Cianwood, and floatzel have a habit of eating fish, which rather cuts into what my family needs to survive."

William only blinked. "Ah... didn't know that.... I guess I should read more into stuff before creating my hypotheses?" He looked nervous as well, "I am sorry to hear that they they eat into your way of survival." He suddenly realized that he was running out of topics to ask, so he fell back upon one of the oldest time waster of a question.
"So, what books do you read?" he asked, but his voice showed he was really interested in finding out the answer. Because there might be something there they could talk about.

"Oh, you know, strategy guides and the like," Arielle said off hand. "I'm really into battling just on the whole. My old school had a battling club where we'd try to set up different situations from great battles, and see what we could have done differently. So usually I'd be doing a bit of research for that, history, and newspapers and the like."

"Oh? That sounds like fun... I wonder what the policy for clubs are here on the school grounds? I read a few strategy guides, but mainly to hold mental battles... I liked the learning about the attacks, but... I never really got too much into battling... now my sister on the other hand... she... I think she is in Sinnoh at the moment trying to compete there, she never stays put, but never really gets far either."

"I've been looking around, but the only school activities outside of classes seem to be in the gym, and those are just regular battles, and maybe a contest or two," Arielle sighed. "I mean, granted, it's a small school, and table top battling is a special sub-set of geek culture, so it wasn't likely that there would be a club, but the upper classmen seem to ignore the Level Ones as a matter of course. There's going to be a dance in a few weeks, and only Level Twos and above can attend. I asked one of the level twos in the cafeteria why, and she said it was because a lot of people transfer to other schools once they've passed level one, so there's no point getting to know anyone who might not be there next term."

Post by Ninetales on Apr 10, 2008 1:36:36 GMT -5
William looked a little strange, as if trying to mill over the idea of this school. "But... maybe the reason why they transfer is because they don't feel like they have friends? Maybe if there were more activities for level ones more would stay at the school." He spoke half serious, and half thought out loud.
"So... should we do something about this? Maybe form a Level one committee with a class president? or something similar? That way the committee could form activities? like a level one only dance? Or a Talent show?"

"A talent show?" Ari asked. "Well, that would be fun, but a Level One only dance? Have you seen our class? Of the boys only you and that arrogant Frenchie are the right age for dancing with. And between you, me, and this bed post, the arrogant Li Jing girl's the only one out of us who can dance, I'll bet. Dances aren't fun if it's only four people, and three of those four can't stand each other. ""Oh, you're from Cianwood, are you?"" Arielle mimicked Wendy's voice. ""You must like fighting types, then." You'd think her parents were killed by fighting types*. She's one of those people, you know, who take offense at every little thing," Arielle said, as if Elroy's tone of voice hadn't made her mock his accent during class only a few hours ago. "But I agree, there need to be more student activities that we can all take part in. I'd definitely like to start a Battle club, and what would you do, if you could get things going?" _________________________________ * So, were her parents killed by blacksmiths, or what?

William only looked around, "I don't know... but I think someone should be in charge of keeping the clubs running and keeping students in line... like, well some schools I have read had students in leadership positions, like Government... maybe we could do something like that... teach character to some of the students by having them in charge of activities, that sort of thing." HE looked at Jacks, "What do you think?" <Could we have a club where Pokemon can just run around and play? I rather not battle to be honest... a contest looks more fun.> William laughed, see we have three ideas already... I should write this down." And so he did. ________________________________ I am confused, please explain in PM

"Oh, battle clubs aren't for pokemon. It's more an intellectual exercise for humans," Arielle explained to Jacks, as Grey "hmmphed" slightly in the background. "You make the scenery of the battle ground. A lot of people buy specially made scenery, but I always made my own in the Art room, back in the Violet academy -- wait a moment, I'll get my box of stuff."
She sprinted from the room, her dark eyes sparkling, and came back a few minutes later with a fairly large hat box in her arms. Someone had scrawled all over it: Do not open! Grr! Arielle's box of all mighty gaming stuff! Cursed by pixies! and so on. She set it down on the floor and took off the lid to reveal carefully compartmentalized figurines.
"So, first, what you do," she explained excitedly, "is you take out your setting pieces. Say we're going to have a group battle in a forest. We'd use Will's dresser as the ground, and then take the trees," bundles of twigs tied together, and glued to flat stones for stands were taken carefully out of a compartment, and set up at random on the flat dresser top. "For simplicity's sake we'll say it's day time, and fair weather. And there you have the setting set up. Then you take out the players, say it's a group battle of grass types over some territory in the forest. I plant my army of oddish -- there are official figures, too, but I like making my own in clay. It's very relaxing. I have one plastic official oddish, though, so I usually use him as my leader," she took out five little oddish from another compartment, all but one made of white clay, and set them among the trees. "Then the opponent, that's you, Jacks, in this case, would set down his bellsprout army, and we'd create the stats for each group, and then, once we were approved by the moderator -- that would be the third party who controls the rules of the game, and creates the weather, or other unpredictable factors. Mods have total control over the events in the game. And they can change the scenerey to suit their liking, or add special characters, and of course, they create the scenarios. Anyway, once everything was set up, we'd start the battle. This is only a rough slap up, of course. Most of the games would be considerably more detailed, but you get the idea."

