Kevin followed the rest of the passengers off the small ferry onto a pier with creaky planks that didn't help to relax him at all. Once he reach the solid land of the cliffs, his body flooded with relief. Being on a boat was a new experience for him, but it was one that he wished not to experience again.
"So this is where I'll be starting at," he said to himself, looking around at the shacks and really tall trees. "Not much here I guess." He walked over to a makeshift sign that he spotted on one of the giant trees. The direction to the lab caught his eye first, but it was then followed by the breeding center arrow, along with the adoption center arrow.
"Have to check those out later," he instructed himself before heading towards where the sign said the lab would be. While walking, a sea breeze told him that bringing his windbreaker wouldn't have been a bad idea, but the sun seemed to disagree with it, instantly tending to his cooled arms and face. Giving the sun a small thanks, he reached the wooden lab which raised more questions for him than the answers it probably help solve.
Before knocking, he look at the list of Pokemon posted on the door, but his eyes got stuck on the wurmple. Tearing them off to check his assignment over again, he firmly knock on the door while trying to remember and jolt down tiny notes about the boat ride and his first minutes on this region.

(Number generator got you foretress, so pineco is added to your list of choices.)
Agatha Kauri, a dark-skinned woman just out of college, opened the door. Her brown eyes swiveled onto the boy, and she pulled her short black hair out of her eyes to get a better look. "Hello there," she began, a tired smile on her face. "Are you here to get a starter?"
From behind her, the sunkern she had been moving peeked out. She'd been put in a pot with soil, since she liked to rest in it, and Kauri was about to move her to a sort-of-sunny spot when Kevin knocked. In the background, three geodude were munching on their rocky breakfast, mumbling to themselves and each other in their grunting language.

( Spamish post >_< )
"Yeah," he said from the ground, trying to finish writing his sentence. Rising up, he dusted himself off and gave her a sheepish grin. "I'll need one to help me finish this report my school assigned onto me. And if I could inquire, do you still have the wurmple on this list?"

Professor Kauri yawned. "Yup. He's a bit of a handful...here. Come see."
She stepped around the sunkern's pot, and shoved the geodude out of the way rather unceremoniously. She then grabbed a sort of irritated-looking bug out from behind a cardboard box, and placed him on the floor before Kevin.
The caterpillar eyed Kevin with a sense of disgust, trying to see if he did anything interesting. His eyes fell on the report, and raised one "eyebrow" in curiosity. This bug, a sour-faced intellectual, reared up on his hind four legs (he had the legs of a myriapod rather than an insect - something that always confused him greatly), trying to get a better view of the paper.
Then he remembered he mentioned a report. A report...for school. He hated humans, rarely liked other Pokemon, but he could respect an intelligent student writing a report.
He chirruped a comment, glaring at Kauri. She held her hands up, palms facing him, in defense. "Hey, I get it. I don't know much 'bout this guy. I don't know the IQs of all the kids who walk in here!" The young woman sighed, scratching her black-hair-covered head. Her look towards Kevin was apologetic. "Hey...he only wants to go with you if you're smart. Say something smartish, or something, and he'll probably be willing."
The wurmple just glared at him, trying to appear challenging.
Kauri eyed him, and sidled over to Kevin. "His favorite subject is life science and biology," she whispered as inconspicuously as possible. When the wurmple glared and chided her, she shrugged. "Just tellin' him 'bout the nincada down the road." She grinned. "And that one...that one nincada..."
The look the wurmple gave her was even dirtier. Kauri winked a Kevin, a wry half-smile on her face. Would he, a guy, figure it out? Or was it only obvious to a girl?

What she was hinting at must have been only obvious to a girl... or someone who was paying more attention to her words than him. The only word that really registered in his mind was 'nincada.' With that word spoken, a small spark was released inside Kev's head.
"They have nincada over here," he asked with growing eager."Where can I find one? I know almost everything that has been discovered about them, like the fact that when it evolves, its shell becomes a Pokemon too, but no one really knows where the other spirit comes from."
His excitement dissipated when he remember the wurmple was looking at him, waiting for some logical talk. He sheepishly grinned at it, knowing random outburst of things wouldn't quite qualify as smartness. "Sorry about that. I tend to get weird when I hear a Pokemon with sharp claws are around. Hmm... I know some things about life science, human health, and biology, but I have a hard time recalling what I learned. Cells, tissue, and organs are just the tip of what I know, like... natural selection and niches. I wonder if Wurmple have a niche that is different than that of a caterpie or weedle..."

The wurmple stared at Kevin with an air of only slight disgust. He began to chatter about the topic, but Kauri just shrugged. "He says he thinks they do. Anyway, do you want him? Oh, and you can find all the nincada you want at the breeder's house just down the street - or, rather, just down the path. And if you really like bugs, I think there's still a kakuna in the shelter."
The starter bug just glared at her.

His eyes roll up to the ceiling of the shack, unknowingly searching for holes in it. Having a Pokemon that knows a lot would help him get around the region easier, and well, it was the only one here that had a chance of being a poison type.
With his eyes back on the bug, he shifted them to the professor. "I forget things too often, and I know he knows more and has a better memory than me, so yes. Also, I can look at the nincada and kakuna as well."
Saying that reminded him about the report that was in his grasp. With a quick movement, he was now sitting on the floor, jolting down notes at a furious pace, trying hard to write everything down before he could forget exactly what happen here.

