Acutally, Morath was carefully measured against Carra for size. When on the ground she reaches just under Carra's knee, which is realistic for something that's supposed to be about 2 feet tall.

Oh, new update, since I don't have a thread on Delmara for this. Another character sketch, this time of Luke, all scared that people are speaking to him, what should he do. As a side note: this guy's all leg, why was all that leginess wasted on a guy -- bah. Don't be so tall >.<

I never imagined him like that...but it's a good picture. I always imagined him as a bit more...pathetic-looking...or something. Actually, I think I just defaulted to a picture of Coson, since I kept staring at Coson in your banner...

Luke is pathetic, just not pathetic looking. The guy is about six feet tall (stupid male adolescent growth spurts), and he's shaking and shivering like a six year old. It's hard to picture him being the thin, gangly giant that he is, just cause he's always cringing and cowering, but he's a big boy, physically speaking. Also, the scan really killed his expression, and my trying to fix it in Illustrator killed it even more. He's supposed to be more terrified. It's that mop of hair getting in his way.

Ah. I should read descriptions, not be lazy, and actually make pictures in my head...

Well, I don't blame you for not reading his character description. I only go through re-reading Delmara's character profiles when I'm really bored, and have read all of the fun to read threads all ready.

I've got a semi odd picture of Ari. I was trying to play with foreshortening, and once I put the dress on her the pose she was in seemed to make the proportions of her legs all screwy. I'm still having difficulties cropping in Illustrator, as well, so I imported to Photoshop, which pixelates Illustrator's smooth flowing lines. Ah well, I shall keep experimenting. Ari is fun to draw on the computer if only for her hair. EDIT: Figured out how to crop on Illustrator, so here's the "revised" image. Still looks a little weird, though. Next time she'll be in a more standard position. Also, she looks closer to 27 than 16. Any ideas on how I can make her look her age?

Sweet! There's something weird about her eyes, but it's still great.
To make her look younger? She might seem younger without the long dress, and maybe putting the dress up higher would help. Maybe the back turned, and the hip make her look older. Just my thought.

But she wears long dresses (and will soon discover how cumbersome they are on field trips [insert evil "torture the character" grin]).
But yeah, pose not so great. I was hoping to make it more challenging and less -- um, "inviting." On the other hand, there are plenty of sixteen year olds who are a little loose with their ways, so it may not just be in the pose. Maybe if I made her face rounder, it would help.

I agree with your idea on making her face rounder, but I think that no matter what you do she's going to look a little mature for her age. Because of the whole long dress thing.
I haven't read her profile yet (I'm actually going to go read profiles for all the mini-regions in a sec, since I'm bored), I don't know if having her hair down is characteristic or not, but pulling it back in a ponytail or pigtails or something will defiantly make her look younger. Or maybe just adding barrettes or a headband. I dunno.
I just associate loose hair with nothing with adults for some reason. Nevermind that it's how I wear my hair-it's just my thinking, I guess.

But I like drawing Ari's hair like that! It's all medusa/snake-y. But it coud be fun to pull it back and play with the waves...
BTW, Pascal, I think the oddness of the eyes has something to do with the fact that I was trying to follow the typical manga rule that "larger eyes = younger characters" but my typical eyes are thin, narrow evil-villain eyes, and I had difficulty switching style to a cuter/younger look. I have trouble in all conscience stretching proportions to make them bigger than they're supposed to be for the face ^^; Also, I deleted her pupils by accident when I was messing around with the gradient to make the iris ^^;;
But yar -- ideas for a younger look:
- Different pose - Shorter skirt/be able to see her feet (I think one of the problems is that the crop, while conveniently disguising the fact that I can't draw feet, makes it look as though she's a lot taller than she is, since she's supposed to be shortish) - Peasant shirt/dress top should be higher up on her shoulders - Bigger eyes (nuuuuuu! Yar, I'll have to start copying Aoi Nanase's style...) - Rounder face - Play with hair styles, and try not to get carried away (always difficult for me when I <3 doing wavy hair on the compy so much. SNAKEY HAIR!)

Yeah...I'd say the clothing style is more adult, same with the face and the eyes. If anything, the eyes look the most adult of all of her...they should be more "cutesy", generally. If yas wants, I could try sketching her super quickly (BALLPOINT PENZZZZZ), just to give you a style idea? I usually draw too cutesy...-3-;;;;;;;; Also, maybe the hair could go in a ponytail or pigtails? Those are generally worn by younger women.

I have tried a ponytail/in a barette style and she looked even older. I think I'm drawing too heavily on ancient Grecian styles. The only problem is that Ari wears her hair loose most of the time. Maybe all of the literature I read is way too outdated, but to me older women pin their hair up, and girls keep it loose. So I'll try the hated pig tails after my new idea turns out a flop. EDIT: Got the "younger" picture finished. And I think she looks younger. My problem is that I hate her new eyes. Also, the basic body I had drawn for her looked better before I put the clothes on. Perhaps I should just stick to nudes and ignore clothes all together. But then I wouldn't ever dare show any of it off...

I do -- slowly -- deal with requests. As can be seen by Ruin's random: "I only have this Animartix avatar," which lead me to make three (technically only two) different avas for her. If you have anything you want me to attempt, I'll try it. Just give me a character's name, or a description, if you're after an OC, and a color scheme, and I'll probably make something. Or I'll tell you that I don't like the images I've found so far, do you have an image you particularly like? Along this note, here's a picture I made of Osprey that I was planning to put into an avatar, but the resize to 100 x 100 px doesn't look as good as the original (1000 x 1000, I did resize it to fit the proboards format, however ^^):