William looked rather interested in this kind of battling. "Hey Jacks, you think you might like this?"
The Zigzagoon only looked at the bottom dresser drawer, before William picked up the Pokemon so he could see the battlefield.
"Sounds interesting... are you sure that no Pokemon gets hurt?"
William only laughed. "Well, their pride might be hurt if they are leading the attack, but other then that... no, I think this is a great way of practicing for almost anything." He was smiling, this looked like a fun game.
"We should start this up as a school club or something? Maybe create a list of how to create a Pokemon from clay? Or maybe have the school give us a small budget to buy school loanable figurines for battles.... but this is going to be fun I can see... I think at least."
HE was wanting to start battling. "So... we create the states for the Pokemon? OR does the Mod do that?"

"The inventors of the game publish rule books every couple of years. They try to cover every possible situation, but no one has figured out how to make a good evasion possibility, for example. The version one depended entirely on dice throws, but people said that the random element was a little too ridiculous to be believed," Arielle lifted out all the carefully labeled trays and compartments, before exhibiting a glossy thick book. The cover declared it to be GURPS' Complete Psions and Dragosaurs Rulebook Version 4.
"Now, in version four, the mod plays a much bigger role. He or she has to record the scores, stats, and the adventure, while making certain that none of the players try to cheat. On the other hand, it's much more realistic. For example, say in this senario, I wait until it's twilight, and then I say that all my oddish pop out from their concealment underground in their attack turn. Then my Opponent's bellsprout are surrounded by a ring of oddish," she moved her five tokens to encircle the bellsprout.
"Now, it's a surprise attack, but because the oddish take time to get out of their burrows, the mod would say that you have a reaction turn. That is a turn where you can either choose moment, attack, or to spring a trap that you've thought up. But it has to be a quick reaction, the mod will time it, you get 90 seconds, and then I continue with the attack turn by unleashing petal dances of doom on you."

William looked at his Bellsprout and smiled. "Vine whip to try and get the grass heads of the Oddish together and cause maybe a weaker petal dance?" He was thinking this out, and he was enjoying this...
He however paled. "How many Pokemon do they use? Are there... any... mythical Pokemon?" The way he asked, he was worried about maybe a fan girl would appear at the question, gushing about some Legendary that no one really sees. He just really got irritated with people like that. There were enough good Pokemon that one could catch without it being all shiny or Mythical.
Jacks was looking at the two factions. "Why are they fighting? can't they get along?"

"It all depends on the figurines you have," Ari replied. "Although most games have rules against using them, since some people find the idea of limiting a legend's power by pulling it through a stat generator is blasphemous, and everyone else doesn't want to deal with having to face an opponent with an attack power that's higher than their entire collection. There's a "War of the Ancients" campaign that was put out a while ago, and of course with a couple of the more historical Kantoan and Johtoan campaigns the mod has got to play the birds if the defenders don't keep the tin tower from burning. There's only one battle that I know of where any legend is actually used by a player is the re-enactment of the Tournament battle in 1750 when Usake Torji had a moltres on his team. I have the figurine somewhere," Ari began to search among her compartments.
"What's fun about that battle is that Usake actually lost, as will most novices playing him. Morita Ukane had a team perfectly balanced to exploit Usake's weaknesses, since Usake favored power over strategy. You can win with his team, but only if you base your strategy around his raticate. Most players focus on the ledgendary as the hard hitting central member of the team, when really, it's best played as an annoyer, burning the opponents, and then whirl-winding them. The moltres looses to Morita's lanturn every time.
"Anyway, can't find it," Arielle sighed, before looking at Jacks, "and they fight because it's the objective of the game I've set up. There are several variants of the games that you can choose to do. There's the quest variant, which requires a lot more careful scenery prep by the mod, and has your player searching for something in the setting, and getting clues, or figuring out puzzles. This can either be played against the mod, in a team with someone else, or as a race against a friend. When it's a race against someone you get separate clues from the mod, but it all leads to the same place.
"Then there's the tournament variant, which involves taking teams from previous champion ships, or tournament battles, and using them to see if you can defeat the opponents strategy. I like this one the best, though it requires a lot of research into what style the trainer employed, and ways to get around it. Usually the person playing the trainer who was originally defeated is allowed to use any strategy they like, while the winner has to stick to cannon, or what styles and strategies were actually used in the original tournament.
"Here we have a demo of the group battle variant. It's more of a what-if situation, combining aspects of the quest, namely the more story-telling based objectives and motives, with tournament style battles.
"Finally, there are the campaigns, which involve massive efforts in fights over territory, or mythical-historical battles. That one probably won't interest Jacks much--,"
<And it doesn't interest me at all,> Grey yawned.

William was becoming more and more interested in this type of battling, he could see that it would be fun. "So, shall we start this club? I vote you to be the default Mod, unless you are battling, that is until one of us can learn the rules as well, is that okay with you? We should really do this."
Jack was looking at it as well, <I like the one where people go on quests or search for clues and events. Those sound fun.>

"Those take a lot of prep work," Arielle replied. "But they can be a lot of fun if the mod has done their job right. If we were to start a club, though, Will, where would our base of operations be? The dorms? And we should advertise. Are you any good at making posters?"
She grinned excitedly and danced backwards, before stretching her hands out to imitate the poster. "I can see it now. "Thursdays after class, come to the level one hallway to participate in a Quest. Pick up the rules at the door. One annoying sentret as prize to the winner --,""
<I resent that!> Grey shrieked, getting down from William's bed, and chittering. <I resent that entirely, you silly geek!>