Before the stubborn bug could say anything, Kauri zapped him back into a Pokeball, and handed it over to the boy. She then grabbed a very unshiny handheld computer off the desk - it was anything but impressive with its drab silver-gray color...it looked almost like it was about to rust over and fall apart.
"Here's your wurmple, and here's your brand new Miteinjan Pokedex. It's half in garbled Japanese, half in garbled English, so have fun. You can probably get it to give you information on your Pokemon if you plug in their Pokeball, and it usually works okay as an account card for money, and stuff. You should have 5000 pyen in your account right now." She paused, then poked the side. "You can get chips to put in - they make the programming better, and can add features like Pokemon translating and stuff."
She shrugged. "That's it for here. There's other stuff to do around the town, though, but not here. So you can go, or whatever."

Wurmple Gender: male Level: 5 Nickname: you choose Ability: Shield Dust: cannot be hit by additional effects of oncoming attacks Attacks: Tackle, String Shot, Poison Sting Personality: very gruff and insulting. He doesn't usually like people - except for a certian female nincada he really likes, and enjoys insulting them more than trying to be friends. However, he does like to learn, and does have respect for people he deems intelligent. Deep down, he's probably okay.

"Right... I guessing this thing won't fall apart on me," he said, looking a the device with interest. "Then I'll be going now. See you later, Profess."
Heading out of the lab, he made straight towards the breeding center. Or at least where the arrow on the sign said it was at. This place had little identification to where things are, but he decide the bigger the shack, the more important. Using that logic, he found the breeding center with it's offer about the nincada post on the door.
After knocking on the door, he release Arc the wurmple from his pokeball, who just glared in the general direction of the lab before figure out where he was. His glare then turned on Kevin, causing him to back slightly away from him. "I need another Pokemon. No offense, but bugs aren't the strongest of things."

"Then why'd ya come here if you aren't interested in bugs?" the door had opened behind Kevin, and the grumpy proprietor stood on the steps, holding a broom defensively. He gave Kevin a glare to match Arcs. A few nincada peeked out from behind his legs. One waved her claws at Arc, before being prodded by her friend's feelers. "We only breed bugs here."

"I didn't say I wasn't interested in bug," he said quickly, backing away from the store owner more than what he did with Arc. "It's quite the opposite. I'm fascinated by all Pokemon, including bugs, but nincada have a unique evolution that I definitely want to see up close."
Arc just stared at his trainer, trying to make himself believe this wasn't happening. Out of all the people in the world he could have been with; Ones that could of had twice as much knowledge as this trainer. But he was the first and only one that admitted a bug was smarter than himself. Plus, it gave him something else to look at so he wouldn't blush.

"Oh really?" the breeder looked at Ian suspiciously. He guessed the boy might not be a bad sort. No one who liked nincada could be a bad sort. And he wasn't an element crazy trainer, or he wouldn't have picked a wurple to start with, instead heading for that Kuari girl's shellder or numel.
He stepped aside, "come in then, if you've a mind. Mind you, my nincada are amazing, so you should be prepared to pay for them."

"Right. Good thing I came prepared," he said, walking into kinda large shack that had nincada breeder printed all over it. Mentally thanking the professor for the starter money, he looked around at the supplies and things along the walls. He also notice that his broom wasn't just for protection and was actually used often.
The Wurmple gave them a look of slight disgust: the man for his boastery and his trainer because... too many reason to list. But not wanting to be left outside to be surprized attack by a bird, he followed them inside, blushing every time he glanced at the nincada.

The six nincada in the shed looked at Arc and Kevin. Their leafy wings rustled quietly in the gloom, as the breeder tried to kep the large shed as close to a nincada's natural habitat as he could, and still keep it comfortable for himself. There was a slight rustling as one nincada moved out of the way, and the breeder stepped briskly up to the counter.
"Well, do you have a preference as to gender or personality?" he inquired in such a brusque manner that the nincada nearest Arc laughed quietly.

"Well... I actually think I know the one I want," he said with an unsure tone. He looked at Arc, who only leer back at him. He seemed mighty uncomfortable being put on the spot, but it did help Kevin a little. At least he knew the bug had a heart and not a vortex where his thoughts on the world sat on.
"Yeah, I know the one. It's that one by my buggy friend over there. It seems to be a good match up for him." At these words, his leer turn back into a glare. He was pretty sure Arc could use poison sting, but he really didn't want to find out right now.
"OK. So that wasn't the best of words... better put, it'll keep my bug sane while we travel." He didn't even want to see the look he was giving him now.

"Well then," the man nodded curtly, stumping out from behind the counter again to pick up the young female bug that had been making amused faces at Arc. "All right. Here you are. That will be 2000 pyen if you want her."

Kevin nearly froze when he heard the price. He never paid that much on one thing his entire life, but he never did like to shop with his mother. Taking out the poor excuse for a pokedex, he gave to the man, hoping he knew how to subtract the cost out of the device.
"Does she have a pokeball already?" He really didn't want to use his own right now unless it lowered the cost of the purchase. He would need all the spheres he could collect right now to make a semi-decent team to travel with.

"Yep, she comes with her own pokeball," the breeder reassured the kid. "that's included in her price, you see. That and she's got great stats, you know," he pushed the pokedex into a little slot in the cash register, which beeped, and spit out a receipt. "Sign here," the middle aged man pointed at the line, before rummaging around, and returning the nincada to her pokeball.

"OK," he said, pulling out a pen from his pocket, something he wouldn't have brought if it wasn't for his evil school assignment. With a quick motion of his hand, the name Kevin Owens was inscribed onto the paper.
"Guess that's it," he said, more to himself then anyone else. He put the pen back into his left pocket and took out Arc's pokeball which was residing in his right. "Arc, return." With his command, the pokeball absorb the Wurmple into itself. The worm itself seem quite thankful that he could escape his trainer's ways for the moment being.
